Thoughtful insights into how some women get drawn into the wrong side of the debate.

I didnt say they should use a different board, Cohle. I suggested they could, in case they felt they wouldn't get fair debate here.

Twist, twist, twist.

Spartacus - when somebody said they're fighting for liberation of the patriarchy, why is Decopmposing's reply such an out there one that can't be answered, and just gets a give your head a wobble response?
I thought it was an interesting question.
There have been threads about women shouldn't get their nails done as they can't possibly want to do it for themselves.
Some calls for getting your nails done banned on the thread if I remember correctly.
So as decomposing says, where does liberation from the patriarchy stop?
If everything we do is apparently for the patriarchy and we can't think for ourselves, we don't know any better?
Why should women be denied choice or opinions of their own?

DecomposingComposers · 31/07/2019 23:05

This is usually about "sex work" isn't it?

No, not at all. Thinking only of recent threads - where women who said they wore make up, had nails done, shaved their legs were roundly criticised. They were also told that they were doing it not for their own pleasure but basically because they were brainwashed. To me, that seemed incredibly patronising - to tell other women that they don't know their own minds.

And now there's a thread describing a version of feminism that judges any woman married to a man or who has children.

RosesAndRaindrops · 31/07/2019 23:07

Perhaps Roses, Decomposing et al would like to start their own thread (doesn't need to even be on this board) to discuss their own thoughts on feminism and relevant and pertinent topics

No, you're alright thanks. You really do want us all to piss off and go away don't you lol, how the heck this isn't a form of silencing I don't know Grin

You only have to say that you wouldn't mind sharing a bathroom with a trans woman on here to be declared a woman hating psychopath. But apparently calling other women a bitch is not misogynistic.

I don't buy it.

DecomposingComposers · 31/07/2019 23:08

It is certainly unpleasant, abusive, offensive...but I'm not sure if it is misogynistic, since my understanding is that for it to be misogynistic she would have had to have said those things about the other women because she is a woman

I've certainly seen the argument that "bitch" is a misogynistic term because it is only used against women.

Datun · 31/07/2019 23:08

Oh lor. Now leg shaving derail !

Doyoumind · 31/07/2019 23:08

Again, Roses and Decompsing you are focusing on an extreme view, not even discussed on this thread ffs. We aren't a hive mind. We all have different views. There is no single form of feminism. We don't have to answer for other people.

You're the one who repeatedly wanted people to define feminism.
Now we're discussing it, it's a derail?
You couldn't make this shit up lol

PetrolBastard · 31/07/2019 23:09

Did you know you can learn things at the same time as having shellac on your nails?

NeurotrashWarrior · 31/07/2019 23:10

Radical means root.

The fundamental nature of something.

Which is important in modern daily life for all Women by centring women and women's rights in law.

In some respects marriage has certain elements that give protection to a woman in the event of a marriage breakdown. But that's by the by.

All the other stuff is distracting frippery tbh. If you want to follow the theory through to not shaving etc that's fine, don't marry a man. But many women do and so Women’s rights are enshrined in law.,

(Theory through eg don't shave and don't marry a man, that's fine)

Datun · 31/07/2019 23:11

I wanted you to define feminism rose. Which you did.

PetrolBastard · 31/07/2019 23:11

I bet you haven't.

LangCleg · 31/07/2019 23:11

I want Bespin to come back so that we can talk about interesting history from the 1970s.

????

Doyoumind · 31/07/2019 23:13

Roses it's not silencing at all. It was suggested as a platform for you to discuss what you feel is important and express your views rather than derailing this thread with topics that aren't relevant.

And do you know what? You actually know that.

that's you, that is.

NeurotrashWarrior · 31/07/2019 23:14

They were also told that they were doing it not for their own pleasure but basically because they were brainwashed.

But it's part of the pink tax innit

Doyoumind · 31/07/2019 23:14

Sorry, that's you -> _,
