Just seen on the BBC Wales news that Helen Webberley has been found guilty of providing an unregistered online medical clinic. She'll be sentenced next month.

Presumably, her professional indemnity insurance wouldn't cover her for illegal medical work?

I'd imagine not. I really feel for the children and parents involved with this individual - at least some of them must be doubting their decisions now

Popchyk · 05/10/2018 20:11

Webberley writes reports to the Passport Office in order for people to get a new passport in the sex that they are not. She charges for this service of course.

I'm guessing that the Passport Office just take her word for it.

That really needs to be investigated.

RedToothBrush · 05/10/2018 20:13

Will this open the floodgates on Webberley being sued by patients/their parents, now or in the future? Presumably, her professional indemnity insurance wouldn't cover her for illegal medical work?

The trouble is they are of the mindset that Webberley is heroic. Because they've been sucked into the narrative of persecution. That's not going to change because of this.

You can't break a cult like that.

Somerville · 05/10/2018 20:17

Can't change the cult in the short term, no. But longer term, some kids brought up with it will come to their senses, and leave it. Unfortunately by that point some of them might have irrevocable damage from Webberley's prescriptions. Sad Angry
And when they sue, she'll run out of money fast, and most of them won't get a penny, if I'm correct that her insurer will deny coverage based on her fraud.

WanderinWomb · 05/10/2018 20:24

It's telling that Alison Motet has handed over reins of her public profile, Graham Linehan protected his, Jonny Best is getting death threats, Posie Parker children were doxxed. . . . .

yet Helen Webberly is found guilty of practising medicine illegally and is still been all over BBC, still tweeting, looking for votes, claiming her patients will die without her and regularly pumps out teen suicide tweets. Adrian Harrop is still going off like the unstoppable tweet machine. Mermaids are invited all over despite being named as having undue influence on parent and social workers.

Where do these fuckers get the gall?
Ego? Narcissism? All the positive strokes from confused kids? Money? God complex?

The lack of humility is shocking.

This is worth a read.

gendergp.co.uk/queries/

From Gender GPs own website. The information has been on there for ages.

Are you being investigated by the GMC?
"I have had numerous complaints to the GMC about my transgender service.
A complaint from Alec Rook questioning whether I was qualified to provide gender care. This was fully investigated and no concerns were found on my fitness to practice in this area.
A letter from Stuart Lorimer, consultant psychiatrist at Charing Cross and GenderCare private clinic regarding my practice with numerous comments and concerns. The GMC decided that the complaint did not need investigating.
Another letter from Stuart Lorimer with further concerns. The GMC did not feel this warranted an investigation.
I raised concerns about James Barrett, consultant psychiatrist at Charing Cross and the GMC did not investigate but instead opened an investigation about me. This was closed with no fault found.
Professor Hindmarsh, via Dr Butler, consultant paediatric endocrinologist has made a complaint about my treatment of a transgender child. This investigation is currently ongoing.
A ‘senior doctor’ from Charing Cross has made an anonymous statement to the CQC which has now ben passed to the GMC. He outlines various concerns he has, none of which he can substantiate."

Also:

"As there are a large number of patients relying on my care who can’t get the help they need from anywhere else, and because there is a high incidence of self harm and suicide in this patient group, I am going to transfer the hub of my service to my other residence in Malaga, Spain so that I can continue providing care while the regulatory processes are being sorted out".

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 05/10/2018 20:30

Is this the woman who was prescribing hormones to 12 year olds and when she lost her prescribing rights, started using her GP husband to prescribe them instead?

Popchyk · 05/10/2018 20:32

Yes.

Same person.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 05/10/2018 20:36

because there is a high incidence of self harm and suicide in this patient group, I am going to transfer the hub of my service to my other residence in Malaga, Spain so that I can continue providing care while the regulatory processes are being sorted out

This is one of the lynchpins in the movement: that the incidence of risk and harm and suicide is so high that usual processes, boundaries, regulatory processes, safeguarding, the law, other people's rights, should all be thrown aside for trans people. Their needs are so urgent, so extreme, that to try and apply normal expectations and boundaries is interpreted as 'transphobic'. To go against these norms is therefore seen as something noble, instead of something wrong.

I am relieved that so far when this lunacy has gone through court process so far there has never been the special exemption that is expected. Emotion does not create reality. No one group in society can have extraordinary rights.

OlennasWimple · 05/10/2018 20:40

If the narrative is correct that trans people are the most marginalised, vulnerable and fragile group in society, then they deserve extra safeguarding, not dismantling the protections we have built

Anyway this is excellent new - the wheels of officialdom tend to grind slowly, but do tend to get there in the end

PositiveVibez · 05/10/2018 20:46

Excellent news. This quack fully deserves whatever punishment she receives.

WanderinWomb · 05/10/2018 20:55

*Are you being investigated by the GMC?
"I have had numerous complaints to the GMC about my transgender service. *

I always wondered why Gender GPs Mark? and Helen Webberly put that up publicly when didn't appear to have been made to.

I've just cottoned on , so she can name the people who complained and say where they work. I'm so slow sometimes.

RedToothBrush · 05/10/2018 20:55

When the whole question of whether trans activism is a cult, the only one it fails down on is the leader with the god complex. Then there is Webberley...

She has a god complex. And that's why medicine has strict rules on practising because of the danger of it within its field because there is a real risk associated with being closely involved in life and death decisions and gatekeeping.

It's a dynamic of an abuse of power of an intimate relationship based on trust between the doctor - patient relationship, where the doctor has power and the patient is vulnerable.

The patient is told that this doctor is the only one who cares and the only one who is looking after them and they are selfless in doing so.

Webberley behaves like a cult leader on every sign of a cult.

Financial abuse, God complex, above the law, perscuted by everyone else, tries to restrict critical thought, tries to keep group members away from outside influences, weird mantras, telling them unless they have drugs they'll be at risk of suicide.

It's scary. Really scary.

And it damages patient trust with HCPs in general not just individual directly affected patients, when incidents like this appear. The harm creates a ripple effect.

Starkstaring · 05/10/2018 20:58

If the GMC don't follow this up then there is no hope for anyone. She is an ideological zealot.

Molokonono · 05/10/2018 21:00

Excellent news.

Charliethefeminist · 05/10/2018 21:05

Nicky Campbell has unretweeted the advert. Sharp as a tack.

Biologifemini · 05/10/2018 21:10

You can by the pill and oestrogen etc over the counter in spain. So it is the ideal place for someone who can not prescribe easily here. I could just buy them and post them to whoever.

DayMay · 05/10/2018 21:11

Nicky Campbell has the broom and rug out. Nothing to see here!

Popchyk · 05/10/2018 21:15

"I've just cottoned on , so she can name the people who complained and say where they work. I'm so slow sometimes."

Yep. It is the same as Adrian Harrop denouncing someone on Twitter and then saying "you know what to do" to his followers.

heresyandwitchcraft · 05/10/2018 21:19

Thank God at least Healthcare Inspectorate Wales are doing their job! Well done!

MnerXX · 05/10/2018 21:23

Just when you think you can’t possibly be more shocked!

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 05/10/2018 21:31

Haven't seen any posts of support from her best friend on Twitter. 😂😂😂

RomanyRoots · 05/10/2018 21:32

Nicky Campbell may be trying to remove association, but we've all seen it now.
That's the idea of tweets.

Sarahconnor1 · 05/10/2018 21:37

Where is harrop when you need him ?

Helen Webberley found guilty
SophoclesTheFox · 05/10/2018 21:49
