Well, the white feathers are appropriate for the little coward.

R0wantrees · 27/10/2018 17:43

It will be interesting to see what Peter Tatchell has to say.... eventually.

Freespeecher · 27/10/2018 17:44

His wings are like a shield of steel.

Sarahconnor1 · 27/10/2018 17:50

I wonder if tatchell knew at the time that he was taking Julie's place after she had been no platformed?

Not that it matters, he has known for a couple of days now and has been silent.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 27/10/2018 18:04

Fuck off, Xavier and Vijay. And take Peter Tatchell and Wee Woke Owen with you.

Freespeecher · 27/10/2018 18:20

I'm surprised at Tatchell as he's been very good on free speech in other controversial areas (Asher's being but one example).

Could it be as simple as him not knowing his invite was due to Bindel being uninvited or did he approve of it?

IdaBWells · 27/10/2018 19:06

When reading Jonathan Best’s article on Medium and reading all the paper trail of this farce, I see that the press release that went out from “Index on Censorship” explaining they were pulling out due to how Julie was treated has at the bottom how ALL forms of speech no matter how heineous should be heard except if it is “inciting violence”.

And this may be the clue as to the absolute hysteria of trans activists when they come out with this guff that they are dying in the streets and attacked everywhere they go. They know they don’t have a leg to stand on and they have to block the public and their ability to think in a common sense way regarding these issues, so non-platforming, lack of free speech and nodebate is their only answer, claiming Julie is “inciting violence”.

Their opponents are always those scary women. Activists, professors, scientists, mothers.

If they could express themselves freely you know they would suppress us viciously and violently so they are projecting those desires onto us pretending WE are they aggressors.

Popchyk · 27/10/2018 20:02

Jonathan Best's article is brilliant.

A story told very simply - Goldstein skewered by his own words.

SmallButFierce · 27/10/2018 20:03

Betty my interpretation was that Roundhouse had cancelled on support if the TRAs, not something they should be applauded for unless I’ve totallt misinterpreted their statement.

Nofedora · 27/10/2018 20:16

At least Julie won't have to sit through "I am a Woman and I have a penis". Every cloud etc

Juells · 27/10/2018 20:22

And take Peter Tatchell and Wee Woke Owen with you.

Gay men are really making it clear how little they care about women, and especially lesbians.

Popchyk · 27/10/2018 20:25

Jonathan Best is a gay man.

He is terrific.

But yes, outnumbered at the moment.

ChattyLion · 28/10/2018 01:05

I’m always very suspicious of nepotism and people who claim to be carrying on the work of their fathers..(rarely if ever said of mothers)

This is comedy gold though:
This week two participants kindly, generously and without prejudice brought to my attention their concerns over the inclusion of Bindel on the line-up at Roundhouse. Grin

It’s still not too late to cite the examples of the violence that Julie B has apparently called for..? Or, are there actually not any?

I’m pointing this out kindly, generously and without prejudice. Grin

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 28/10/2018 07:13

two participants kindly, generously and without prejudice

The author forgot to add that they were stunning and brave.

KatVonGulag · 28/10/2018 08:14

Is it wrong that all this makes me want to rock gently in a corner muttering "madness"?

Although I might have to have a maniacal moment of hysterical laughter at the wings and the lady peen poem.

R0wantrees · 28/10/2018 08:23

Sunday Times today, 'Activists thwart work on gender law reforms
Academics exploring the legalities of changing sexual identityare being harassed and threatened with violence'

concludes:
"Activists have tried to block an event that [Rosa] Freedman is organising on her campus tomorrow on the “legal implications of reforming the Gender Recognition Act” at which the feminist Julie Bindel is scheduled to speak. Bindel has been no-platformed by some student unions.

A Reading University spokesman insisted the event would go ahead and said the university would try to ensure “healthy and respectful debate”.

He added: “We respect the right of our trans staff and students to self-identify their gender and we have a track record of support for LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender] staff and students.”

Just catching up on all this.

What a lot of male voices denying Julie Bindel a voice. Jeremy Goldstein, Vijay Patel, Xavier de Souza...

And Jeremy Goldstein is pathetic. Fancy having tne arrogance to devise an event like that and then cave into a quivering heap tne mknute someone says anything uncomfortable to HIM. Saying he has disabled his account for fear of his mental health, when he has aligned himself with people who have hounded others denounced as transphobic anyone who attempts debate, closed down women’s meetings with terror threats, doxxed individuals, reported them to their employers for merely holding a gender critical opinion.... What a hypocrite.

R0wantrees · 28/10/2018 08:46

Reece Lyons, Peter Tatchell..?

MsTSwift · 28/10/2018 08:47

The whole thing reads like a comedy sketch. It’s pythonesque

Badmoonsarising · 28/10/2018 08:54

Yip, all i see is a shitload of men telling a woman to fucking shut up bitch.

I had redpect for Tatchell (at one point) but he just seems loke a creep, especially concerning women. His latest support for Rachel McKinnon just confirms what i already thought.

Just sticking this here. For no reason particular.

You couldn't make this up - Julie Bindle no platformed at @truth2powercafe
Popchyk · 28/10/2018 09:11

I don't know if Peter Tatchell actually knew if Julie had been no-platformed when he agreed to speak.

To be honest, I can't really imagine Jeremy Goldstein bringing that up to Tatchell beforehand.

Because Goldstein is a weasel.

Juells · 28/10/2018 09:20

What really struck me about the longer email Goldstein sent to JB is the expectation that, as a woman, she should feel sorry for the dreadful situation he found himself in.

A lot of the hatred directed towards GC women seems to be motivated by the fact that they're women, and should be looking after and helping and protected men, and instead they're not being nice. As if the men involved have a huge sense of entitlement where women are concerned, and are truly truly angry that GC women are not doing 'woman' properly. Men feeling cheated.

Pepvixen · 28/10/2018 09:24

Lots of people were tagging Peter Tatchell in tweets about that article asking whether he knew.

No response, but he did post about the death of a transwoman and blame it on people with concerns about the GRA.

He doesn't give a shit about women or Julie being no-platformed.

Popchyk · 28/10/2018 10:11

"What really struck me about the longer email Goldstein sent to JB is the expectation that, as a woman, she should feel sorry for the dreadful situation he found himself in".

And then when Julie simply said no, quite politely, he went into a male rage and accused her of inciting violence.

Very telling.
