Laura Huteson death: Hull man killed woman in 'bizarre' sex game www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-humber-45140580

How often hetersexual men die during “risky” sex games because I can’t think of one case from the news? I know that sadly happens in same sex couples/ participants (can think of a couple examples from the news) but in hetero? It seems it tends to be women who love being throttled, punched, tied up, brutalised.

What does it mean he did not intend that to happen. What did he think would happen.

OP posts:
BlooperReel · 14/08/2018 12:50

Fucking hell, 6 years'. How? Her family must be absolutely shattered by this. Manslaughter for someone who keeps a knife under his pillow specifically to hold against the throat of women he has sex with, is that not the fucking definition of premeditated?

It is clear to anyone with more than 2 brain cells that this violent, misogynistic scum was building up to to this. Any previous acts were mere practice.

placemats · 14/08/2018 19:24

He pleaded guilty to the charge brought before him.

I'm not sure what that charge was.

In pleading guilty it meant that there wasn't a jury but a judge for his trial.

Anlaf · 14/08/2018 19:38

Haven't rtft yet but may be worth collating all these "sex games gone wrong" as I suspect there are an appalling number of them.

Here was one where this woman's injuries (in addition to strangulation) were so severe that her bowel was punctured. Not murder, apparently:

www.scotsman.com/lifestyle/our-daughter-was-killed-then-they-destroyed-her-1-1299637

placemats · 14/08/2018 20:02

Bowel punctures and vaginal lacerations are common in women of reproductive age.

Overwhelmingly the majority are seen during childbirth.

It sickens me that this is part of 'sex play' as well.

Anlaf · 14/08/2018 20:03

This should be highly relevant- on the man who strangled Chloe Miazek:

During the hearing, Bruce’s lawyer said his client accepted he did not get consent from his victim to choke her.

What the fucking fuck?

www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/aberdeen/1448262/man-jailed-for-six-years-after-killing-20-year-old-chloe-miazek-in-aberdeen-flat/

Ereshkigal · 14/08/2018 20:28

Another 6 year one!

DuckingGoodPJs · 15/08/2018 12:26

we ask judges to treat the consent as irrelevant if death results, or if a living complainant brings a case stating that an abusive and violent sexual experience happened.?

YY to this, and the rest of your comment Chatty
All perfectly logical.

DuckingGoodPJs · 15/08/2018 12:30

- understanding that the rules around ‘sex games’ which the relevant community promotes would NOT include:
- that you have just met, before agreeing to do a life-threatening ‘sex game’
- that games involving fantasies of submission and domination do NOT acceptably translate into any real life situation where the submissive person’s life can be non-culpably taken

-that men who are having sex must take responsibility for their contribution to the safety and well-being of their partner whether they think she consents to doing something dangerous or not. (And Including when they ‘don’t recall’ or ‘didn’t hear’ an objection from the victim)
-The responsibility for NOT Killing always lies with the (potential or actual) killer.
- this obligation can never be delegated to the victim. The victim is not required to speak, utter a ‘safe word’ or perform a ‘safe action’, nor otherwise act to defend herself to STOP the killer from killing.

All excellent points, these ones particularly.

DuckingGoodPJs · 15/08/2018 12:33

Meanwhile, in Canada...
This POS claims the same "rough sex gone wrong". But in a twist, he and his lawyer are claiming leniency in sentencing, because he (supposedly) got PTSD from strangling Catherine Campbell (36), and off-duty police officer.

"Pink [defence lawyer] argues Garnier should serve 10 years behind bars — 10 years for the second-degree murder charge and two years for interfering with a dead body, with the sentences to be served concurrently.

He said Garnier should be on the lower end of that spectrum because he has been described as a "kind, caring person" who has shown remorse for the killing, which Garnier has argued happened accidentally during rough sex. The lawyer also included 31 letters of support from friends and family."

The diagnosis of PTSD came from a psychiatrist hired by the defence.

There were 10 victim impact statements, but 31 letters of support for him, being the Nice Guy he is. They met at a bar just a few hours before he murdered her.

This is DARVO in the courtroom. No justice for murdered women.

ChattyLion · 15/08/2018 12:41

Thanks for posting for all these examples of cases. I think it will be really helpful to collate these so that we can send them on with our points for change.

People at those organisations we send to can then work out what’s needed legally, but at least with numerous examples these organisations can’t say that we are exaggerating a problem and they will be able to easily spot the scarcely credible and abusive, misogynistic common features to these cases and to the judgements applied to them, when presented them as a group.

Anlaf · 15/08/2018 13:06

Here are some more cases:

2018 "sick sex game gone wrong" murder conviction. Megan Bills was 17 and her murderer searched for snuff films after her death. He also claimed she asked him to strangle her.

2017 (in in Spain but British couple). Bloke admits killing wife but first claims it was in sadomasochistic sex game gone wrong

Topsyshair · 15/08/2018 13:16

I'm late to the thread but how the fuck is "she asked me to do it", a defence.

If someone asked me to strangle them I'd run for the hills not oblige.

Even if these blokes have a fetish for it, they know it's fucking dangerous.

2007 Ipswich, two men claim Nicola West asked to be strangled to heighten her pleasure and died, in a car, in a sex game gone wrong. Life sentences for both.

www.ipswichstar.co.uk/news/body-in-boot-killers-jailed-for-life-1-163148

(enough googling for now. Can anyone search court records for sex game gone wrong as I wonder if this is really rather a widespread defence)

Anlaf · 15/08/2018 13:45

It's even worse that that Topsys, in the case of Chloe Miazek above, it seems that she did not consent to being strangled. But he still got off with murder.

TatianaLarina · 15/08/2018 14:32

Tbh in the absence of any info about Chloe going back with this guy from the bus stop, (CCTV for eg) I think it’s quite likely that she was just abducted.

ChattyLion · 15/08/2018 17:15

Thank you Anlaf

Anlaf · 15/08/2018 21:01

Salright Chatty!

I have some interest in this as - I believe inspired by one of the cases above which we'd talked about earlier in the day - my then-boyfriend strangled me while having sex. If I'd died there's no doubt he'd have said I asked him to.

This was an age ago, but v similar to much of the above. I was 21ish, he was early/mid 30s and as strong as a bloody ox.

There's another thread on here I've talked about this - it's worth digging out I think www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3165779-19-year-old-DD-tells-me-ALL-boys-want-to-throttle

Anlaf · 15/08/2018 21:08

There's another case in that thread linked:

2017, Nottinghamshire. 24 year old lad strangles and kills Hannah Pearson(16!) after he'd regularly watched strangulation pornography (was "obsessed" with it). Manslaughter, although charged with murder. He claimed he was giving her a massage and she had agreed to pressure on her neck - also reported to have claimed "sex game gone wrong".
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-40670225

ChattyLion · 15/08/2018 21:23

Jesus. So sorry Anlaf. Flowers

ScienceIsTruth · 15/08/2018 21:43

@Anlaf, in the Chloe case, apparently, the defence managed to dig up an old boyfriend who agreed that she had an interest "in choking".
Wonder how much of an incentive he got for 'remembering' that detail?

Anlaf · 15/08/2018 22:09

Thanks Chatty, I was dead-eyed about it for years and then realised it was not ok. Therapy has helped a lot.

Aye Science, it's the old "she'd had sex before so we must assume she consented with this completely new person under totally different circumstances"

It'd be really useful to show something like:

  1. choking/strangulation is increasingly expected by young men
  2. having previously spoken about this or even tried it with a different partner may therefore be common
  3. this is in no way an indication that the dead woman consented at a later date
  4. Claiming a sex game gone wrong is often used by men who have in fact murdered their female partners

I suspect most juries currently go "well that's pretty outre, can't be coincidence she'd once talked about it with a previous partner, must be reasonable doubt that this wasn't murder as she sounds like she'd have consented and what a tragic outcome for the poor lad" etc.

Butterymuffin · 15/08/2018 22:21

And a very short way into the thread linked above is a poster saying "actually I enjoy the act you mention, and personally have found myself having to persuade (for want of a better word) my male partners to do". That's all very well for those posters, but other women are dying because of this 'act' being seen as cool and exciting.

Anlaf · 15/08/2018 23:15

While I had the google open, some more women.
I don't currently have the stomach for more, but kareningalasmith.com/counting-dead-women/ will have all (or near all) women killed in the UK recently and I have no doubt there are more cases like these:

2011 Bournemouth. Man convicted of Julie Bywater's murder, although he claimed she'd throttled herself in a bondage sex game gone wrong. 19 years sentence - he was her ex and became obsessed after she dumped him www.thesun.co.uk/archives/news/390775/jilted-lover-gets-life-for-massage-couch-murder/
