They've deleted the other thread. If they come here, I wouldn't engage.

ToeToToe · 02/06/2018 20:28

Yes, I agree. Ignore.

Imnobody4 · 02/06/2018 20:35

Yes I agree - don't engage. All the best, wish I was closer.

Writersblock2 · 02/06/2018 21:47

And I missed the last few pages of debate. Woe. 🧐

OP posts:
NaturalBornWoman · 02/06/2018 22:02

I missed it too, did it get even worse?

I wish I could come, but it's just not possible. Well done for going ahead in the face of all the shit, I'm sure it will be fantastic. Looking forward to listening in.

Writersblock2 · 02/06/2018 22:05

I feel like we should coach women in who live further afield. Grin

I have been lucky to attend a few meetings WPUK and We Need Talk and local events not assimilated to either. All have left me uplifted and with new friends. Please do not let chat on other threads put you off , that's what they are trying to do. You've got this ! Go and Speak.

pickledparsnip · 03/06/2018 12:17

Just about to buy my ticket. Cannot wait for this! When do we find out where it is?

Writersblock2 · 03/06/2018 12:33

I’ll send an email out later in the week to ticket holders about where we are meeting. :)

Bump bump bump!

JoanSummers · 03/06/2018 12:52

I would really like to come to this but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to. I'll buy a ticket later today to help towards the cost of the event either way. I really hope it goes well, it is so rare for anything like this to happen down here.

Writersblock2 · 03/06/2018 12:57

Joan you’re wonderful, thank you. If we can help with transport or accommodation, there are various women who have offers of both on the table.

OP posts:
JoanSummers · 03/06/2018 13:14

Thanks WB I will bear that in mind Smile

If you find that you are struggling to cover costs please do a callout for support (I don't know if you are, I just know a lot of regular non feminist mainstream events down here struggle to operate).

Writersblock2 · 03/06/2018 13:44

We’d definitely welcome any donations! WPUK usually funds everything (via donations from each event - pay it forward) but because they cancelled we are having to rely on ticket sales. The speakers are paying their own way which is incredibly generous of them, but we still have venue, PA system, security etc to cover. Hopefully with a few more sales we will get there. Any other money will go towards a website (though we may stick to social media for a bit) and/or organising a second event in the autumn (already have two interested speakers!). Women in the south west deserve to have a voice too, and there are many who wish to band together. I’d like to think we could tackle bigger pieces of work (responding to consultations, doing some research, letter campaigns etc) if we get enough interest.

Yeh I thought WPUK pulling out would have financial implications Sad

People outside of the deep SW - it is so so hard to do things down here. We are very disconnected from the usual political 'scene', and so we tend to be ignored by it. Truro has a population size of around 20,000 - the entire population of Cornwall is around 550,000! That is less than the population of Bristol. Add in the whole of Devon and there are still only 1 1/2 million of us down here. Can you imagine how hard it is to organise and come together with such a small population spread over such a large area?

Please please support this event if you can.

CorbynTrouserPress · 03/06/2018 15:45

Thanks Joan, that's really put things into context. One way I'm trying to support the event is to let people know about it, if others could do the same that would be a great help I think.

I spoke to Writers before and of course all the mailouts to organisations were all under the WPUK banner and Eventbrite links that are now redundant. If people outside of MN had been planning to buy there's no real way of letting them know they've changed...

NaturalBornWoman · 03/06/2018 16:58

I'd like to make a donation, is there a way to do that other than buying tickets I can't use and don't want to take away from someone else?

Writersblock2 · 03/06/2018 17:22

@NaturalBornWoman that’s very kind of you, thank you. We are currently using the email [email protected] so anybody can donate via PayPal to that email.

And thank you also, Joan and Corbyn - great summing up of the situation down here. Even though we have a few months to organise the WPUK event, we’ve had about ten days to cobble this together. So we are down on numbers of attendees. It’s such a shame because I’m not sure how else we can reach out to them.

I've bought a ticket and will be driving from the SE on Saturday and staying overnight. I'm really looking forward to it. Missed the bunfight too. Smile

Writersblock2 · 03/06/2018 20:18

Hi Science - great! Looking forward to meeting you. :)

Writersblock2 · 03/06/2018 21:47

We’ve just had a donation. If it was from one of you wonderful women here - thank you!!

Picassospaintbrush · 03/06/2018 21:56

A spare twin bedroom is available in my holiday home for anyone or two women needing it.

I will be donating, I have a problem with a hacked paypal account.

Writersblock2 · 03/06/2018 22:21

Thank you, Picasso - it never ceases to amaze me how generous and giving people can be. :)
