Yet another consultation to fill in - on trans policy in sport

qumquat · 30/09/2018 16:27

Just seen this on Twitter from the Sport and Recreation Alliance. Very leading questions as always but it's a quick one to fill in so please do!

Sorry if that's not clicky I'm not sure how to make sure it is.

Ok, will d!

averylongtimeago · 30/09/2018 16:31

Do obviously

UpstartCrow · 30/09/2018 16:39

Was that it? 4 questions about who you are followed by 4 questions about how well you include trans people in your sport and a box for any other comments? Sheesh.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 30/09/2018 16:43

And you are asked for name and email. I just don't trust these details not to get leaked/stolen.

AncientLights · 30/09/2018 16:45

I can't get past the first page. My demographics - sort of - then one question which isn't applicable to me but no idea where to go from there. Did I do it wrong?

RatRolyPoly · 30/09/2018 16:54

Just to check, you folks filling in this questionnaire, you are representatives of the sports and recreation sector aren't you? Because that it what that organisation is. That is whose opinions and policies it is canvassing. That's who it's members are. It would be weird if a load of people who's sole involvement in organised and social sports was going for a jog with their mates, for example. Just in case anyone's compelled by this post to fill it in who has no involvement with the sector.

I mean that would be really weird, people telling us how to run our sports with no understanding of the ethos underpinning them.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 30/09/2018 16:56

What if you have kids doing sports - school, Borough and county level?

RatRolyPoly · 30/09/2018 17:06

Do you organise those sports and events Fekko?

Because if not you may well not be best placed to report back on the current policy you have in place or what challenges you've faced incorporating trans people. In fact you probably wouldn't even understand why sports organisers almost unanimously recognise the need to up trans participation. So I would say no, being that parent of a sporty child probably wouldn't make your opinion on what issues a sports organiser might face particularly insightful. Sorry.

ScienceRoar · 30/09/2018 17:08

I was able to submit a response without entering my name.

flintyminty · 30/09/2018 17:10

Some useful info on participation by teenage girls here:
www.womeninsport.org/research-advice-service/research-and-insight/girls-active-stats-pack/

RatRolyPoly · 30/09/2018 17:22

Just so everyone's clear, this is not a consultation on GRA reform. This survey is specifically to canvas the current policies and the experiences of those in the sector of implementing those policies, and what hurdles they foresee.

If a lot of unconnected individuals choose to spam the responses with their own agenda with no understanding of the concerns and considerations of those whose responsibility it is to actually manage sports and recreation - including the participation of trans people, which no-one thinks is anything but a given, it will almost certainly be unwelcome.

Just so everybody's clear.

If you want to reply to the GRA consultation, I'm sure that is linked elsewhere. If you have experience of organising sports and recreational activities, crack on. I know I will.

R0wantrees · 30/09/2018 17:28

From the questionaire:

'Name of Organisation (leave blank if not applicable)'

scepticalwoman · 30/09/2018 17:29

Get with the plan Rat
Everyone's identifying as representatives of sports organisations - of course, we all know far more about sport than those foolish people claiming to be sport and recreation reps.

Honestly...

VickyEadie · 30/09/2018 17:47

From the questionaire:

'Name of Organisation (leave blank if not applicable)'

In addition, it's a bit like letting people who aren't women offer opinions and complete consultations on whether or not women's spaces, organisations, prisons and sports - should allow men in.

Isn't it?

redshoeblueshoe · 30/09/2018 17:47

Ok Rat I'm with you. I don't do sport.

However DH is busy with his woman's sports team. I'm sure he will forward this to all of them.

VickyEadie · 30/09/2018 17:50

Tell me, RatRolyPoly - will you be making any comments about how unfair it would be to allow boys who declare themselves to be girls to compete in girls' events? Men into women's events?

Or do you reckon it's fine to allow the demolition of opportunities for safe and fair participation of girls and women in sport?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 30/09/2018 17:51

DSs swimming gets hacked off when they allow much older teens to compete with the younger ones. I dont think she would be impressed with teenage boys competing against the girls. At least in swimming no one would get hurt.

redshoeblueshoe · 30/09/2018 17:59

Oh dear I seem to have accidentally filled it in

Helmetbymidnight · 30/09/2018 18:01

This makes me SO angry.

Dd plays hockey - by 10-12 yrs the difference in size and power of the boys is substantial. And potentially dangerous.

Only twats could think it’s ‘fair’ to have them play together.

VickyEadie · 30/09/2018 18:01

I accidentally filled it in and then accidentally sent it to my brother, who is a sports coach with a large club. He's deliberately sending it to all the other coaches, athletes and parents.

TerfedOff · 30/09/2018 18:21

My finger slipped and I've sent it to my friends who run variously football teams, hockey squads, netball teams and gymnastics classes. Because so many of my parent friends run these things unpaid and unsung.

TerfedOff · 30/09/2018 18:23

I bet most of us know someone who volunteers on a Saturday to run a football squad etc. Time to rope people in I feel.

Budgieinaberet · 30/09/2018 18:26

Saturday and Sunday TerfedOff. Football all the way. Women's and girls

TerfedOff · 30/09/2018 18:31

I'm circulating it round all my kids sports WhatsApp groups.
