I quite admire her tone of weary impatience, but if anyone is on Twitter and wants to thank/support her, here is the link: twitter.com/jessphillips/status/931093574011191296

It’s unbelievable.

The amount of men refusing to engage and just posting ‘transwomen are women’ makes it look like nothing more than a huge cult.

Don’t these people realise that they come across as deranged and entitled?

It really does nothing for their argument that they should have access to women and girls.

Datun · 18/11/2017 16:59

I see this sort of thing all the time, but this has really given me the creeps.

And that’s just a small section of it.

I'm not on Twitter and every time I follow a link and read a bit of it I feel... Quite alarmed.

QueenLaBeefah · 18/11/2017 17:27

Men just love telling women what they should think and feel.

Elendon · 18/11/2017 17:30

Jess Phillips has my support all the way. I want to thank her for her stance on this.

catgirl1976 · 18/11/2017 17:30

I've read all the comments on that Twitter thread (though 99% of them are just people repeating a ridiculous dogma over and over again because that obviously makes a thing true)

It's appalling. Men telling us what to think and shutting us down when we don't agree. Although there are loads of women saying it too who are coming across to me a bit like the "cool wives" if that makes sense.

And the #nodebate - don't get me started.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 18/11/2017 17:33

I've thanked her. This attack is going to be doing nothing for the image of transwomen.

birdsdestiny · 18/11/2017 17:36

There are some brave women talking about this subject. I think people forget that we have seen it all before, same old same old. We recognise it for what it is.

FloraFox · 18/11/2017 17:49

It’s a shame this happened to Jess. I hope she and other women trying to be reasonable can see that there is no quarter given by TAs unless there is complete and unquestioning capitulation to “transwomen are women”. WEP take note.

Remember Ada Wells - from Edinburgh Uni and a member of Action for Trans Health Edinburgh who gave evidence at Maria Miller's committee? His Twitter name is DykePRK and here's his contribution:

When you see TRAs en masse they really do look like a cult. They give off a strong vibe of threat/violence.

It's a scary "game" to play but if people like Jess Phillips pick up enough flak, this will help in getting the message through to the mainstream that there is something very worrying here.

Datun · 18/11/2017 18:17

BetsyM00

This Ada Wells? What a fucking plank.

QueenLaBeefah · 18/11/2017 18:18

Really didn't take long for the violence and misogynistic langauage to appear (again something men seem to love directing towards women).

Datun · 18/11/2017 18:18

but if people like Jess Phillips pick up enough flak, this will help in getting the message through to the mainstream that there is something very worrying here.

Exactly. They think they are Teflon coated. Immune. And they utterly expose themselves.

Bring it on. Let the world see.

BetsyM00 · 18/11/2017 18:19

The very one! Almost unbelievable, isn't it.

hackmum · 18/11/2017 18:19

I think Jess Phillips has been a bit on the fence up till now - she is on the women's equality committee, after all, which has put forward the proposals for the new bill. Presumably the vicious onslaught she's experiencing from the TRAs will alert her to how worrying all this is.

Completely counterproductive on the part of the TRAs.

nauticant · 18/11/2017 18:23

So long as she's going knowingly into the "game" and is taking steps to keep herself safe. If it were me heading into the role of the "transphobe-in-chief" MP I would be worried.

TammySwansonTwo · 18/11/2017 18:39

Okay so:
Men are a danger to women. This is why protection for women and women's only spaces exist.
Men are a threat to trans women. This is why they want access to these things.
If self identification is passed, there will absolutely be dangerous men who exploit this to access women / trans women.

Ergo, if you're legitimately a trans woman, wouldn't you also be against this change? It endangers you and erases you.

At this point I think most of those pushing this are those that know full well they'd never meet the criteria for a GRC.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 18/11/2017 18:47

That Sam Phillips on that thread is a stupid little cock, isn’t he.
And the other one going “you just need to think this forever.” By what right do you tell people what to think, fuckface?

Datun · 18/11/2017 18:50

Jess Phillips did a web chat on here. It was a bit of a debacle.

However, subsequently, a mumsnetter said she had met her, and Jess told her to keep going. Keep saying what you are saying.

It sounds to me as though she was gender critical, but fearful of speaking out.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 18/11/2017 18:59

All I can said, having read a bit of this, is that the number of utter morons out there in society is truly frightening. These people can vote! Assuming they can manage to locate the polling booth, which maybe assuming too much

colouringinagain · 18/11/2017 18:59

Yikes the "trans women are women thing is just like a cult. I've replied to Jess' tweet thanking her. Expecting that tweet to go down well Hmm

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 18/11/2017 19:16

However, subsequently, a mumsnetter said she had met her, and Jess told her to keep going.

Yes, that was me. I went to her book signing with a couple of other MNers (waves to @GinevraFanshawe and @venusinscorpio) & asked about the GRA, explaining that I'd been on the MN webchat and that a lot of us were worried.

Jess agreed that it wasn't that simple, that there were differences between women & transwomen & that we need single-sex spaces. She wrote "Keep fighting" in my copy of her book after.

Datun · 18/11/2017 19:36

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans

It was a fantastic moment. For me

It just reaffirmed what I suspected.

There are very many women out there who have questions and objections. I don’t condemn her, because I know she gets it. She was just worried. As are we all.

GinevraFanshawe · 18/11/2017 19:45

Yes, Jess is amazing and I can totally see why she'd be fearful of coming out as gender critical. No surprise at all that she's getting death threats from trans cult.
