Lily Madigan Blocklist

So I am on this published blocklist. In good company with Julie Bindell et al, but still, I'm so angry. I've never tweeted Lily, so it is a mystery. I follow women's place and a lot of Rad fems, so it must be that? Anyone else on it? What should we do? I am totally shocked that this can be sanctioned by the party. That's my vote lost forever. Hell will freeze over before I vote Labour again.

LM has explicitly stated that no-one they represent (by which I assume people in LM's CLP) are on the block list.

I think LM takes that as a get out clause against being perceived of blocking people in an official LP context.

Whether that's true and whether you agree with that premise is obviously a different matter.

I think Labour are using LM to get themselves out of a difficult situation. I think they realise that they’ve painted themselves into a corner over trans-rights and self-id, with it becoming ever clearer that it is a hugely unpopular policy. So they have let LM off the leash with the intention of letting him implode and they can then reverse their policy as a result of this.

LM represents the Labour Party. So they are responsible, surely?

It is a bizarre list. Frances Barber is on it. She's always been very supportive of Labour. I can't imagine that she'll take kindly to being on the list. It is just INSANE.

LM is blocking Twitter profiles, there is no way of knowing where that person is. (Without stalking their profile) So when LM says 'no one they represent is on that list' it means no one who isn't in direct agreement with them. People have been blocked for simply asking what they intend to do within their role.

I'm in a local councilor run group (not mine, complicated boundary lines) and there's disagreements and cross words but people are allowed to express their opinions without being blocked. And that is how it should be.

I however am not blocked. I have a professional based name thing (I do Twitter under duress) so I want to be careful. I do follow a rad-fem but that's it.

Having received no small number of sexually predatory messages and dick pics from other twitter users, it strikes me funny that people are deemed "unsafe" for expressing themselves on a political subject.

If it is true that Madigan is explicitly not blocking people on their constituent list they would have to be using Labour's data to cross check.

But they have no way to know that is indeed the case, without individuals saying outright "I live in your CLP", and even then people aren't always who they say they are on the internet and LM has no fail-safe way of checking. And, of course, many people have been blocked without any inkling that would happen, so they have not thought to point out to LM that LM is indeed their women's officer

Using a block list is one thing, tweeting it out to followers with what is essentially an unfounded allegation against ever user on the list is another.

You just have to say anything remotely gender critical on a thread Lily's on.

I'm on Lily's blocklist - I tweeted at the height of #LabourLosingWomen - that I wouldn't vote Labour while selfID was endorsed by them.

I was told to vote UKIP (I won't, obvs) - but I said I'd vote Tory, because they are at least pausing the legislation. I was polite throughout - but called a TERF and blocked.
