Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?

Turns out all the T@rfs go to Hogwarts. No wonder they want to burn us as witches.

OvaHere · 19/12/2019 16:51

Brian Cox, we knew about I think, and Tim Minchin...

Tim Minchin should speak up. I find it almost impossible, given his vocal and controversial stances on religion and compelled belief, to think that he wouldn't recognise this woke authoritarianism for what it is.

In much of his stand up you could replace 'religious belief' with 'gender ideology' and nobody would know the difference.

53rdWay · 19/12/2019 16:52

And there are SO many woke dimwits on there who don't have the faintest idea what they're actually sticking up for

I genuinely think that for a lot of people doing this, if you asked them to show you just how 'sex is a real thing' means deliberately wishing to harm trans people, they would not be able to do that. They would tell you that trans people are a threatened minority and that JKR is horrible, but they would not be able to demonstrate how you logically get from "live and love whoever you like but sex is still a real thing" to "I wish misery and pain upon trans people".

Many of them will paper over that logic gap by saying to themselves "well I don't quite get it, but all these good people I trust are talking about it as if it's obvious so it must be me who's missing something." But that only ever holds up for so long.

TiredofthisBS · 19/12/2019 16:52

In all seriousness I think that JK was like us, incredibly angry over Maya's judgement and could no longer hold her tongue.

A little note to our monitors - remember kids, Twitter isn't real life. The general election proved that.

MurderOfGoths · 19/12/2019 16:57

I just cannot get my head round how any of them have read JK's tweet and somehow translated it as "all trans people should die". Can they even hear themselves?!

Findumdum1 · 19/12/2019 16:58

I just read all the replies and was also astounded at how dumb all the people screaming terf at her were. Really struggling to understand or come up with any kind of argument or logic and no real understanding of scientific principles. I do wonder whether declining standards in education are responsible for all this TRA and woke nonsense.

Good for JK

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 19/12/2019 16:59

Of course, John Boyne was another one who started off on the side of trans people, doing his best to listen to them and represent them accurately and sensitively in his writing, and he just got monstered for his pains.

Brian Cox has kept his mouth shut when we know damn well he believes in science. I didn't know Tim Minchin was on our side though.

NoSquirrels · 19/12/2019 17:00

I'm one of the many who feels the need to stay publicly silent on this because although I wouldn't be sacked, my working life would be made intolerable if my actual views came to light. I imagine there's legions of me out there!

This. Much like JK when a ‘like’ of mine of a very mild, uncontroversial (it seemed to me, anyway) tweet obviously showed up on followers timelines and I realised I’d been unfollowed by a lot of previously happy-to-engage folk. Would be career suicide to actually tweet about it, and in fact I cannot even like JKR’s tweet now. I wouldn’t be sacked but it would be deeply problematic.

I’d actually really love a conversation IRL about it with some of these people but Twitter is a bear pit and impossible to do it on there.

Justhadathought · 19/12/2019 17:03

two fellas are teetering on the edge of coming out as GC soon

That this issue is so profoundly 'verboten' as a topic for debate or discussion - and people have to 'come out' as being at all critical of trans ideology - does show that this the TRA movement the most 'untouchable' and undemocratic movement ever.......Even the most vocal people are afraid to speak up. How did it come to this? Crazy!

GrinitchSpinach · 19/12/2019 17:03

LUMOS indeed!

Dangerfloof · 19/12/2019 17:04

45 minutes ago I posted she had 37k likes, it's up to 46.9 now. It's good to see so many sane people think the same.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 19/12/2019 17:05

Fucking hell is this real?!!!
We’ve waited for so long thank you for speaking up JK StarStarStar

Helmetbymidnight · 19/12/2019 17:05

I didn't know Tim Minchin was on our side though

ive only got aidan comerford on that- and have i said he makes me feel really queasy? the last time i felt like this about someone was my friends ex who beat her up then went to live with v young women in the philippines.

Dangerfloof · 19/12/2019 17:05

47k likes. Its proper on fire. Thank you jk thank you.

MarDhea · 19/12/2019 17:07

Yup. Look at the ratios on JK's tweet, though - 47.4k likes versus 10.2k replies.

For a so-called controversial opinion, it seems that most people agree with it. What. A. Surprise. Grin

Wondersense · 19/12/2019 17:07

@TiredofthisBS Indeed! XD

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 19/12/2019 17:08

Turns out all the T@rfs go to Hogwarts. No wonder they want to burn us as witches.

It’s suddenly become very clear this is the case! Grin

EverardDigby · 19/12/2019 17:10

This would seem to be the problematic part of defining a belief from the Grainger case:

"(v) It must be worthy of respect in a democratic society, be not incompatible with human dignity and not conflict with the fundamental rights of others"

Surely by definition if someone is using the EqA there is some sort of conflict, and there's presumably no way for Maya to say that the fundamental right she has to women only space is being denied, it's only looking at the rights of transpeople. The criteria seem flawed to me.

GeordieTerf · 19/12/2019 17:10

I think that the likes will skyrocket when North America wakes up.

53rdWay · 19/12/2019 17:11

I am enjoying (in a surreal way) how the tweets disagreeing with her are split about 50/50 between "of course sex is real, that's not what this is about and you know it you bigot!" and "how dare you say sex is real, bigot!"

I have bad news for the people in the first group, soon to be condemned as TERFs and outcast with the rest of us.

EverardDigby · 19/12/2019 17:11

I meant to post that on the other thread! It was in response to reading a blog posted on this one though!

morningtoncrescent62 · 19/12/2019 17:12

Trans activists in meltdown after years of staring into the Mirror of Erised only to be told by its creator that it's fiction.

I've no idea whether JK was waiting for the perfect moment to tweet, or got so angry she just had to say something. Whatever, her timing couldn't have been better. Just when we were all wondering how to pick ourselves up again (and if it's this bad for us, I can't begin to think what it's like for Maya) JK with her millions of twitter followers comes riding to the rescue and does it with style and compassion.

MurderOfGoths · 19/12/2019 17:13

I'm so tired of the people lying about what was said, just seen someone claim JK told GNC kids they don't deserve safety.
