Any one see this?

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/04/12/radical-feminist-warned-refer-transgender-defendant-assault/

The asked that preferred pronouns be used

Ms MacLachlan replied: "I'm used to thinking of this person who is a male as male."

The article will be an account interesting to readers based on what was said in court, punching thing - probably what they all say - judges - can't predict what they will say. I will wait for tomorrow.

LangCleg · 12/04/2018 22:39

Um... didn't Tara have a crowdfunder running for voice feminisation surgery at the time of the Hyde Park incident? How is Tara's defence fear of being outed? Am I remembering this right?

ALittleBitOfButter · 12/04/2018 22:44

I've never even heard of that "doxxing website" and I've read everything linked on here for a couple of years.

They probably didn't want to mention gendertrender because the public might then go and read it and find out about the lesbian murderer etc.

Melamin · 12/04/2018 22:45

There is no point discussing this. We have to wait to see what happens in the morning. If there is a guilty verdict, the press do not hold back. Part of the downside of pleading not guilty.

ALittleBitOfButter · 12/04/2018 22:45

That article is bullshit. Maria "claimed she was attacked". So inaccurate to represent what actually happened.

ALittleBitOfButter · 12/04/2018 22:47

Surely surrounding a woman on her own picket line by identifying her from photos is the epitome of doxxing (and political harassment)

LadyGrey18 · 12/04/2018 22:49

the judge asked that preferred pronouns be used

That's something I've wondered about ever since reading this article:

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/victim-vile-bondage-paedophile-tells-8608834

In this article, the victim refers to his abuser as 'he' which the paper apologetically allows while saying she/her penis etc in all their own commentary.

I was wondering whether in countries like Canada, rape victims are forced to describe their attacker as 'she' in court (and describe the attack using the abuser's preferred language e.g. 'ladystick' or 'enlarged clitoris' rather than penis). I'm assuming the pronouns at least are compulsory or they'd be the ones committing a serious offence under Canadian law. Sad

I hadn't thought it had got that bad in the UK though. Does anyone know if this is something that is being enforced in all courts or is it just down to the individual judge?

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 12/04/2018 23:15

Lang you're right, I saw that crowd funder plea for money for voice surgery too. Wolf also has many personal photos up online for anyone who googles the lupine one's name to see. Not exactly discreet about the lupine one's biological situation.

Anlaf · 12/04/2018 23:15

Much longer piece in the Mail, manages to avoid using the word terf as a neutral term

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 12/04/2018 23:32

Can I ask people to contact Maria via her website peaktrans.org to send messages of support regarding the trial? You can send messages via the contact link which will get to her but won't be published on the website. She's also on facebook as Maria Mac.

This is very tough for her and her courage needs to be applauded. This is pretty much a test case in terms of highlighting the debate around free speech and what each side actually represents.

thebewilderness · 13/04/2018 00:05

If you have ever heard of Holla Back you won't have any trouble understanding why a woman is taking pictures of the people yelling at her.

Times today:
www.thetimes.co.uk/article/transgender-activist-denies-thumping-radical-feminist-wvzgq6fx7?shareToken=3e3e49e587906d72e8fe14dcbd402a1f

I was going to write a comment about the use of TERF but there are no comments for this article, maybe because it's about an ongoing trial.

MimpiDreams · 13/04/2018 07:26

I know this seems like a clear cut case of violence against an older woman to us but the way things are currently I have doubts about whether there will be a guilty verdict tomorrow.

There has to be a guilty verdict. They're not arguing that they didn't do. Their argument is that it was justified by self defense. If there is a not guilty verdict, the court is saying that it's ok to punch a stranger in the head if you're bothered about them taking photos in a public place. The rabbit hole is quite deep, surely we're not that far down it.

Juells · 13/04/2018 08:07

Someone attacking a woman for filming, allegedly for fear of being 'outed' as trans, while insisting on being referred to as 'she'.

What is wrong with this picture :(

Tanith · 13/04/2018 09:01

I’d never heard of GenderIdentityWatch.com so I took a look.

It’s not at all what Tara Wolf claims it to be (though Tara is now on the front page as a result!).
Those “outed” have already been outed by their own actions - it reports on trans-related criminal trials.

AnitaLovesVictor · 13/04/2018 09:03

I hope that can form part of evidence - and I hope Tara's FB post "I wanna fuck up some terfs" have been shown to the magistrates. That shows intent.

Thinking of Maria today.

AncientLights · 13/04/2018 09:09

I am very worried by all this but especially so by being expected to lie in court. Being instructed to lie in court. If a person has male genitals with consequent male hormones then surely the judge cannot tell people to refer to that person in the feminine form? I have no idea about TW in this regard, behaves as a man for Sure, but how can this end well?

Juells · 13/04/2018 09:11

"I attacked her because I thought she was going to out me as Trans.

I'm 'her', you bitch

AnitaLovesVictor · 13/04/2018 09:42

I can't even see who the author of that Sky article is, but it has a couple of factual inaccuracies in it (e. it was Maria that said "Who's attacking who" not the TRAs.)

I'm always surprised when people "pick a side" and thus anything a person "on their side" does is right and OK. It's very dangerous indeed.

LangCleg · 13/04/2018 09:53

But how can you have a defence for a violent assault that you were afraid of being outed as trans when you were running a public crowdfunder for trans surgery at the time of the assault?

R0wantrees · 13/04/2018 11:34

Isn't this at the heart of it all...

  • can violence towards women mitigated by a belief that gender identity may be challenged?
-can women's need for female gyny treatment be dismissed because of employment laws preventing gender identity being questioned? -can sentencing once found guilty of sexual assault be mitigated if gender identity is frustrated? -can women be accused of being 'Nazis' & 'bigots' and be slandered and silenced without redress or criticism whilst those spreading extreme hatred / bigotry / sexism are immune from challenge due to gender identity protection? -can we ask 'what about women and girls?' safely.....
SomeDyke · 13/04/2018 11:40

"the judge asked that preferred pronouns be used..."

When under oath, you are supposed to tell the truth. We also frequently see witnesses (in drama at least), being told to describe things 'in their own words'. Except this direction would seem to show that we are either having 'our words' taken away if we are required to use she to describe a male, and/or being required to lie by not telling our own truth................

R0wantrees · 13/04/2018 11:54

perhaps this may lead to proper legal scrutiny... if a judge asks a victim to use a pronoun of her alleged attacker then where next? Will every future witness be instructed as to which nouns as well as pronouns to use about person accused? Will all people mentioned in the witness box have to be contacted beforehand to ensure that they are identified by the nouns and pronouns they choose?

R0wantrees · 13/04/2018 12:00

I am trying to imagine a possible future witness statement.....
