Why we need representation from women (and why a Labour Women’s Officer is proving that transwomen don’t represent women)

UnderHerEye · 22/07/2018 18:18

The following tweet got the poster blocked by a Labour Women’s Officer

“Male violence is toxic isn’t it. More than 1,600 women were killed by men in the US in 2015

And 113 women were killed by men in the UK in 2016.
Disgraceful isn’t it”

This is why women need to represented by women in politics and not transwomen

How is this being allowed to continue? Does Labour just not give a shit about women anymore?

If you don't mind getting angry on a Monday, here's LM's latest published article, blethering on about lesbian erasure Hmm Angry

SlothSlothSloth · 23/07/2018 15:57

This is just so badly written and poorly thought out it’s not even worth discussing.

VickyEadie · 23/07/2018 16:02

It just demonstrates to me that LM doesn’t represent woman at all.

If you asked Corbyn what the Labour party is for, amongst his blether would be words about the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in society and standing up for them.

Labour has a 'women's officer' whose response to 4 of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged women in our society - women in prison - is to accuse them of lying.

AtreidesFreeWoman · 23/07/2018 16:10

LM is their own worst enemy.

I'll leave it there.....

VickyEadie · 23/07/2018 16:13

LM is what you get when a once-proud political party elects as leader a pointy-elbowed no-mark with not a speck of leadership experience or potential, who's spent his life carping from the back benches and the kids from the student union gleefully pull his strings.

SlothSlothSloth · 23/07/2018 16:20

To be fair Vicky I don’t think the rise of LM can be wholly blamed on Corbyn. The more Miliband-ish types in Labour - see Stella Creasy - are often massively outspoken advocates for chancers like LM too.

SlothSlothSloth · 23/07/2018 16:23

Momentum and its socialism bros certainly have not helped, of course. But I do think LM is more a product of this moment in time than a particular political faction. Even many tories would support LM being women’s officer, as they support self ID.

You're probably right, though I'd put it down to student union politics whereby their minds go on the shortest possible journey and the envelope on which they do their thinking is too tiny to show any working.

ByDayByNight · 23/07/2018 16:24

I peaked Corbyn after the GE, I am ashamed that I fell for the 'decent' man act.

AtreidesFreeWoman · 23/07/2018 16:30

JC is an activist not a political leader imho and I certainly don't think he's a "nice" guy.

I also agree with Vicky on her comment. What the hell is happening in our university's? Its gone from robust debate to no debate.

I am told SU are taken over by students who are all about feelings, have excellent memory recall and a good vocabulary, who are unaware they are MRAs they believe they are feminists.

hackmum · 23/07/2018 16:36

Has anyone got a link to the Sun article that “outed” Madigan?

SlothSlothSloth · 23/07/2018 16:43

Outed as what? I must have missed this...

VickyEadie · 23/07/2018 16:44

Outed as a colossal twat, I expect.

OlennasWimple · 23/07/2018 16:45

Sloth - LM claims that the Sun "outed" LM as trans.... Even though LM speak as repeatedly about being trans.....

As someone on Twitter said, "outed" is clearly yet another word that LM doesn't understand [grin[

VickyEadie · 23/07/2018 16:47

Hasn't LM spoken more than once about wanting to be the first "trans" MP?

SlothSlothSloth · 23/07/2018 16:48

But... LM is literally known only for being trans... does she think the sun would even be writing her article if her transness were not already known? weeps

SlothSlothSloth · 23/07/2018 16:49

writing her an article

hackmum · 23/07/2018 16:52

LM often misuses words. I don’t think comprehension is one of her core strengths, to put it at its kindest.

hackmum · 23/07/2018 16:55

Have found the Sun piece: www.thesun.co.uk/news/6823069/labour-activist-remarks-transgender-exclusive/amp/

OlennasWimple · 23/07/2018 16:58

does she think the sun would even be writing her article if her transness were not already known?

This is, apparently, further evidence of their transmisogyny Hmm

No, I don't get it either.

I also find it rather disturbing that LM's twitter feed (which is about 90% "Look at me, I'm trans") is completely dominated by the "are you OK hun xx" / "you go girl!" type replies to anything LM tweets. There is literally no dissent there.

Bumbungo · 23/07/2018 17:11

Every 8 days or so. LM says that 'it's all too much pressure for a transgal like her' and need to take a break from twitter. Cue loads of hearts and 'ignore the haters' etc. Then L is back two days later, tweeting away merrily about how hard it is to be a lesbian and shaking the money pot. And so it continues.

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 23/07/2018 17:15

I don’t think comprehension is one of her core strengths

Grin

I'm pinching that, hack mum!

SlothSlothSloth · 23/07/2018 17:15

Yes Olennas I’m actually slightly horribly fascinated by the fawning on her twitter. Much of it comes from women who are not themselves trans. Many of them are young university-feminism types who are very dismissive of men in other contexts, love tweeting about male tears and so on. And yet....

SlothSlothSloth · 23/07/2018 17:17

That article is mad. She can honestly do and say anything. Not even the tiniest level of competence or even good faith is expected of her. Her support is utterly unshakable.
