Some of her aims:

Gender neutral sex ed
Women in leadership making room for transwomen (because you know how many women are in leadership roles)
BUS accepting transwomen to compete as women in sports

Sorry I am not trolling or disappearing!!

I've been busy throwing stuff in cupboards tidying up.

Anna was the trans officer.

The NUS is becoming right wing, if you ask me.

I commented on Anna's page and all my comments were removed.

Trans women are being side lined in trans issues

What a complete load of shit

Lightbulbon · 19/02/2016 18:43

The NUS has been anti women for a good few years.

I notice anna says nothing about student mothers. Hmm

Lemonsole · 19/02/2016 18:44

In the current climate, Anna has every chance of being elected.

A man. As Women's Officer.

Lemonsole · 19/02/2016 18:48

She also feels that NUS needs a specific, paid Trans officer.

RustyParker · 19/02/2016 18:49

I particularly enjoyed the "we" on the menstruation / tampon statement Hmm When was the last time your period pain or menstrual irregularities were dismissed by Doctors Anna?

Shallishanti · 19/02/2016 18:50

PLUS...they're reclaiming the night...tonight....in my town...'for all self defining women and non binary folk' :(
words are failing me now

RoseValleyRambles · 19/02/2016 18:50

Hmmm. I agree with the point panda made. Whoever holds this position (and it should be someone with a clear and Ken understanding of the issues faced by a broad swathe of women), they need to be prioritising the issues of women in general, and letting the lgbt rep prioritise trans specific issues. Otherwise one community has two voices, while the other has none.

PerspicaciaTick · 19/02/2016 18:52

Is she saying that trans men dominate trans issues?

Valanice1989 · 19/02/2016 18:55

Why doesn't he/she want MEN in leadership to make room for trans women?

RoseValleyRambles · 19/02/2016 18:56

Equally, looking at her full manifesto, the lgbt specific issues are only a handful of those she highlights.

StitchesInTime · 19/02/2016 18:57

Why can't men in leadership positions make way for trans women? Why specifically women making way?

This. And I agree that a Women's Officer needs to be prioritising women's issues rather than trans issues.

Claraoswald36 · 19/02/2016 19:00

Still waiting for the trans thought police...

PennyDropt · 19/02/2016 19:00

If all students can vote then she might easily get in - most students don't care about the politics and many males might think it's hilarious to vote in Maisie.

Valanice1989 · 19/02/2016 19:34

Oops, I should have read the thread properly before posting. bigkidsdidit already pointed that out.

Pico2 · 19/02/2016 19:42

What role does the NUS have in sex education anyway? I know that there is increasing teaching on consent for higher education students. But surely most sex ed is in schools and starts in primary school. At the moment I can't see primary schools choosing to look to the NUS for guidance or following the very confusing idea of gender neutral sex ed.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 19/02/2016 19:47

Hardly surprising, lightbulb - many students, including NUS officers, have been openly critical of student parents when I was one.

Butteredparsnips · 19/02/2016 19:55

Another one trying (and failing) to understand gender neutral sex ed....

Lightbulbon · 19/02/2016 20:05

This is so 'emperors new clothes'.

Anna is obviously a bloke and will live with the benefit of the male privilege that provides in a patriarchal society.

What's the point in a women's officer post if it isn't filled by someone who has experienced living their whole life as the oppressed sex class under patriarchy?

Northernlurker · 19/02/2016 20:09

This is awful. Who else is standing?

The NUS always was a hotbed of careerist twats, mostly male. Nothing changes I see.

Snowshimmer · 19/02/2016 20:11

Adding another Oh FFS to this thread.
Sex education needs to be improved not made vaguer and more confusing.

PosieReturningParker · 19/02/2016 20:11

A pretty decent candidate comparatively.... although an ambitious thing too.

The manifesto is NOT a feminist manifesto. Which is unsurprising. It's a trans manifesto.
