I quite admire her tone of weary impatience, but if anyone is on Twitter and wants to thank/support her, here is the link: twitter.com/jessphillips/status/931093574011191296

I asked, he said ‘Well, if that is what would make the difference between them committing suicide as a teenager, then yes’ He has repeatedly told me the suicide rates in trans people, which is tragically awful. I repeated the mantra, feminists don’t hate or oppress trans people. We want to keep our rights.

FrustratedTeddyLamp

It’s not so much whether they personally would consider them as a sexual partner, it’s whether they think any straight man would consider them as a sexual partner.

And of course, there are two sides to this argument. But one is blatantly telling demonstrable lies. Lies that can be refuted at the click of a button.

Gin, if he wants to actually discuss the effects of so called "puberty blockers" with someone whose actually taken that medication, I'm happy to fill him in on how destructive it has been to my body and life as an adult, let alone to a pre-pubescent child. Feeling suicidal in your teens or potentially feeling suicidal and having your health destroyed for the rest of your life are basically the options. Having been on it I'd never give it to my children unless they developed one of the cancers for which it's quite an effective treatment, but I'm fairly sure those don't appear until adulthood since they're hormone receptive.

I was just about to post that article.

It’s unbelievable that women, working behind the scenes, have had to compile this information.

Fairplayforwomen, who are instrumental in all this, certainly have my gratitude. They had to analyse all the prison inspection reports in England and Wales to extract the information for themselves. Because, despite Maria Miller being told this would happen, she either doesn’t give a toss, or is dangerously naive.

And yes, morningrunner, I agree. About bloody time. The government are just about to legislate largely for a fetish.

Thank goodness for The Times, I've never been a fan but am seriously considering subscribing based on their recent coverage of the issues. And well done to FairPlayForWomen for their excellent research and effort to reach a wider audience.

cuirderussie · 19/11/2017 08:26

Should send Owen Jones that link though I doubt it'll have any effect. Great work though.

badbadhusky · 19/11/2017 08:36

There’s a trans related opinion piece by Rod Liddle linked at the foot of the prisons piece. Is anyone able/willing to share token it & post the link here?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 19/11/2017 08:40

I'm pretty sure I've said this before but if people do subscribe to The Times because of their gender-critical journalism, the more of us who tell them that the better!

SeaRabbit · 19/11/2017 08:44

It seems The Times is the only paper taking this issue seriously. I am a subscriber and have just sent an email saying thank you

badbadhusky · 19/11/2017 08:44

Thank you Empress.

IrenetheQuaint · 19/11/2017 08:49

Really good to see The Times and The Sunday Times addressing this; they're still the voice of middle-class, centre-right England, and it's bound to have an effect on people's views.

Look at this idiot who was attacking Jess

Have you noticed how many femle TRA allies are very young and stupid? Wonder how they'll feel in a decade or two when their career is ruined after that second baby or men stop being nice to them as they age.

DJBaggySmalls · 19/11/2017 10:54

She's a female MP. People cant even be bothered to talk to her like she's an MP. She asked for respectful dialogue and they respond with violence and dogma, the irony is overwhelming.

'die already'' said to a female MP isnt something we should tolerate.

QueenLaBeefah · 19/11/2017 10:59

I agree - the "die already" comment towards an elected member of parliament should warrant a friendly chat from the police.

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 19/11/2017 11:09

DJ can you link the 'die already' tweet? thanks

Apparently this is the twitter account of Ada Wells* but I can't find confirmation that this is the case.

  • LBGT+ Convener at the Edinburgh University Students’ Association who resigned over tweets that appeared to incite violence against police officers.
BetsyM00 · 19/11/2017 12:24

He has an alternative account 'trannarchy' which has this as it's pinned tweet. 7 day ban for promoting violence/threatening Jess Phillips.

nauticant · 19/11/2017 13:33

It turns out that Ada Wells* is all about violence to women who have the temerity to have their own views. Now there's a surprise.

  • It is annoying that he's appropriated the name of a campaigner for women's rights. Kind of like a twisted deadnaming through a distorting mirror.
CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 19/11/2017 13:35

So glad to see that guardian article. Baby steps...
