Posie: truthcrime harassment continues

Pratchet · 06/05/2018 08:42

Susie Green from Mermaids has appealed against the CPS decision not to pursue Posie.

Posie described truthfully what Susie Green did to her child in Thailand at the age of sixteen: surgery involving the removal of genitals, a decision so shocking to the Thai government they raised the age bar for such operations to 18.

A woman is being pursued and harassed for telling the truth. Can we show as much support as possible please.

Perhaps you're new here: it's not somewhere where you just make unsubstantiated allegations; it is somewhere that uses evidence and reason to make considered points. Hth.

terryleather · 06/05/2018 12:44

Writing transwomen are women in capitals still doesn't make it true...

AsAProfessionalPenis · 06/05/2018 12:44

sallyannemum
Do you realise that only a male can be a trans woman?
Personally I believe gender harms both male and females and I would love to see an end to gender norms
Sadly the reverse is happening
When I talk about men and women I am referring to biological males and females.
As gender means different things to different people and changes over time and place it is, imo, ridiculous to prioritise it over biological sex which is based on scientific reality

Terfulike · 06/05/2018 13:12

From what I've heard i fully support you Posies. Describing what occurred to the child of Susie Green as castration is clearly accurate by dictionary definition and was described by Susie (in more supporter-friendly language) in a talk I believe.
With regard to legal costs I'd be willing to contribute to this, or similar, test cases. I do think though that anything more than a workplace coffee club needs an accountant these days. As GC feminists in general we need to be squeaky clean otherwise the press could get sidetracked from the central issues.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/05/2018 13:21

We are going to see a lot of this crap unfortunately but eventually I think Mermaids will go the way of Kids Company.

I've been thinking this for some time

I'll chip in again if needed Posie. btw, did you mention when this all kicked off that SG had said that one of the WYP hate crime unit officers was a 'dear family friend' of hers? I really hope some journalist will start joining the dots and asking questions.

therealposieparker · 06/05/2018 13:21

I am taking legal advice next week.

NotARegularPenguin · 06/05/2018 13:45

Hang on. Why on earth was my previous post deleted? I simply said something which was medically correct. Pretty much what Posie has been told she's not going to be prosecuted for.

You have my support Posie, I can contribute more to the fund if need be.

Terfulike · 06/05/2018 14:22

Could this be because the FGM act refers specifically to damage caused to female parts, which the boy in question didn't have, even though he was a girl. If so that is wrong, but I suppose its to protect religious circumcision which I believe is legal.

Terfulike · 06/05/2018 14:24

It would be pretty extreme to regard this as a case of circumcision, though.

I might just post this on every Mermaids thread

Amalfimamma · 06/05/2018 14:25

@sallyannemum

Please provide proof of you claims because I've followed poise, and interacted with her, for quite some time on Twitter and have seen nothing of what you claims.

Oh. I've just read your "tw are women" statement. Never mind.that statement proves you're a delusional liar

HerFemaleness · 06/05/2018 14:38

Why is Green not being prosecuted under the FGM act?

Because Green's child had a penis and testicles, not a labia and clitoris. The latter are protected from mutilation by the act but not the former. Looking at the act it's interesting that the law makes it illegal to aid and abet a girl (under the age of 18) who is trying to mutilate her own genitals.

A person is guilty of an offence if he aids, abets, counsels or procures a girl to excise, infibulate or otherwise mutilate the whole or any part of her own labia majora, labia minora or clitoris.

With an ever growing number of children coming out as trans, perhaps the law needs to be updated to protect males, and also to add breasts to the list of body parts that can't be subject to unnecessary surgical removal or tampering.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 06/05/2018 14:44

Unreasonable complainant:

PERSISTENT COMPLAINANTS
CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS
Unusually persistent complainants not only seriously disrupt their social and financial functioning but also by threatening and intrusive behaviour frighten and distress those attempting to help them.
These complainants, in addition to seeking compensation and reparation, are in pursuit of personal vindication and retribution, aims incompatible with modern complaints procedures.
The manner in which the persistent claimants pursue their quest for justice and the form in which they express their complaints are clearly separable from the methods used by the vast majority of complainants and show a remarkable similarity to those described in the classic literature as characteristic of the querulous and vexatious.

Terfulike · 06/05/2018 15:11

HerFemaleness

Does this mean that mermaids are acting lawfully if they counsel a mtf child towards genital mutilation, but not if they councel a ftm?

Does mermaids not council ftm children then. Do they offer them watchful waiting.

With regards to the idea of peaking the whole nation, I would suggest that the 'born in the wrong body' notion has gained significant traction amongst the public as a result of various TV documentaries.

People need to be disabused of that notion otherwise Green is seen as a brave mother who had the misfortune to have a child who was born in the wrong body and did everything she could to remedy it.

I support Posie and I am happy to donate more.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 06/05/2018 15:55

Are parents allowed to sanction any medical treatment that they wish and to take their child out of the country for that treatment?

boatyardblues · 06/05/2018 16:03

I am not impressed with the continued pusuit of Posie - free speech is a critical right and freedom in any democracy. Keep up the fight Posie.

Re the money: Isn’t there a specific crowd funding platform for legal fees that pays it direct to the appointed legal firm? I believe James Caspian used it for his action against Bath Spa. Perhaps people would be more comfortable donating directly to Posie’s legal fees that way?

LangCleg · 06/05/2018 16:05

Are parents allowed to sanction any medical treatment that they wish and to take their child out of the country for that treatment?

No. Parents have responsibilities rather than rights under the Children Act.

We have highly developed frameworks for contested medical treatment in children - but the treatment has to be contested in the first place to set them in motion (by doctors, or social workers, or by parents if they disagree between each other, etc).

This is why it is very difficult to find and prosecute FGM.
