I quite admire her tone of weary impatience, but if anyone is on Twitter and wants to thank/support her, here is the link: twitter.com/jessphillips/status/931093574011191296

The Twitter thread is a proper shit show

twitter.com/jessphillips/status/931093574011191296

TRAs saying 'die terf bitch', and Jess saying 'I am the one who pushed forward for these changes, you are being counter-productive'.

Datun · 19/11/2017 14:10

I wonder if she had any idea what sort of response she would get.

I have to say, most of it is fairly tame in comparison to what other women get.

They still look unhinged, though.

Exactly the sort of person you want to share a bathroom with.

DJBaggySmalls · 19/11/2017 15:17

Some gems from dykeprk;

On Jess Phillips;
''this nasty bitch needs to be deselected already''
twitter.com/DykePRK/status/931634117053173760

''hurry up and die already''
twitter.com/DykePRK/status/931603905351438336

'Lads' comment. Of course, we all use the term 'lads' all the time.
''things are looking up lads, Gerry's getting back into the RA''
twitter.com/DykePRK/status/931692632480284672

scattermoon posted;
''No-one is performing trans surgeries on children, no-one is even suggesting that.
If you're against treatment for trans kids because of that, maybe admit you don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about, and trust those who do.''
twitter.com/scattermoon/status/931322227794108416

dyke prk replied;
''actually we are. I'm suggesting surgeries and hormones should be available for children who want them.''

TammySwansonTwo · 19/11/2017 16:05

Right so legally you can't consent to sex, but you could consent to a sex change?
What a complete fucking idiot.

Datun · 19/11/2017 16:14

The fucking two-facedness kills me.

Oh, but Jess, Jess we just want to go to the toilet without terfs inspecting our genitals. We don’t advocate surgery for children just a breathing space, won’t you think of the suffering children?

Women, die cis scum, you should be raped with a broken bottle, kill all terfs, look forward to your erasure, bitches, don’t say vagina, you transphobe, suck my lady dick, bigot.

sagamartha · 19/11/2017 16:33

I've followed Jess Phillips online for a while. She gets loads of abuse and some incredibly awful abuse, rape threats etc - from a wide range of people. I don't know how she does it. I think one night she got 600 rape threats and death threats

metro.co.uk/2017/08/26/twitter-trolls-send-600-rape-and-death-threats-to-labour-mp-in-one-day-6880394/

She is a fantastic MP and she has done a lot to raise awareness of women's rights in the House.

The responses to her tweet are appalling and just repeat the same words again and again.

MsDeerheart · 19/11/2017 16:35

Just to say I have a massive girl crush on Jess and have met her a couple of times - She will know exactly what she is doing - she has just tweeted today that she has good filters so doesn’t see most of abuse and I know she has good security anyway

badbadhusky · 19/11/2017 16:37

I am moved to contact Jess Phillips to offer my support. I don’t live in her constituency, but I think she is doing important work for all women in the UK and she needs positive feedback to balance all the fuckwits.

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 19/11/2017 16:43

She's great. If she manages to do something about this I will (re)join the Labour party and vote for her to be leader at the first opportunity. In fact, the first party who sorts this shit out will get my vote for life. The politicians better start taking us seriously, because there are more of us than the small number of trans activists, although they have the louder voice at the mo'

MsDeerheart · 19/11/2017 16:52

Ha she is one of the reasons I am still in the Labour Party!

BatShite · 19/11/2017 17:40

I genuinely hope she does know what she has got herself into. I actually fear for her safety after angering the transactivists and hope she is aware of how violent they can actually be

Gingernaut · 19/11/2017 17:46

Anyone wondering if this attempted theft was opportunistic or targeted?

www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/birmingham-mp-jess-phillips-mugging-13916344

This woman and her mindset is what we want more of in politics. Another girl crush here.

BatShite · 19/11/2017 18:18

That was on Tuesday though? She did not make the tweet that angered them until Thursday. So not sure how it could be targeted, unless she has made previous comments before.

whitehandledkitchenknife · 19/11/2017 18:22

I'm also minded to contact and offer support. I work in her constituency, although I don't live in it. I don't do twitter, would the constituency email be the best way?

greenlanes · 19/11/2017 18:35

retweeted and added support. Hoping that this wave of anti-women feeling can be turned soon.

MsDeerheart · 19/11/2017 18:51

Whitehandled her email is on her website sure it will be appreciated-
Re violence -
for many people I would be warriors she is already targeted by so many unpleasant types it’s not going make a material difference sadly
So the mugging could have been any group although sounds normal crime to me

Copperkettles · 19/11/2017 20:07

How much are threats of violence on twitter actually translating into physical attacks? I know about the recent one at Speaker's Corner and the one after that but haven't read about any others. Which isn't to say the threats aren't horrendous and that something won't happen in the future. I'm just trying to gauge how much it's hot air.

badbadhusky · 19/11/2017 20:25

Surely one dead female MP (Jo Cox) is already one too many? These threats are being made in a world where that already happened. They are beyond the pale and the people making them should be prosecuted.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 19/11/2017 20:37

Well it's like any of these things. 10,000 people say 'die bitch/n/dyke/whatever' on social media. 100 of them go to some shit rally/protest/march. 10 of them fester and plot attacks and 1 actually shoots someone. But it's all part of reinforcing the worldview of that one. That's why it's illegal.

Two years ago I would have happily acknowledged that a man can turn into a woman and I wouldn't have dreamed of misgendering someone. The scales have well and truly fallen from my eyes.

SavetheSeahorse · 19/11/2017 21:22

There’s a condition called Body integrity identity disorder (BIID), which is a psychological disorder. Many of you will have heard of it I am sure, and it can be present at an early age if patients are to be believed. An example is a burning desire to be an amputee, which stays with them all thru life. Do you remember the surgeon in Scotland who performed an elective amputation on a man with this psychological condition to prevent him from resorting to dangerous DIY or staging an accident. Since then it’s impossible in the UK to have a healthy limb amputated because the owner wants its removal. They are sexually attracted to amputees, though apparently wanting to be an amputee themselves is not primarily driven by sexual desire but more to do with identity. Extract below.

Therefore if BIID is a psychological disorder, then it could be said that Trans is too.

extract
“Described for the first time in 1977 as apotemnophilia, BIID was originally thought to be a psychological disorder characterized by sexual arousal associated with desire to be an amputee.

“It actually sounds a lot like another condition which we already do recognize called gender identity disorder ― where, for example, people are born as a male, but feel they're really a woman trapped in a man's body,” said Dr. Michael First, a professor of clinical psychiatry at Columbia University in New York City, who has been studying this rare condition since 1999. Typically it's more common legs than arms, there are people who want bilateral amputations, and I actually know of someone who has achieved that," he added. These people don't feel that it's a limb that needs to be removed because it's ugly and defective in any way, they just feel like it's extra. They just feel like it's not right having it there.”

Voice0fReason · 19/11/2017 23:03

Transwomen are trans. They are not women.
Why the hell can't men just be allowed to wear what they want - dresses, make-up, high heels. They can be as feminine as they want to be.

The notion of gender self-identification is dangerous as it eliminates all the protection that women have and need.
Sex offenders and perverts will have completely free access to women's spaces and we will not be allowed to challenge them

Datun · 19/11/2017 23:25

Why the hell can't men just be allowed to wear what they want - dresses, make-up, high heels. They can be as feminine as they want to be.

Because for many of them they don’t want to be known as a man who dresses as a woman. They want to be known as a woman because it turns them on.

It’s addictive, compulsive and all consuming.

Gingernaut · 19/11/2017 23:26

As far as I'm concerned if you're a bloke, in a dress, with no intention of having your balls chopped off, you're a transvestite. Good luck to you, away you go. Some are gay, some are straight and some are bisexual.

If you're a bloke in a dress and you are seriously considering having your bollocks chopped off, you're a pre-op transsexual. You need careful counselling and your psychological conflict with your body may or may not be resolved.

If, genetically, you are a bloke, but you have had your bollocks chopped off voluntarily, you are a transexual.

Transgender is a new and fucked up concept I will not seriously entertain. Especially with gender stereotyping so rigid that it harks back to the 20th Century.

Datun · 19/11/2017 23:34

Although I agree that having genital surgery demonstrates a certain level of commitment, I don’t think it’s that simple.

Some autogynephiles will go on to have surgery. Because it is the ultimate in becoming a woman. Having ‘sex as a woman’ is the pinnacle.

They may even have sex with a man. Whilst basically remaining heterosexual. The man will become a ‘prop’ in their fantasy.

There's never any middle ground with you. You are as fundamental in your views as some of the transactivists are in their views.
