Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I've just been called a TERF...

On Facebook.

Local Facebook page, a man posts a discussion about Prolife protesters outside abortion clinics. A picture of himself with a sign saying 'screw these guys', pointing to the Prolifers.

He then proceeds to lecture women thinking about counter protesting, saying sometimes it makes the situation worse (yet he posts a photo of himself clearly antagonising the prolifers at a previous protest Hmm )

I point out to people thinking about counter protesting, with a particular group who are mentioned, that the prochoice group hold certain views about gender that conflict with my own.
That they believe the word woman should not be used on placards as 'people of all genders use abortion services'
Obviously it's just women that use abortion services.

So a sign stating 'A woman's womb is no ones business but her own' would not be allowed. It would have to say 'A person's womb is no ones business but their own'

Anyway. I was blocked by the OP.

This below was the reason.

Funnily enough, before he blocked me I received around a DOZEN likes from Women agreeing with what I said. They also believe that the word woman is Not dirty and should be a use able word in relation to abortion services.

Yet this man think he knows better than them and me.

He blocked me again before I could reply.

Argh.

I've just been called a TERF...

On a brighter note I've just received my order from Standing With Women. I shall sport my Woman definition tshirt and hopefully bump into the bearded wanker.

Blue hair with intent 🤣

AleFailTrail · 28/09/2019 12:11

I do think PERF is something we should use and own-Penis Exclusionary Radical Feminists. As in I’m not a TERF, I’m a PERF and that means I’m not an -ist, I equally exclude anyone with a penis

Tyrotoxicity · 28/09/2019 12:22

Have any of them started dying their beards blue yet? It's surely only a matter of time.

PhonicTheHedgehog · 28/09/2019 12:31

Oh, I identify as a PERF. I’ve found my identity after all these years and YOU. ALL. NEED.TO.KNOW

I’ve even got a slogan.

PERF:ect

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 28/09/2019 12:32

Gather round, Woke Youth, and allow me to tell you a tale designed to warn young women and girls to beware of males who are not quite what they seem, or what they want you to think they are. The name of this classic tale? Bluebeard.

PhonicTheHedgehog · 28/09/2019 12:33

It even works as a pronoun.

Phonic went to the shops and PERF bought some gin.

OhCharlieYouPrick · 28/09/2019 12:37

PERF:ect

I LOVE IT.

Can someone tell Posie about it and get tshirts made Grin

Willingly letting it into the wild :D Ever since being questioned about my identity as a car fixing, ale drinking adult human female I’ve been looking for my true identity.

Pota2 · 28/09/2019 12:55

Just makes you realise that this is all about language isn’t it? Nothing has actually changed. There are still two groups of people. One of them produces eggs, the other sperm. The one producing eggs is the only group that can get pregnant and have any need for abortion services. We used to call this group ‘women’. However, we have now apparently taken leave of our senses and can’t think of an appropriate word for this group of the kind that produces eggs. But the reality hasn’t changed at all. The two groups still exist. It’s just that we’re tying ourselves in knots pretending that we don’t know what they are.

PhonicTheHedgehog · 28/09/2019 12:59

All hail AleFailTrail

Ereshkigal · 28/09/2019 13:00

Exactly this.

AloneLonelyLoner · 28/09/2019 13:39

How many (wo)men who have gotten pregnant would actually care about this? Most women who identify as men (and for transparency I've only met one), wouldn't care less if she had to register as female to get an abortion. She'd be sensible enough to recognise it was her uterus and womanness that got her pregnant in the first place.

Gingerkittykat · 28/09/2019 13:45

I'm not sure if that is true about a trans man being happy to accept the biological reality of womanhood to have an abortion. Look at Freddie in Seahorse crossing out female and women on his pregnancy forms and replacing them with man.

Pota2 · 28/09/2019 13:49

Yeah, pretty sure that most of them would care. If you didn’t, you probably wouldn’t insist to the world that you were a man in the first place.

But all the time people are talking at cross purposes. To them, man and woman are social constructs that basically mean conforming to stereotypes. To us, they are just the biological distinction between male and female humans.

BreakWindandFire · 28/09/2019 15:12

PERF is perfect. It can also stand for "Pimp exclusionary radical feminist' when we are called SWERFs.

AleFailTrail · 28/09/2019 15:29

Also written down it’s not hard to turn a T into a P ;)

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 28/09/2019 15:34

Men Exclusionary Human? Meh...

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/09/2019 15:46

I haven’t yet been called a TERF, but I have been blocked by Dr McKinnon, on Twitter, which I consider to be a badge of honour.

RoyalCorgi · 28/09/2019 16:19

When people say stuff like "You get trans people killed", do you think they really believe it? Can they point to any trans people who have been killed as a result of women saying that they think the word "women" is more appropriate than "people" when describing abortion services?

I suppose I'm just wondering if it's really possible to be that stupid, or whether this guy knows perfectly well he's talking rubbish but has an agenda behind it.

skql · 28/09/2019 16:26

don' be afraid called terf.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 28/09/2019 16:26

“How?” Repeat over to each reply - like a small child. The answers are rarely that - usually meme slogans or tweet bites.

Very little critical thinking occurs in these arguments and ‘because I said so, shut up!’ Is hardly debate society material.

HuckfromScandal · 28/09/2019 16:26

Best thread ever
God I love you lot

TERF and proud ❤️

WelshMoth · 28/09/2019 18:04

I've been called a Terf numerous times and my response varies from...

"Yawn"
"No one cares"
"Meh"
"Bothered"
"What does that even mean anymore?"
"Is that your best comeback?"

I mean, really. Terf is the verbal equivalent of a toddler tantrum with fingers in ears.

No time for it.
