Some of her aims:

Gender neutral sex ed
Women in leadership making room for transwomen (because you know how many women are in leadership roles)
BUS accepting transwomen to compete as women in sports

And I find the above especially puzzling with men who are still completely biologically male, but declare that they're a lesbian.

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 24/02/2016 17:56

A queer lesbian is even more alternative than a regular lesbian! A queer male lesbian is the most alternative of them all! aka a straight man

StitchesInTime · 24/02/2016 17:56

(My last post was about my previous post BTW, not Perspicia's )

amarmai · 24/02/2016 18:01

perhaps the trans people shd start their own organisation and not hijack women's organisations.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 24/02/2016 18:06

at being retweeted by posie!!

PosieReturningParker · 24/02/2016 18:13

Anyone on twitter? show your support for the other candidate. Perhaps we could start a twitter storm or something, she doesn't have an X factor back story like Anna.

I keep coming back to Eddie Izzard (and particularly clip).

I am an NUS member (doing a PT course, paid the £12 for free McFlurries, if I'm being honest). Does this mean I can object to Anna or do I need to contact someone at my college to do it "officially"?

now excuse me while I laugh myself silly at Jeff Vader

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon · 24/02/2016 18:24

Eddie disappointed me by coming out as transgender in a recent interview. I always thought Eddie was our poster boy but apparently not.

PosieReturningParker · 24/02/2016 18:25

Who are you on Twitter?

OP posts:
PenguinVox · 24/02/2016 18:28

I'm not on Twitter but showing support for the other candidate on Twitter is a great idea.

Hennifer · 24/02/2016 18:32

Perhaps they prefer to keep their male equipment because a) it's expensive, probably, and very painful and horrible to have it changed, and b) they might be concerned that they'll change their minds later on and want it back.
There's also the possibility that they might want to conceive a child one day, or take part in penetrative sex - all sorts of things.

I wouldn't do it personally whatever my identification issues.

CultureSucksDownWords · 24/02/2016 18:41

If Eddie Izzard is transgender then so must I be. I am not traditionally feminine, have lots of masculine behaviours and interests. I wear trousers and rarely dresses/skirts (usually only for very very formal occasions like family weddings). I never wear make up and I don't do anything with my hair other than wash and brush it. It's obvious, I must be "half a boy" as well as a girl!

Mrsmorton · 24/02/2016 18:42

I've followed her on Twitter but she's not doing much tweeting about the election!

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 24/02/2016 18:54

I'm tilly, posie :)

kua · 24/02/2016 18:59

That's a great idea in tweeting support for the other candidate.

seafoodeatit · 24/02/2016 19:27

This has been coming for a while, alarm bells were ringing after the jenner and tara hudson incident. Of-course they don't want their own space, they're out to occupy and hijack ours, the only way they can 'feel' like women is by trying to police how real women live and identify.

I don't understand one thing (of many) if we all accept gender and sex are separate - if gender is non binary why are they having surgery so that their gender matches their sex? surely the two in that definition are not mutual?

why is it called gender-reassignment if gender is based on how you feel?

If feeling like a woman is all it takes to be one then surely that magical thinking is enough for your bits and hormones to now match or be irrelevant?

They don't seem to believe your genitals mean anything, any mention of them gets you the label of being genital obsessed so why change them?

Stop the earth, I want to get off. Sad

Lanark2 · 24/02/2016 19:34

Does this mean that if male company directors start wearing wigs and dresses, the quota issue could be sorted out?

HermioneWeasley · 24/02/2016 19:36

lanark they don't have to wear wigs and dresses, they just have to self identify. Bingo, 50% achieved.

The highest paid female CEO in America is male, and she was a man when she got thr job.

Shallishanti · 24/02/2016 19:47

re Eddy Izzard, I have just looked at his ws, and skimmed through his autobio, he states there he is TV, and equates this with 'male lesbian' I am content for him to be the voice of sanity still
Like Grayson Perry, if straight men want to dress up in frocks- go for it I say

Lightbulbon · 24/02/2016 19:48

I remember a stat that 13% of those who have the surgery later regret it and want to change back.

PenguinVox · 24/02/2016 20:05

Susuana Amoah is the current NUS women's officer and she is supporting Hareem on Facebook.

PenguinVox · 24/02/2016 20:05

Hopefully that carries some weight.

QueenLaBeefah · 24/02/2016 20:06

But how can any of them regret the surgery - after all they were merely unlucky to be assigned the wrong gender at birth and have always been women (with a shed load of male privilege).

MrsJamin · 24/02/2016 20:10

The other candidate Hareem ghani isn't blowing me away to be honest, I wonder whether she knows her frankly inane tweets will be noticed. How utterly depressing that there are only two candidates, one of which shouldn't qualify and one who doesn't seem to take her social media presence very seriously.
