Women 'Take Up Space' - Post something you're good at without putting yourself down.

I saw this on twitter recently: you tweet something you're damn good at, without apologising or getting into false modesty.

I was feeling a bit down today reading all the threads about how feminism is too this or too that, too academic or too humourless or not good enough at explaining itself - and I thought maybe it'd be good to have a more positive thread.

Rules: if you post a non-serious 'I'm so good at eating my bodyweight in stale Easter Eggs/procrastinating on MN' type thing, this counts as false modesty and you need to post something else too!

I'll start - I'm a really good teacher.

I'm good at problem solving and am organised.

I'm good at small talk and chatting with people I meet.

I'm good at navigating and map reading and have a good sense of direction.

I am very good at spelling.
I am very adaptable.
I am an excellent sleeper. (this isn't meant to be a negative one ie, I am a lazy cow I can just sleep absolutely anywhere and am very good at getting my mind and body to relax)

I am very good company. I'm witty and charming. I'm a very good listener. I'm a great cook and a warm and welcoming host. I am extremely well-read and have fantastic general knowledge. I'm a brilliant finder-out of information and putter-together of facts, bits of knowledge, etc, to make them more useful. I'm very generous. I'm a great mother, partner, sister and daughter.

That feels a bit weird, doesn't it?

i'm good at driving, i drive anywhere and don't need a map. i enjoy driving on motorways and never use a sat nav.

I have really good general knowledge, love a pub quiz.
I have lots of empathy and can build a rapport with people very quickly (important in my job).
I am pragmatic and level headed and can cope well with Bad Things (very useful during cancer diagnosis and treatment last year).

I say these things irl sometimes too. Some people are a bit Confused but most people are quite happy to hear me being confident about the things I do well. I'd never say them to people who struggle with that particular thing, and quite often I add something I like about the person I am talking to as well.

Such an interesting thread. And so interesting reading others saying some of the things that I'm good at and thinking "oh is that even a thing?", I suppose because it's not valued in society.

I'm thinking of "being empathetic" which I didn't write because it almost sounds like "being Sagittarius" and is just the way you are rather than something you are good at. But actually, it's true - empathy is a skill just like rally driving or something. And I am good at empathy.

I make beautiful crochet blankets and other crochet stuff
I write very, very well.
I'm bloody good at finding things out, plugging away like a dog with a bone.
I'm a very good cook.
I'm a very loyal friend.

I am also outstandingly excellent at ranting about things that annoy me.

Gosh. Never patted myself on the back so hard before.
