Without MaryZ to fly the flag this is going unnoticed on Mumsnet.

Graham Linehan was invited by RTE to take part in a panel on Trans issues. There are now petitions to have him removed.

Motherforkinshirtballs yes re RI. Was tempted to comment on her 'only trans people can comment' tweet earlier.. v disappointed. I hoped JOC might have had pause for thought after my tweet, naive I know, as I'll bet she's GC herself in her rearing of her dc, just from comments she's made..

Knicknackpaddyflak · 22/01/2019 22:33

This is going to be the issue really. The average person with no idea (lucky them) about all this will see accusations of 'transphobia' and 'erasing' and 'denying existence' and be bewildered at the melodrama based on what they've seen.

Even if you do understand what is meant by 'right to exist' etc in terms of someone's identity in their head only existing if externally validated by all, the massive majority of people aren't going to find that a sensible, rational or reasonable demand either.

Clue: it isn't.

BettyDuMonde · 22/01/2019 22:34

Thanks for the live reports - fingers crossed it shows up on YouTube shortly.

mikado1 · 22/01/2019 22:37

Ok. I've commented on RI's retweet earlier re 'No debate'. Unfortunately I had to tweet the trans organisation also, which I'd rather not have, but let's see. Just a garden variety comment on her daughters in changing rooms. (Sounds dodgier than it is!)

Is Marian Keyes "problwmatic"

Rubidium · 22/01/2019 22:44

Now up on RTE Player:

ForeverFaithless · 22/01/2019 22:46

Sarah Phillips with her head firmly in the sand re testosterone and " I'm sure these people get psychological counselling when they go for surgery abroad, just like people who go to get cosmetic surgery".

Not!!!

pachyderm · 22/01/2019 22:47

So disappointed in Ailbhe Smyth. Expected nothing from any of the other approval-seeking Irish media numpties mentioned. Amnesty were a lost cause anyway, with their pro-prostitution shilling.

I think Middle Ireland are paying attention though and are peaktransing all over the gaffGrin

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 22/01/2019 22:51

pachyderm It must be Twitter algorithm or something, but when I check the hashtag it’s just woke-bros expressing sympathy to trans people for having to suffer through the programme and offering “solidarity”.

Any “wtf?” stuff I did see was frankly a bit transphobic, so I’m hoping you saw evidence of normal people having their eyes opened!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 22/01/2019 22:54

7days, not sure if Marian is problematic, I just think she's so woke she insomniac (not sure who I stole that from - saw it earlier and loved it!) and wouldn't expect her and her twee tweets to be anything other than unthinkingly supportive. As a woman who has openly battled addiction and mental heath problems, it's sad she hasn't understood the impact on vulnerable women's spaces.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 22/01/2019 22:55

Forever - yes! Couldn't believe the faux naivete about the plastic surgery abroad.

ForeverFaithless · 22/01/2019 22:56

Oh also Sarah Phillips' attitude that we're different over here, all that mad stuff happening over in the UK won't be going on over here....

Deluded, humans are the same the world over, good and bad.

mikado1 · 22/01/2019 22:57

RemindMeToMoveTheElf · 22/01/2019 23:31

Echoing pachyderm, I came on to say joe disappointed I was to read Ailbhe Smyth on Twitter:
A woman introduced on #primetime as a feminist who then proceeds to dismiss and denigrate transwomen - that’s definitely NOT my kind of feminism, ever.

Because that’s not what happened. I’m too cowardly to reply on Twitter.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 22/01/2019 23:33

RemindMeToMoveTheElf - you don’t have to contradict her, just ask her what was said?

TransposersArePosers · 23/01/2019 07:10

I'm not on twitter, but thanks for sharing that tweet mikado1

FlyingOink · 23/01/2019 07:45

I see there's a demo going on outside the RTE studios
The man quoted is a transman, pic attached is his Twitter pic. Seems to be mates with all the usual suspects.

Gender recognition is a right, and should not be up for debate! Denying people legal recognition of their self-determined gender violates their human rights.
Amnesty are so full of shit. You can't self-determine anything else can you? I can't decide I'm 21 and rich, and expect to be treated as such, because I am neither.

Crock of shit.

pachyderm · 23/01/2019 08:07

I had an exchange with Marian once where I politely and patiently explained the issues around self-id. She ignored all of my points. Good point about her history of addiction and depression and how it should make her aware of vulnerable women in shelters, hospitals etc. But she's part of the luvvie-ocracy in Ireland and couldn't afford to break ranks, it'd be on a par with saying you vote for Renua.Confused

WeShouldOpenABar · 23/01/2019 08:13

This was actually covered on newstalk breakfast but not well. Dara was on he said we shouldn't bring predators into the debate at all, so no debate but then said we should debate everything as gender has changed so much in thirty years.
They took no texts all the while reading out loads that came in on the very important students going to early houses issue Hmm

teawamutu · 23/01/2019 08:26

Marian Keyes had been annoying the shit out of me for a while - so bloody twee - but kept following cos I liked her books. Cba now.

Annasgirl · 23/01/2019 08:51

Oh that’s disappointing re Ailbhe Smyth. As we said on an earlier thread it was so sad after the 8th win to find most of the people we worked on the campaign with were not GC feminists. Is it that they are afraid to say it or is it that they really believe TWAW?

OrchidInTheSun · 23/01/2019 09:02

I've seen people saying that GC feminists didn't support Repeal the 8th - that we're all in cahoots with the church (and funded by US fundamentalists)

pachyderm · 23/01/2019 09:05

@Orchidinthesun also we're "British" as it's totally impossible that an Irish feminist could be gender critical!

Their arrogance and narcissism will trip them up.
