She was a virgin as was the culture at the time, nothing more than that and in fact I think the word virgin was only mentioned once. It certainly wasn't dwelt upon, more to make the point that the baby was not Joseph's.

The catholic church believe that she always a virgin as they see virginity as being pure and sexuality as bad - I remember having an all-out argument with a priest about this. But it is inconceivable (see what I did there?) to think that she would have remained married to Joseph and not had a healthy sexual relationship with him. Also lots of evidence that he had brothers and sisters. In fact it would have been expected at that time I think, for Mary to have a large family.

LEttle, the fact that he spent so much time with Martha and Mary discussing scripture with them shows how much he respected their opinions and thoughts.

The woman at the well, who was having an affair, was the first person Jesus revealed his true self to.

Then after the resurrection he visited Mary first, not Peter or any of the men. I like to think that these are powerful symbols purposely laid down by Jesus of the importance of women. There are probably more that have been taken out of the gospels for being irrelevant. The gospels we know are only a fraction of the entire writings. Does anyone know who compiled the gospels? Other than a man?

I'm sticking with this until a stroke of genius falls upon me, but I certainly don't want to upset ol' Nickel in her condition, so I will keep a lower profile.
