say spat, i kept asking him questions and he accused me of abuse. hmm...

SonicBoomBoom · 29/11/2017 22:34

When MPs were saying they deserved their ridiculous 11% payrise, one of the reasons was that they were really intelligent, successful people who would have risen to the top in business and been paid an awful lot more than 75k (or whatever), but they decided to serve the people, almost like an act of altruism, instead.

And this is the calibre of people?

Christ. Confused

pisacake · 29/11/2017 22:36

he's not an MP. I understand he wants to be one, but I think he's not very well thought of.

I went to a local council meeting once, my god what a clueless bunch.

www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-england-kent-37915011/maidstone-transgender-teen-lily-madigan-begins-treatment

I just googled Lily Madigan BBC. Not a single article, except this one from a year ago.

"There is a lack of representation for transgender people. So I want to do something about that". - as a women's officer?

Thegirlinthefireplace · 29/11/2017 22:50

Thanks Anlaf that is pleasing and unsurprising.

Although it is alarming to me personally because when I clicked on your link it seems I had bookedmarked halfway through that thread so, clearly I had read it but have absolutely no recollection! 😳

NettleTea · 29/11/2017 23:19

I had come on to show that response from Labour about Adrie - another of my CLP members had reported him too, and got the exact same response.

Yet Jared O Mara was ousted from an article he wrote back in 2004

and during 'the purge' people were ejected for retweeting a green party statement or commenting on the Foo Fighters

I want to know what this bloke has that makes him untouchable.

And he is still refusing to stand down from his post, and failed to turn up to an officers meeting of the Battle branch today. In fact he is threatening the police and solicitors if we dont stop harassing and bullying him........

RogueBiscuit · 29/11/2017 23:40

Has anyone emailed him ?

NettleTea · 29/11/2017 23:44

emailed Adrie? Yes. Emailed him to ask him to consider, once again, stepping down from his role as branch secretary.
To which he basically replied
'fuck off, Im gold plated and untouchable, me, and if you dont stop = my solicitor, and by the way wahhh wahh wahh'

RogueBiscuit · 29/11/2017 23:45

Nettle who is threatened solicitors?

RedToothBrush · 30/11/2017 01:24

An elected official who can not cope with public scrutiny?

Threatening solitictors? For what exactly?

Trying to get accountability for something they are worried about?

The role of courts is, in part, to uphold democracy.

The way to detoxify cults is to get people to think by asking questions.

It's on record that they don't want a debate. In a democracy.

Everyone should cherish and use their democratic voice and keep asking polite questions. Because it is their right to do so.

hackmum · 30/11/2017 08:35

Still gobsmacked at the idea that misogynistic views expressed six years ago are OK. How does that work, then? Would it also apply to racist views expressed six years ago?

And what about five years ago, four years ago? What's the cut-off point?

NettleTea · 30/11/2017 08:36

Adrie is threatening the people who are spreading any tweets with solicitors,

Sentimentallentil · 30/11/2017 08:43

Eh? Surely you’re allowed to spread tweets, isn’t that the point of tweeting?

Datun · 30/11/2017 09:02

Adrie is threatening the people who are spreading any tweets with solicitors,

What is it with these people?

Where does the mind set come from where you can criticise someone for reading and sharing what you wrote? On the most public forum in the world.

Is this part and parcel of that generation? Has having their views questioned never happened before?

“OMG I can’t believe you don’t agree with what I said. Surely that’s illegal?”

Is this where no platforming, censoring, and never being exposed to dissent has lead?

Sentimentallentil · 30/11/2017 09:24

I’ve just though that they know that they don’t have a leg to stand on but that if they went to court they would expose the people who sent the tweets? Is it another silencing technique?

NettleTea · 30/11/2017 09:35

Adrie threatened the Chair of the local branch's wife with solicitor, and possibly anyone who shares anything about him

as for the 6 year cut off - I think they are saying he wasnt a Labour member then so it doesnt count.....

was Jared O Mara a labour member when he wrote that review of the arctic monkeys in 2004?

Datun · 30/11/2017 09:40

I’ve just checked Twitter’s own guidelines. You can use screenshots of tweets. As long as it’s not for commercial gain. For instance, if a celebrity said he liked Marmite, Marmite couldn’t use that screenshot in their advertising.

“For news, whether online or print, it’s okay to use screenshots of Tweets. The permission applies more to merchandise, billboards, etc...”

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/techcrunch.com/2010/10/29/twitter-logo-rules/amp/

If someone, anyone, particularly in a position of authority is Tweeting incriminating stuff, I’d love to see them try and sue the people who share it.

LangCleg · 30/11/2017 10:17

I have sent an email to Dawn Butler, as Labour's Women and Equalities shadow minister, asking for the Labour Party's official definition of "woman".

I drew attention to dear Tris's assertion of the Party's supposed settled position and asked whether or not it is true that Labour does not want the votes of gender critical women, as he also asserted.

I also asked her what happens to transmen in this brave new world of "transwomen are women". Transwomen are fine because they can apply to women's programmes. Women aren't fine because they now have to cede space to transwomen. Transmen aren't fine because nobody's bothered to make any space whatsoever for them. Gosh, could that be because society is SEXIST?

Collidascope · 30/11/2017 10:26

Langcleg, your post reminded me of when I looked up trans people in sports a couple of days ago. I had assumed that there simply wouldn't be any trans men because obviously they wouldn't have enjoyed the benefits of testosterone that men had growing up and so wouldn't be able to compete in men's sports. Actually it turned out there were a few (not as many as TIMs) and all the ones I clicked on were competing in female sports. I didn't go into it any more deeply but it did seem weirdly illogical that these people who identify as men and thus are men (allegedly) could still compete in a woman's category. I didn't look into the HRT side of things. But yeah, almost as though 'women' is just the 'non-real-men' category...

LangCleg · 30/11/2017 10:34

Collidascope the whole thing just shows how regressive the trans ideology is. If the glitter family has its way, and it's looking increasingly likely it will, the end result will simply be a replication of the current power imbalances. TIMs will be over-represented in power and influence in the category "woman", and TIFs will be under-represented in power and influence in the category "man". It's all so depressingly predictable. Trans ideology is a men's rights movement. Same as it ever was.

Elendon · 30/11/2017 10:43

He has been a Labour member since the age of 17 NetttleTea

This is a link to the comments he made

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-41750136

And this is a video link with Sophie Evans who claims he made transphobic remarks recently. Jared denies these claims.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-politics-41736551/what-future-mp-jared-o-mara-told-sophie-evans-earlier-in-2017

Datun · 30/11/2017 10:47

It’s worse than that. Because TIMs can allege they will be representing women.

It’s not just regular sexism. It’s sexism that can’t be identified.

Elendon · 30/11/2017 10:54

Quite frankly I don't care if he wasn't a Labour member when the comments were made not unless he makes a total attitude change like St Paul on the road to Damascus.

I know people within the party who are sexist and misogynist and also believe in capital punishment. But they have become Momentum fanatics and so have covered themselves in glory because are not Blairites. I'm more centre than left. I would never vote Lib Dem or Conservatives though because I've seen how they operate at local level and they are no different in their idolatry than those in the Momentum movement. Both have an anything else but the other mindset.

LangCleg · 30/11/2017 11:08

Elendon - I'm more left than centre so it absolutely kills me that the left has gone this identity route. How can any left call itself left when it's adopted an individualist over a class analysis?

Elendon · 30/11/2017 11:14

I'm in my 50s LangCleg and have mellowed somewhat with age! Smile I do understand the attraction, but this is more than just taxing capitalist bastards. I did believe in a minimum income for all though back in the 80s and I still do - myself and my union rep at the factory I worked at to subsidise me whilst at University had many a long chat about this.
