Not posted much on this but been following the debate. Just heard interview with the Guide Leader at the centre of the GG issues (Helen I think) and announcement that they will be debating the whole trans issue after 9am with Nicky Campbell.

A report this week in the Times, gave details of which universities were the least socially inclusive. Top of the list were Oxford, Cambridge and St Andrews. Then other Russell Group universities.

Now the criticism levelled at the media in recent weeks is the sheer number of journalists who have come from private schools. And if they haven't gone to a private school, the chances are they came from a Russell group uni background.

This of course is absoluetely nothing to do with this thread.

At all.

OldCrone · 24/09/2018 09:55

On now, how terrible and debilitating it is to be gender fluid. People clearly don't have any real life problems to worry about.

OK now it's just a 'choice' how to present each day.

Beamur · 24/09/2018 09:56

The last couple of callers are talking about social not medical 'trans' - which is just accepting non conformity, which is an area we seem to agree on.

R0wantrees · 24/09/2018 09:56

This person is now referring to themself as 'we'!

He is re-educating church communities.

JoanSummers · 24/09/2018 09:57

Current man is fluid so a man or woman on different days. Asked about how this works he says that at work he was always a man, but now he is retired he 'presents as Elaine' in some situations such as going to church. First church he came out to was hostile. 'Not very Christian' says Nicky. Dude says he is now spending his retirement reeducation churches. He says 'we' - I missed who else he refers to, is it his wife?

OldCrone · 24/09/2018 09:57

Do they include gender non conforming feminists under the trans umbrella? Can we all claim to be trans now - and people start listening to us?

FloralBunting · 24/09/2018 09:58

Nicky Campbell has always had a bit of a streak of viciousness towards what he perceives to be 'conservative' ideas. You can see this bias quite clearly on the televised debate style programmes he's done over the years.
He perceives the trans push as tres progressive, therefore has completely shut down any critical response to it. He's the old man of the wokebros, basically.

MuseumofInnocence · 24/09/2018 09:58

"It's good to debate" - you're not debating, you're all agreeing

OldCrone · 24/09/2018 09:59

Presenter now defending holding a 'debate'. I must have missed that bit.

Datun · 24/09/2018 09:59

Has that presenter ever actually lived in the real world?

Does he know what a transvestite even is? Do people think that transvestites are wearing female clothes for no bloody reason. Do they not understand it's a turn on ? It's a sexual motivation.

ChilliJamandAvocado · 24/09/2018 09:59

"we debate all things"

THIS IS NOT A FUCKING DEBATE, IT'S A PROPAGANDA STITCH UP Angry

vaginafetishist · 24/09/2018 10:00

'We' will be his wife. I would Hmm if a man came to my church dressed in his fetishy retirement drag clothes. I tell ya.

heresyandwitchcraft · 24/09/2018 10:00

I phoned. They told me they supposedly had no gender-critical feminists contacting them?

R0wantrees · 24/09/2018 10:00

Nicky Campbell has always had a bit of a streak of viciousness towards what he perceives to be 'conservative' ideas

it seemed that Nicky Campbell has a 'bit of a streak of viciousness' towards feminism and mention of the patriachy.

Zeugma · 24/09/2018 10:00

This was clearly a total waste of time. Their agenda was decided - uncritical fawning - and no dissenting voices are to be heard except for one extreme text and a couple more one-liners shoe-horned in as an afterthought, but with full deference given to Webberley.

I'm aghast that she's been allowed to say 'no-one's being hurt by this'. AGHAST.

TefalTester123 · 24/09/2018 10:01

I listen to this programme reasonably regularly and this is the most one sided programme I've ever heard. It's disgusting. Compare with a Brexit debate where you get rabid opinions on either side.

vaginafetishist · 24/09/2018 10:01

Yes thanks Datun. That part is being missed and the idea that it's unchristian to not want to be part of it.

JoanSummers · 24/09/2018 10:01

Helen Webberley saying this bunch of people on the radio are brilliant because they are all advocates or people whose lives have really been affected. This last bit by Helen should be transcribed Rowan, yes.

JackyHolyoake · 24/09/2018 10:01

How many times was the word 'sex' used by anyone in that discussion? I don't recall hearing it once.

Juells · 24/09/2018 10:02

I just went on the 5Live twitter and see a nice ad for GenderGP - "If anyone would like more information about GenderGP or to discuss in confidence how we can support your transition please get in touch."

Someone said that 'the transphobe' who was invited to speak pulled out? Anyone know if that's true?

R0wantrees · 24/09/2018 10:03

Dr Webberley 'no-one is being hurt'
BBC article 2017 'GP probed for giving child, 12, gender-change hormones'

(extract)
"A Monmouthshire GP is being investigated over complaints about her giving gender-change hormones to children as young as 12.

Dr Helen Webberley has been restricted from treating transgender patients unsupervised while the General Medical Council (GMC) looks into the case.

The Abergavenny-based GP said there had been no adverse finding against her.

The GMC said it would only comment on investigations if and when they reached tribunal stage.

The investigation was launched after two GPs complained to the GMC about Dr Webberley's private clinic, which specialises in gender issues.

She told the BBC she had given cross-sex hormone treatment to one 12-year-old and three 15-year-olds, despite NHS guidelines that they be given at about 16 or over." (continues)

Charliethefeminist · 24/09/2018 10:03

Rubbish. Either they're lying or the programme revealed information it shouldn't have.

FloralBunting · 24/09/2018 10:03

R0wan, oh, I don't disagree. But I think that's because in his mind he pitched himself as a progressive liberal and sees actual Feminism and fighting against the Patriarchy as a bit passé. He's a 'cutting edge type.

Datun · 24/09/2018 10:04

Helen Watts was on LBC ?

How do I get catch up radio. I'm having no luck

heresyandwitchcraft · 24/09/2018 10:04

Oh but nobody just wakes up and decides their gender on that day?
