The latest addition to a Labour LGBT+ advisory board has been announced. I think we safely say the party has made its position clear on trans issues

But the role is to advise on issues affecting LGBT+, not women, so it looks ok unless I'm missing something. Hopefully there will also be women advising the minister.

woman11017 · 27/02/2018 07:25

What has this person said to defend women's reproductive rights and lesbian rights?
Not a labour party I recognise. I can't imagine who labour expect to defend, campaign or vote for them, especially when their target demographic get wise to their own conditioning, and the court cases start.

ThatEscalatedQuickly · 27/02/2018 07:27

Munroe was the one who told women not to center vaginas at a women's march and that 'not all vaginas are pink' if I remember correctly.

RedToothBrush · 27/02/2018 07:33

Talking of trolls. Defend the Equality Act to the last. This is what its really about.

Have they forgotten that people over 30 can vote? This whole desperately chasing the youth vote look is downright undignified on a man Corbyn's age.

LifelongVaginaOwner · 27/02/2018 07:40

@niceberg Munroe Bergdorf has a very 'particular' view of feminism, co-opting #TimesUp for example to refer to 'TERFs'. I don't think that bodes well for the direction of travel.

Slow handclap for labour appointing a failed model.

LifelongVaginaOwner · 27/02/2018 07:44

@Red The first thing I thought when I read that was "Lily doesn't know what 'mutually exclusive' means" Grin.

But yes the defence of the EA is vital

OP posts:
Branleuse · 27/02/2018 07:45

@RedToothBrush is there a link to that where I can actually read it

AngryAttackKittens · 27/02/2018 07:45

It's getting hard to tell whether Lily is feeling safe enough to get away with being more honest or whether he's just too stupid to understand what people are asking him.

SweetGrapes · 27/02/2018 07:51

@RedToothbrush what is the last line? Trans male privilege?

Male privilege going across the trans boundary and men take it with them... and therefore their rights supercede? I don't have my glasses and can't read it very well - but it seems Lily is saying that. Am I wrong?

niceberg · 27/02/2018 07:54

Oh great. I see your point OP.

QuentinSummers · 27/02/2018 07:55

I think Lily doesn't understand the conversation.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 27/02/2018 07:55

I don't think L knows what 'mutually exclusive' means.

SuburbanRhonda · 27/02/2018 08:12

The first thing I thought when I read that was "Lily doesn't know what 'mutually exclusive' means"

Yes, that’s what I took away from the exchange. That’s a pretty fundamental misunderstanding for a 20-year-old.

Mind you, when you read comments on the twitter thread in the OP such as “you’ll do amazing good” and “it’s super great”, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised.

Thisusernamethingistricky · 27/02/2018 08:16

My first thought was that at least Munroe hasn't been given a woman's advisory role. But then again, this is the person who told women not to centre reproductive issues in the Women's March, so yeah, still a bellend. Ah well, the Labour Party gets their virtue cookie quota for the day.

Wanderingwomb · 27/02/2018 08:32

I think this is interesting. When I first read Bergdorf's comments on the inherent racism of white people I disagreed. Then I stopped and thought about it and sat with the discomfort of being a white person reading that statement. And I got it. I think there is a truth to it that society could do with recognising. Bergdorf's position on this doesn't mean they think every white person is bad or interfere with their willingness to engage with white people. What I would like to challenge them and the labour party to do is to consider similarly the inherent misogyny in the class of men. To consider that our society as we know it has been built on the backs of women; many unpaid, unrepresented, not recorded by history. To acknowledge that is not to hate all men or to refuse to engage with them.

Red
That's too small for me to read. Doi you have a link? Thanks

noraclavicle · 27/02/2018 08:44

Anyone still think JC’s going to agree to a webchat on Mumsnet?

OrderOnline · 27/02/2018 08:48

Boys corrupted by porn and power, enabled by Stockholm girls They won't win a GE. The woman and men will become brave at some point.

mirialis · 27/02/2018 08:52

SweetGrapes - I thought LM was saying that transmen had privilege over transwomen but it's very difficult to work out what's going on because I don't think LM is that clued up or bright. Watching LM on C4 news was one thing - very nervous, newly appointed, centre of attention both negative and positive... but having watched LM on other things I now just wonder what on earth LM is doing in a public role even if LM were Trans Youth Officer or some such.

LangCleg · 27/02/2018 08:53

Have they forgotten that people over 30 can vote? This whole desperately chasing the youth vote look is downright undignified on a man Corbyn's age.

Not only that but the psephology of the "youthquake" is looking distinctly shaky. Well, not even shaky. More imaginary.

It's quite the sight, watching the first hard left leader Labour has had since Michael Foot transforming the party into a bourgeois liberal outfit tailoring policies for the middle class student vote.

I should have seen the writing on the wall when the GE manifesto put 4x the cash into cancelling tuition fees than it did restoring the social security that has left hundreds of thousands of working class mothers without sufficient resource to adequately raise their children.

LangCleg · 27/02/2018 08:54

Munroe Bergdorf is an open MRA.

The Labour Party seems to be in the middle of a mass hallucination. Just as I think my gast can't be flabbered any further, they do something even more ridiculous.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 27/02/2018 08:58

I thought Bergdorf's analysis of white privilege and societal racism was pretty much spot on.

But that just made their total failure to understand their own male privilege in the context of societal misogyny even more annoying

AngryAttackKittens · 27/02/2018 09:00

I'm still not totally convinced that we're not all stuck in a Twilight Zone episode. Maybe a follow up to the one where everyone had pig noses and the one exception was being shamed for her normal nose.
