She's trying to recruit J.K.Rowling

OP posts:

And this tweet means I now don't have any rights?

How?

Keep asking this, but there's no explanation. It should be a simple case of explaining your hypothesis.

OohMavis · 21/03/2018 18:41

Right, whatever, but Harry Potter is real.

So.

@Datun

So you have evidence that I'm going to be raped by a trans person in the future? Not ACTUAL trans people though. The undefined shadowy trans people. You have research and evidence to prove this?

And it's all related somehow to this tweet?

Datun · 21/03/2018 18:45

I can't actually read the tweet. But the OP was of the opinion that JK Rowling is being targeted due to her possible gender critical views. By Jack Munro who, apparently, is attempting to change J. K. Rowling's mind.

It's mportant, because J. K. Rowling is very influential and would be a fantastic ally for women.

And that's why her 'liking' of the term 'men in dresses' is a big deal - for lots of reasons.

She is very influential.

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 21/03/2018 18:50

Oh good, I’ll sleep tonight.

Elementtree · 21/03/2018 18:55

I am a woman. I have spent most of my life trying not to be shoehorned by gender into an impoverished and limited version of my self. I am not enacting a break between my sex and gender, I reject gender performance as a useful tool for getting on with life. Like most other women I know, I suppose.

And yet the status of those who do not feel the need to 'trans' is presented as though our sex and gender align. But this is a an untruthful shorthand. Most people's sex and gender don't align otherwise we'd all be fully paid up Ken and Barbies. But we are not, most mull around in the middle cobbling ourselves together through preference and experience and perhaps relying on stereotype to fill the gaps, who knows?

But this idea that 'cisgenders' are an uncomplicated mix of sex and gender that stand in opposition to the complicated transgendered identity is a false dichotomy. But sex remains binary, regardless.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 21/03/2018 18:57

Hardly possible when there are ten or so posted every day saying the exact same things ad infinitum.

You can't scroll past ten threads? Do your fingers not work or something? Sad

Djnoun · 21/03/2018 18:57

I still don't see the link between a minor internet squabble and my rights being destroyed.

It's really a very simple question. How does this tweet lead to this imagined catastrophe? What specifically is going to happen as a direct result of this tweet?

Well, the tweet that jk rowling liked, was from a woman fed up of being side-lined in the labour party (i.e., she feels she has is treated as though her rights as a woman in the party are less important than those of biologically male transwomen). Jack Monroe was upset about it and her reaction indicates that she thought said tweet was ‘transphobic’, whereas it could be considered more ‘annoyed that biologically male people are imposing themselves into women’s spaces/roles’ – i.e., impinging on women’s rights. Because trans rights are more important than women’s rights. So if you’re a woman, this is about your rights. Whether you agree they are being impinged or not. The tweet doesn’t directly do anything (obvs), but is about it.

Well obviously nothing, in isolation. Stop being so silly.

If one man stood up and said I want to rape women, in isolation, and no one else said it, or did it, male violence wouldn't be a thing.

yetanothertranswoman · 21/03/2018 19:16

ack Monroe was upset about it and her reaction indicates that she thought said tweet was ‘transphobic’, whereas it could be considered more ‘annoyed that biologically male people are imposing themselves into women’s spaces/roles

It's a shame that tweet JK Rowling liked contained the words 'men in a dress' to make the valid point about Labour, mysogyny and transwomen.

hackmum · 21/03/2018 19:19

A couple of weeks ago, when Monroe said she was leaving Twitter for good, you would not believe the number of people who tweeted about how heartbroken they were. I remember thinking, She’ll be back in five minutes. And so it proved. Why are so many people such bad judges of character? Monroe is clearly a deeply troubled individual.

flowersonthepiano · 21/03/2018 19:19

Agree yetanother. There’s no need to be deliberately hurtful.

TroubledTribble28 · 21/03/2018 19:25

TRAs and Harry Potter are both deeply rooted in the land of make believe.

Djnoun · 21/03/2018 19:26

Ok, so no one feels in the least bit threatened by this tweet and can predict no dangerous outcome as a result of it... But still felt like getting in there with a bit of trans bashing.

Amazing.

tierraJ · 21/03/2018 19:29

Has she had an actual sex change if not then she is not a man?

tierraJ · 21/03/2018 19:30

She seems like quite a nice person anyway but a bit mixed up

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 21/03/2018 19:34

Harmless

Trailedanderror · 21/03/2018 19:38

Sorry, @VladmirsPoutine just caught up.

I wish there’d been a thread celebrating JK’s ‘allydom’, we’ve been sidelined into bashing a confused and vulnerable woman rather than shouting from the rooftops that the tide is turning. For Jk to put her head above the parapet, however tentatively would have been more thinkable even a few months ago.

Trailedanderror · 21/03/2018 19:39

‘More thinkable’ should be unthinkable
