I saw this on twitter recently: you tweet something you're damn good at, without apologising or getting into false modesty.

I was feeling a bit down today reading all the threads about how feminism is too this or too that, too academic or too humourless or not good enough at explaining itself - and I thought maybe it'd be good to have a more positive thread.

Rules: if you post a non-serious 'I'm so good at eating my bodyweight in stale Easter Eggs/procrastinating on MN' type thing, this counts as false modesty and you need to post something else too!

I'll start - I'm a really good teacher.

I'm excellent at training puppies and dogs.

I never tolerate casual racism from any race about any race (I'm mixed race and proud of it!).

I'm good at spelling and I know when to use a semicolon.

My almost 6 year old boy always puts the seat down, flushes and washes his hands- I am taking sole credit for this!

I am amazing at shaping eyebrows- with tweezers, pencils, brushes...anything!

qumquat · 24/04/2015 06:51

Anyone else reading this and thinking 'I'm rubbish compared to these amazing people!'??? Blush I realise that's the opposite of the intention!

So, deep breath:
I'm very clever, I have aced all my qualifications
I'm a good teacher (shut up, inner demons telling me I'm not)
I am good at sensing what people are thinking in a group and ensuring everyone is heard
I work incredibly hard
I'm a good dancer and actress

CycleChic · 24/04/2015 07:01

Flowers qumquat
Usually I'm first in line for that sort of thing. With this thread, though, I'm just excited to see how amazing everyone is, and how everyone has her own talents :)

ErinBlockerBitch · 24/04/2015 07:19

I'm clever. And I'm funny.

IntrinsicFieldSubtractor · 25/04/2015 14:43

I'm really good at maths and science - I have a first class biology degree and I recently taught myself most of the AS-level physics course from a textbook in less than two weeks. I'm working on computer science now. I've started going through one of those American sites where they put their undergraduate lectures online for anyone to watch, and I'm really enjoying it.

On a related note, I've been good at finding things to do during a loooong period of un-/underemployment. To the extent that I've actually come to see it as a blessing because it gives me time to do and learn all these things I wouldn't have otherwise been able to. One of my friends asked me recently what my proudest achievement was and that was the one I went for - I could so easily have let myself slip into browsing Mumsnet all day making no effort because some days it really feels like there's no point, but I didn't.

As far as I'm aware (not qualifying, just being fair!) I'm also better than most people I know at trying to make a practical difference to what I see as problems in society, instead of sitting around talking about how Something Should Be Done. Which is one of my biggest peeves so I'm happy about that one too Grin

cailindana · 25/04/2015 17:13

I can clean very well (when I want to!)
I have good timekeeping and organisational skills
I am compassionate
I can analyse something and get to the nub of a problem quickly and express it well.
I love making people smile.

Right, I'm now off to do something I'm not so good at: dig out some important paperwork...

BigChocFrenzy · 25/05/2015 12:21

Inspiring thread. OK:

I have a STEM PhD - despite coming from a very isolated, low income, lone parent family, despite racism

I won 2 international science prizes and I have many patents

I've been a bookworm since age 6 ( yes, this is positive !) and I've read many thousands of books

I'm a gym rat who has built lots of muscle
I lift heavy weights

I train with men & women 20-35 years younger and I place high in gym competitions

I'm a feminist and I'm proud of the accomplishments of previous generations of women who fought to give us rights
I resist any attempt to reduce those rights now.

I have built up my own business and won an award for it.

I'm proud of the way I've hopefully inspired many children and made them believe in themselves.

PuntasticUsername · 26/05/2015 22:47

Wow. Fantastic thread! Reading everyone else's has made me realise I've got more to be proud of than I'd thought! However, I'm going to stick to the one thing I'm most proud of right now.

Ok. For various reasons, last year was shit. Really shit. This year started out worse, and was going rapidly downhill until about Easter. And it was all in my hands. I could carry on the way I was going, or I could do some extremely hard work and turn things around.

And I've done it. I've only fucking done it. It was incredibly hard but I've beaten my demons and become such a happier human being, I just can't tell you. I'm so proud. I've saved myself, my most important relationships and quite possibly, my life. Because actually, I'm not a terrible human being (which was Problem 1 - I've thought that my whole life), I'm a little bit awesome.

Phew. That got a bit deep! Grin er...I am also very good at undoing knots that no one else can undo. They'll be hovering with the scissors and I'll be all "don't...you...DARE". And I always get it in the end.

TheLily1957 · 26/05/2015 22:58

Good for you punt. Sound like you are more than ' a little bit awesome' !
Can I add at this point that I am good weeding having spent all yesterday in my garden digging up a good few months worth!

YonicScrewdriver · 16/08/2015 22:31

I'm really good at dread sheets, and fiddly equations & logic statements.

I'm very logical and good at problem solving, especially long term solutions.

I'm quite good at some maths, I'm good at percentages & averages in particular.

Ha ha to dread sheets! Great!

AnnihilatedBeerGuttedCats · 20/08/2015 12:02

What a great idea for a thread.

I can speed read, not skim proper read, and have pretty good recall.
I can find a 'good' vein in virtually anyone (exHCP)
I can also find pulses on 'tricky people.
And as needles don't bother me at, I've was very good at being a live practice person.

I am mega at keeping meetings to time without offending anyone (very useful at the minute)

I make a mega curry and a mean Victoria Sponge.

I don't take offence when given constructive criticism, I don't see this as a back handed put down, I see it as believing in myself enough to accept that sometime I might not have taken the best action, but that I have the ability to improve.

Damn I'm great..............Grin

Sallystyle · 20/08/2015 21:49

I am great at making people feel at ease.

People always open up to me and share their fears.

I am good at cooking.

I am great at caring for people.

I have a lot of determination. If I want something I go for it. I might struggle and feel like giving in but if it is important to me I will have a wobble then go back to it until I have cracked it. I need to remember this right now as I'm having a wobble about my new job.

I am good at spotting arseholes in real life.

JeanneDeMontbaston · 21/08/2015 12:01

Just saw you bumped this, yonic, thanks - and good luck over the next few weeks. Smile

I love this. Great thread.

I'm a good mum. I find it really fulfilling and I can tell my son feels really loved and secure.

I'm clever and a deep thinker.

I'm good at knowing what makes me happy and following that, regardless of what my peers are doing. I think this is one of the things I'm proudest of about myself.
