Just seen on the BBC Wales news that Helen Webberley has been found guilty of providing an unregistered online medical clinic. She'll be sentenced next month.

Shock I knew that what she was doing was immoral and unethical - I didnt realise that she was acting criminally! This is excellent news, and hopefully will cause some to pause for thought

DayMay · 05/10/2018 19:34

So has she been convicted of mass fabricated induced illness or something else?

RealGhouls · 05/10/2018 19:34

mimmymum has just tweeted the Miliband & Webberley podcast to win the PinkNews awards. AIBU to think we should all vote for it so that they have to give the prize to a criminal?

DayMay · 05/10/2018 19:35

mimmymum has just tweeted the Miliband & Webberley podcast

Miliband deserves to be brought into newspaper reporting along with Harrop and Nicky Campbell.

RedToothBrush · 05/10/2018 19:36

Except the narrative will be persecuted hero gets recognition she deserves.

That doesn't help. It just adds to the drama and sense of victimhood and 'good v evil'.

LangCleg · 05/10/2018 19:36

What RedToothBrush said.

RealGhouls · 05/10/2018 19:37

DayMay as I understand it it's a Welsh-specific offence but presumably analogous offences in England, of running 'an independent medical agency' without a licence.

hiw.org.uk/providing/registerwithus/?lang=en

"Independent Medical Agencies are:

a service that is provided by medical practitioners that include private 'call out' services and travel and flu vaccines."

So basically she needed to have a licence because it was providing medical services.

RomanyRoots · 05/10/2018 19:39

I totally agree.
Even saying they didn't know is no excuse as they should make it their business to know.
I used to like Nicky Campbell, only found out about any of this from this thread.
Thank you very much.

RepealtheGRA · 05/10/2018 19:40

Miliband is up to his neck in this and the press need to start reporting on it.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/10/2018 19:41

She will of course be presented as a martyr, selflessly defying bureaucracy for the sake of her patients.

DayMay · 05/10/2018 19:43

Ed Miliband former leader of the Labour party, what do you have to say?

DayMay · 05/10/2018 19:43

I can't believe I wasted a vote on Ed Miliband.

Popchyk · 05/10/2018 19:44

The selfless martyr thing might work if she wasn't charging a fortune for her services every time.

Money is at the root of this. Not ideology.

placemats · 05/10/2018 19:44

Which Miliband?

placemats · 05/10/2018 19:45

Oh sorry. Ed? Shock

placemats · 05/10/2018 19:46

Ideology and money are well known bedfellows.

RepealtheGRA · 05/10/2018 19:47

Yes, Ed. Mr I screwed over my brother himself.

CisMyArse · 05/10/2018 19:48

I can't help but feel that there's more to this than just her desire to 'help' the trans community. That she should jeopardise her career to supports these patients belief without scrutiny of secondary care is beyond bonkers. I'm wondering whether there's been any pharma influence... there has to be some other incentive here...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/10/2018 19:50

I wonder if there will be a Webberley character in the forthcoming ITV drama? And I really, really hope this gets the media cover it deserves.

LizzieSiddal · 05/10/2018 19:51

Why does Dr Webberly think she is above the law, ethics, and most of all the. common bloody sense that your first option should always be to steer children away from making life altering decisions?

They make up there own rules and by shouting loudly #nodebate, tried to shut everyone up. Aimee C did the same, as is Harrop, Stonewall, etc etc.

It is starting to unravel though.

hackmum · 05/10/2018 19:52

This is good news. Thank god someone out there retains their sanity.

There was in real life, in the shape of Dr. Quack, sorry Spack.

He boasted about giving Jackie oestrogen at age 14.

He made out like a bandit from his clinic

I fear not quickly enough.

RealGhouls · 05/10/2018 19:57

This is Dr. Quack in 2005 explaining that transgender is innate at birth (yes, really) archive.boston.com/news/local/articles/2005/03/05/methuen_school_faces_parents_queries_on_students_gender_issue/

Somerville · 05/10/2018 20:04

Will this open the floodgates on Webberley being sued by patients/their parents, now or in the future? Presumably, her professional indemnity insurance wouldn't cover her for illegal medical work?
