Yes in that interview with sharron Davies she has people have stopped her in the street to say thank you since she spoke out.

Popchyk · 13/03/2019 12:02

From reading the minutes of the enquiry, it is very clear that those other MPs had no clue about transgenderism or any of its issues. Few of them asked any questions. The committee was set up for the trans lobby to wheel out the sob stories.

The trans lobby led them right up the garden path.

Just as a small note on the Transgender Enquiry thing.

Anna Lee was a MTF transgender person giving oral evidence in the enquiry in September 2015.

Cat Smith MP was part of that committee and was there for Anna Lee's evidence.

She subsequently employed Anna Lee less than a year later as a Parliamentary Assistant in July 2016.

Didn't realise that connection.

OvaHere · 13/03/2019 12:02

This was a well deserved pasting. MM utterly morally bankrupt.

nauticant · 13/03/2019 12:04

Jess Phillips was on that committee?

It won't be the first time Phillips has been lukewarm in standing up for women:

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 13/03/2019 12:07

Told what to say, what to do and what to think.

A big hand to the people leading us!

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 13/03/2019 12:14

nice to see Sophie Walker getting a pasting for that fucking awful webchat she did here

where she explained that the unfathomable process of becoming a woman means we can't have any sex based protections

I think she's come a long way since then, but she's still got a lot of fucking ground to make up

here's the webchat if anyone's interested (back when politicians actually talked to us - looking at you Penny)

Cismyfatarse1 · 13/03/2019 12:25

Is Anna Lee a pun?

Is her original name Lee as well and is Anna a change of first name? Or what?

Trousering · 13/03/2019 12:26

Let's not forget Maria Miller's private members bill in 2016 to make Gender Identity a protected characteristic in the Equality Act. This was one of the committee recommendations they wanted rushing through without consultation. Jess Phillips supported this. This was being done on the quiet and was only stopped by the general election.

MagicMix · 13/03/2019 12:27

Interesting, though how people are now scrambling to get on the 'right side of history' isn't it ?

Very. Rather gratifying, too, although ultimately not much comfort as so much damage has already been done and not all of it is easily reversible or reversible at all.

I wonder when/if we'll be hearing from Owen 'right side of history' Jones...

nauticant · 13/03/2019 12:28

On the positive side, is this the start of the blame game amongst our betters? A short time ago they were fighting like rats in a sack to appear more-woke-than-thou but this look like a growing "I was away at the time, someone else was responsible".

LangCleg · 13/03/2019 12:38

On the positive side, is this the start of the blame game amongst our betters?

Among some of them, yes. We'll have to wait a while before panic sets in within Labour and Lib Dems though.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 13/03/2019 13:03

I get that. Male transpeople have labelled themselves as the most vulnerable people in society and their demand that women and girls protect them must be seen as an easy solution for many.

But Anna Lee? The whole committee saw Anna Lee and thought vulnerable women who women and girls will not be uncomfortable with?

We always knew you were wrong Maria, and that it was crazy for the government to prioritise changing the GRA. The problem is, a lot of women have suffered because of this, and you can never undo the colossal damage you caused.

This was not my recommendation-I think you are confusing me with the Minister who did make this announcement-it was the recommendation of Government @WomenEqualities

The Government should focus on ALL discrimination - not just against trans people.

Agree. Please look at the work of the @Commonswomequ to see the recommendations to Govt to stop discrimination of all types-particularly discrimination women face at work and in public places-tackling discrimination of all types helps everyone who faces discrimination

You should admit that you did not understand this was an issue of competing rights; refused to hear from feminist groups but did hear evidence from any trans activists who wanted to address you; and your recommendations were a wish-list drawn up by them. THIS IS NOT DEMOCRACY.

Look at @Commonswomequ to read 2015 Trans Rpt-it includes all evidence received from every group. Women’s groups not excluded. Personally I met @womensaid @RefugeCharity @RapeCrisis & others to discuss recommendations @jessphillips advised on implications for Refuges

adultFemaleElf · 13/03/2019 13:18

Maria Teflon Miller

We see you.

nauticant · 13/03/2019 13:26

She seems rather busy on twitter trying to shrug off responsibility. I wonder if there's something specific going on behind the scenes.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 13/03/2019 13:27

yes, I'm having a little fantasy that this sudden action is in some way linked to the fascinating and informative answers we're going to get from Penny Mordaunt

Penny......Penny......? We're going to get some answers right?

Needmoresleep · 13/03/2019 13:30

Perhaps she should offer lunch to David TC Davies MP, who was the only one who both got it, and who was prepared to stand up and say so. He is in a good position to explain how vicious and pervasive TRA influence is, including within the Civil Service and the Tory party.

First step...get the Government Procurement Office to take Stonewall off any list of preferred suppliers until there has been a chance to review whether there have been sufficient Chinese Walls between Stonewall's lobbying and advice/training functions.

DoctoressPlague · 13/03/2019 13:30

I'm reading through the government publications again. (I browsed through them in October just before the consultation deadline, but I was in such a state of shock that I didn't grasp quite how ludicrous this whole exercise has been!)
It's not clear at all what measures were taken to ensure that the evidence wasn't influenced by fetishistic cross-dressers. And before anyone starts going on about women wearing men's t-shirts, I'm talking about cross-dressing as a PARAPHILIA, i.e. sexual arousal from dressing 'as a woman'. Given that one of the characteristics of cross-dressing as a paraphilia is involvement of unwilling persons, I haven't seen much to suggest that any steps were taken to ensure that this group were excluded from the inquiry.
If they didn't do anything to ensure that those with sexual motives were excluded, they might as well call it the Fetishists' Charter.

EweSurname · 13/03/2019 13:30

She's responded to Guiliana Hmm

nauticant · 13/03/2019 13:33

And before anyone starts going on about women wearing men's t-shirts

Ha. Yes, that particular derail has been very popular over the past week.

MillytantForceit · 13/03/2019 13:35

Maria Miller was minister for Women and Equalities from 4 Spe 2012 to 9 April 2014 under the Coalition Govt.

From 19 June 2015, she has been chair of the Women and Equalities Select Committee. This is not the govt but a ctee of parliament that holds the relevant department to account.

Needmoresleep · 13/03/2019 13:36

Unbelievable!

No idea at all.

Surely she has someone in her office who is capable of following the key headlines on such a divisive issue. Even Richard Littlejohn in the Mail wrote a strong article supporting Linda Bellos and her right to free speech.

Since when did people like Guiliana have the ear of prominent politicians whilst many women and women's groups struggle to be heard.

Popchyk · 13/03/2019 13:37

Retweeting Giuliana Kendal.

Christ.

Can 2019 get any more insane?
