Not with Corbyn in charge. He doesn't strike me as the sharpest knife in the drawer.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 29/06/2019 19:23

I do feel sorry for Rohit and his pals. They can't really say someone has 'not been sincere' in their identification as LGBT, without admitting the whole premise of Self ID is irreparably flawed. Look forward to seeing the ideological knots tied to get out of this logical fallacy, though.

Weezol · 30/06/2019 00:40

I do not feel sorry for Rohit and his pals. Not in the slightest.

Actions have consequences. Welcome to the real world kid.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 30/06/2019 01:40

Tweet from Women Make Glasgow about Rohit:

Guess what this guy who hates women is up to.

He's protesting in Glasgow against the strip clubs being put under tighter regulation.

There you go ladies, you don't deserve to be your own political representations, but he'll defend to the hilt your chance to strip for strangers.

He's protesting in Glasgow against the strip clubs being put under tighter regulation

How unsurprising.

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 30/06/2019 02:00

Afraid you may be waiting a while for OJ to put his two pence worth in, saw him jollying it up at the green peace stage at Glastonbury a couple of hours ago.

I really wish I'd seen this before I saw him, or maybe not ... it took a lot of persuasion on DH's part for me not to go accuse of him of being a misogynistic wokeprick.

Goosefoot · 30/06/2019 02:22

What's the point of a woman's officer?I was a member of the Labour Party but I never got involved with the local party.
I don't really see what the point is. If it's to promote the female point of view can't female members do that at constituency meetings?

I thought the idea was that they were having a really hard time getting more women involved in politics, particularly standing for election, and it was thought that this kind of role might be a way of bringing women into getting ready for those kinds of roles. And that there were some special permissions needed to do this as they were restricting the post by sex. My understanding was that it seemed to be having some success.
I'm not so sure if the other roles they are talking about are meant to do that too, or more be a point of contact for certain communities or making sure they stay aware of the needs of those groups, or what.

Im not entirely convinced that having all kinds of special positions like this is actually a good idea in the end. I do think the idea of providing an entry for a group that seemed difficult to get involved is a good one. But a bunch of positions that give an extra voice for every currently on trend identity group seems like a power struggle in the making.

LassOfFyvie · 30/06/2019 02:34

Agree with your last paragraph.

Can the Labour Party get any more ridiculous? Not just this but all the nonsense with Chris Williamson and the allegations in The Times about the control the 4Ms have over Corbyn. Answer- almost certainly.

Weezol · 30/06/2019 15:52

I thought they'd reached peak ridiculous in 2017 when The Owen Jones Momentum Roadshow turned up in the town where the Labour Party was formed to tell the residents they were doing Labour all wrong.

I really didn't forsee how truly insane things would become.

LassOfFyvie · 30/06/2019 16:43

It goes without saying that given the long history of the involvement of left wing Jewish people, both middle- class intellectuals and working class, with the Labour Movement and the Labour Party, alienating the Jewish vote was a peak moment.

The peak of that particular summit was the anti- semitic attacks on Luciana Berger - the great- niece of Manny Shinwell.

I expect many of the current idiots in the Labour Party don't even know who he was.

Popchyk · 11/07/2019 08:54

New development on this.

Chickens coming home to roost yet again in Labour.

White person takes BAME role in Labour. A row has erupted after a white woman was chosen over an Asian lady to represent BAME females at a constituency Labour Party (CLP).

twitter.com/afzalmunna/status/1149049473399775233

This guy saying how unfair it is.

Wizbetisanizbet · 11/07/2019 09:04

He's getting his arse handed to him. You reap what you sow.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 11/07/2019 09:04

He seems to have been fine with Madigan taking a women’s post. He’s on the receiving end of a very pleasing Twitter back lash

Any party that thinks gender identity is a vote winner needs to have a serious rethink

Popchyk · 11/07/2019 09:07

Here's another beardy dude bro getting his arse handed to him.

twitter.com/kangavallo/status/1149000533056872449

He seems entirely unable to explain his position.

"Because it’s a fake question asked by trolls in bad faith to waist my time. Go and read a book if you want answers. Oh and you’re blocked".

Wizbetisanizbet · 11/07/2019 09:19

They can't explain their position because it has no substance and nothing to back it up. They know they are wrong. The house of cards is beginning to tumble.

Popchyk · 11/07/2019 09:23

It's the same Constituency Labour Party, right? Who had the straight guy taking the LGBT role?

Newham in East London.

Clearly one faction is using self-ID in order to manouevre themselves into a powerful position in that CLP. Undermining all the structures put in place to help historically underrepresented groups to have a voice - and instead using those structures to bolster the most powerful group to the detriment of the least powerful groups.

Who'd have thought that something like this could ever happen?

Much as we might think that this is karma (and it is), it is a worrying sign for those people who are systematically being deprived of representation. The self-ID policy across the board will hit poor, BAME, disabled, immigrants, and yes, women, the hardest.

But of course Labour has no care for that.

LangCleg · 11/07/2019 09:25

The replies warm my heart. Those threads wouldn't have looked like that 18 months ago.

The conversation has moved along so fast and so far and all those with their terfblockers have been entirely left out of it.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 11/07/2019 09:27

It’s really noticeable that Michael Fox (who he? When I googled I just got distracted by pics of the lovely Michael J Fox) doesn’t auto block people with masculine sounding Twitter handles. Feminine sounding ones get blocked

And he makes himself look unhinged and like a really crap politician

ScrimshawTheSecond · 11/07/2019 10:17

This is what onlookers call 'the left eating itself', isn't it? One could almost suspect that the whole identity politics issue was invented as a trojan horse ...

Gingernaut · 11/07/2019 10:25

As an Irish-English woman, I was wondering if Irish qualified as BAME.

On paper, it does. In practice, I've sat in meetings where I'm the only white face and there are some fairly dirty looks in my direction.

This woman definitely has a thick skin and some brass neck.

Up the RA! Kidding

ZebrasAreBras · 11/07/2019 10:46

I'm just basking in the Schadenfreude here Grin

I have very limited sympathy - these are the dudebros who called women cunts when we complained about Madigan & co.

They can fuck off - they are hoist by their own petard.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 11/07/2019 10:49

still don't know whether to laugh or cry about the whole self-ID debacle

cry I think

War is peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength
Men are women

ZebrasAreBras · 11/07/2019 10:51

Oh, and the labour twats who ganged up on labour women like Jennifer James and Venice? Got them expelled from the party - the infamous "spreadsheet" of wrong-thinkers?

One of their number was a disabled woman, who was had a Labour Disability Officer role.

They'll be coming for you next, love. People will identify as disabled will take your roles, and your voice. And you can't say you weren't warned.

"First they came for the women, and you all did nothing" - in fact, you did worse than nothing - you demonised and slandered women, abused and threatened women, and then contributed in the effort to have them expelled.

NonnyMouse1337 · 11/07/2019 10:56

I love how self-id is being shown for the utter shite that it is.

RoyalCorgi · 11/07/2019 10:57

He's getting his arse handed to him. You reap what you sow.

Very satisfying it is too. I don't think I can begin to describe the depths of my contempt for these men who think it's fine for men to take women's places, but start whining if a straight person takes a gay person's place, or a white person takes a BAMe person's place. Karma's a bitch, isn't she?
