Without MaryZ to fly the flag this is going unnoticed on Mumsnet.

Graham Linehan was invited by RTE to take part in a panel on Trans issues. There are now petitions to have him removed.

Here's hoping pachyderm!

merrymouse · 23/01/2019 09:17

Is it that they are afraid to say it or is it that they really believe TWAW?

At some point in the future the penny might drop - when it becomes apparent that discrimination against non-binary people who produce ova is perfectly legal. How can it be sexism when sex doesn't exist?

2rebecca · 23/01/2019 09:22

What about all the Catholic's in Ireland? Surely the Pope hasn't said God made a mistake with some people's chromosomes? Or are they classed as "the religious right " so their opinions can be ignored? Irish politicians sound very out of step with Irish people.

MadamBatty · 23/01/2019 09:25

Didn’t the pope say that you can’t be born I. The wrong body, god doesn’t make mistakes.

Bluestitch · 23/01/2019 09:25

Who is Aidan Comerford? Seeing him laying into GL alot. He's also started on Tim Minchin now for daring to like a GC tweet.

Thingybob · 23/01/2019 09:31

Bluestitch

I think he's an Irish author who wrote about having an autistic child

Bluestitch · 23/01/2019 09:35

Thanks, so not trans then? Or a woman? He's very critical of GL not being qualified to talk on this issue but I've seen him very happy to tell women what's what.

Thingybob · 23/01/2019 09:38

There's been a thread about him on here before.

Bluestitch · 23/01/2019 09:39

Thanks, I'll have a look.

GCSocScientist · 23/01/2019 09:48

Oh my god, the abuse Glinner is getting on twitter is disgusting. Whatever, about disagreeing with him..they are bloody baying for his blood.
Since when was the Irish left full so full of semi-literate trots..ffs, I used to pride myself on my Irish education.

HumberElla · 23/01/2019 09:51

The thing is there are lots of women who might be seen as ‘qualified’ (ie skin in the game) to talk, but we all know what happens to them when they do. They lose their jobs, threatened with disciplinary, visited by the police, their family doxxed or followed home in the dark and their doors pissed on. Some of these things have happened to Glinner too of course but he has used his platform to talk where others would be risking everything.

RosaPalma · 23/01/2019 09:54

I honestly feel so lost at the moment and terrified to stick my head above the parapet and it shouldn't feel this way. Over the past few days my What'sApp groups and Twitter and Facebook feeds are full of the change campaign against Glinner's apoearance. I have just avoided engaging but feel that I am conspicuous by my absence. I take comfort from the fact that from one on one conversations there are more GC women in Ireland than we realise. I just wish I had the courage but it would be detrimental to my career at the moment.

I do think Prime Time was good and balanced and raised the valid concerns many of us share. I think I might try and avois Twitter today for the sake of my mental health.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 23/01/2019 10:02

Yeah, Aidan Comerford is a complete dudebro. He has a daughter with special needs, but happy to tell all us wimmin how we're wimmining wrong. Margaret E Ward seemed like an eminently sensible journalist too, but she's liking and retweeting all the sound bites.

GCSocScientist · 23/01/2019 10:05

I hear you Rosa, I think I may need to step away from Twitter too today.

I have also not had the courage to stick my head above the parapet either, the best I have done is to like the points of others on Twitter.. feel gagged and bound by the hate out there on the topic....

I wont forget being silenced and vilified for wanting single sex spaces and for wanting to protect my children from the homophobia and drug dependency of the trans-movement.

ludog · 23/01/2019 10:16

Not a mention of PT on either rollercoaster or heymammy today. I think people are afraid to go there. There was a few very heated discussions a while ago so it feels like no-one wants to poke the hornets nest again.

Popchyk · 23/01/2019 10:22

Is heymammy like an Irish version of Mumsnet?

If so, I approve wholeheartedly.

The TRA frothers are raging because Glinner gave a good account of himself and viewers actually saw it. The frothers had no control of Glinner, RTE or the viewers who watched it.

The event went ahead despite the frothers instructing people that it simply wasn't allowed. So no wonder they are apoplectic with rage.

GCSocScientist · 23/01/2019 10:30

Thanks Popchyk, that's a useful (and I think correct) recasting of the situation.

If you follow Today FM or the IT on Facebook, they both had articles reviewing the show.

Both comment sections were full of normal people saying they watched the show, agreed with a lot of what GL said and asking what exactly was supposed to be controversial.

Heartening.

Bluestitch · 23/01/2019 11:30

It's on YouTube now.

LadyGregorysToothbrush · 23/01/2019 11:31

Here’s a link for the programme on YouTube:

Just been watching, really interesting and respectful debate about a proposed change in the law affecting children. The hysteria is ridiculous, and shows up how desperate TRAs are to silence discussion because they know that sensible ordinary people who haven't been aware of all these issues won't agree with them. Seeing alot of comments now on twitter in response to 'no debate' saying 'actually when you are discussing the lives of children there is absolutely a debate to be had'. I wonder how many extra viewers the show got thanks to all the dramatics.

Bluestitch · 23/01/2019 11:36

Also very pleased that Graham mentioned Rachel McKinnon and Hannah Mousey, and that pics were shown. I still believe sport will be the issue that peaks the most people.

merrymouse · 23/01/2019 11:45

In Ireland "Gender identity legislation has been enforced without incident for three years"

but also according to the Irish Prison Service "A person is to be accommodated in prison according to their birth gender and not their acquired gender".

How can anyone read those two statements and not see that the situation in Ireland and the UK is not the same, even now???

Bluestitch · 23/01/2019 11:51

Interesting point from the doctor too who said that adults are having surgery abroad without any medical or psychological assessment based on them having a GRC from self IDing, and concerns that this could happen for under 18s if they are allowed to self ID too. I don't understand why so many trans activists are against medical assessment. Is it because they wouldn't meet the criteria?
