Very much so. I just thought it was some weird slang for transphobe from the way it was being thrown around.

I'm a feminist, but I certainly wouldn't say I'm radical – I don't engage in feminist debates or fight for feminist causes or anything like that (sorry good feminists!). But I still know that you can't change your sex.

I have not read the replies but it beggars belief, from what has been posted on this thread, that JKR’s tweet has brought forth such a storm of rage and hate

So many of them appear to just need a woman, any woman, all women, to rant at and vilify. And this is such a good excuse. Because it's 'legitimate'.

The fact that there is a woman who, up until now, they thought they had well and truly under the thumb, is utterly infuriating for them.

The fact that she cannot be intimidated, due to her highly independent, and therefore powerful, status, makes it even worse.

And everyone can see it.

I've been around here long enough that I know that the above is deemed 'transphobic' but it's times like this when I actually think about it again and realise how fucking batshit this all is.

These words are transphobic and will be deemed by some as hate speech. Let that sink in for a second.

She never said anything of the sort. Of course she doesn't wish anyone harm. SHE JUST KNOWS SEX IS REAL.

Knowing sex is real being seen as 'harm' is just about the crux of the whole madness.

I'm one of the many who feels the need to stay publicly silent on this because although I wouldn't be sacked, my working life would be made intolerable if my actual views came to light. I imagine there's legions of me out there!

Also perhaps the election has highlighted that Twitter is not real life. "Winning" twitter means nothing when you are just talking to a self-selected group, mostly young and urban. I am in a household of 5 including 3 teens, one of whom is a Freshman at college. None of us have a twitter account. J. K. Rowling has a lot of power as a household name with integrity who can talk to people over the heads of the likes of Twitter. Also horrible attacks and slurs on her in juvenile, hysterical forms just increases empathy for her.

I live in the USA. Every time this kind of behavior has crossed over from the internet to real life it has backfired. From 2015-2018 there were a number of campus "uprisings" with crowds of undergraduates screeching at professors, refusing to let them speak and sometimes imprisoning them in classrooms or forcing then off campus. When this was broadcast to the nation their immature behavior and hysterics lost them support.

Evergreen College in Washington State was one of the very worst examples. As soon as I saw the footage I thought "I would never send one of my 3 teens to that college". Sure enough enrollment plunged. They are now struggling to overcome their image of letting the lunatics run the asylum.
