I am not a medic but I am an OC survivor.

My OC was flagged by the following twisting sensation in lower abdomen, gynae exam suggestive of ‘?fibroids’, sensation of internal bubble in lower stomach when lying on front on hard floor. There are many more usual symptoms but they are vague and general and I was ignoring them as ….so vague and general. Also looking back nurse comments at smear test and attempted coil fitting of ‘unusual cervix position’.

Suggest you request an ultrasound and pelvic exam to check for gynae issues, while
you remain in the gastro queue. Not to scare you at all but because something like this in the early stages can be a quick operation = full cure.

I am sorry I would be worried about ovarian cancer too.

ittakes2 · 04/11/2021 15:08

My friend had a phantom pregnancy - poor love was born without a womb and she so desperately wanted a baby her stomach grew like she was pregnant. Boobs grew too. Could this be you?

Welshandpro · 04/11/2021 15:14

@ittakes2 I have two kids and really don't want anymore and it's not in my mindset

@ShowMeHow did you have a large stomach as symptoms?

Nosilayak · 04/11/2021 15:19

I'm now worried about ovarian cancer. They could only see one ovary on the ultrasound and the transvaginal ultrasound as the fibroid filled womb was covering the left ovary. I've had the Ca125 and assumed, cos it was negative, I'm OK. Should I be insisting on further tests and if so what? I get weird twinges in my lower left side abdomen, sometimes it feels like a pin being stuck in me. I was also told a few years ago at my smear that my womb was very "high up". I've never been pregnant and adopted my son, so ultrasounds are all new to me.

RedWingBoots · 04/11/2021 15:23

@Nosilayak worth starting your own thread so posters can give you more information about fibroid treatment that may work.

ShowMeHow · 04/11/2021 15:25

I didn’t, but some do.

Don’t be scared it could be something and nothing and GP chose gastro route anyway.

CA125 may have been used as reassurance without a correlating scan and I don’t thing that’s adequate.

Welshandpro · 04/11/2021 15:28

@ShowMeHow thank you .. I'm going to keep on at that ... did you have pain in your pelvis ? And back ? Yes it could be anything but so frustrating at the same time

CoffeeRunner · 04/11/2021 15:29

Have you been referred for an ultrasound scan? I would think that sensible TBH.

Welshandpro · 04/11/2021 15:31

@CoffeeRunner I went for an ultrasound to look at gallstones only as the gp thought it might be that

@RedWingBoots Sorry, I wasn't meaning to hijack this thread, I posted my comments after another poster mentioned she was an Ovarian Cancer survivor and she'd obviously bravely conquered it and seemed to know a lot about it, then someone else said they too would be considering ovarian cancer with these symptoms. I apologise to the OP if they felt I'd butted in Flowers

Welshandpro · 04/11/2021 15:33

@RedWingBoots don't worry it's fine .. anything to help anyone Smile

I’m in a similar boat and age. I’ve had ovarian scans and bowel scopes. The cause seems to be growing fibroids and lockdown weight gain! So just to put it out there, that it might not be anything particularly sinister. But yes do get further investigations.

Ginger1982 · 04/11/2021 15:39

This happened to me when I was 18. My GP told me to diet. A private scan showed I had a massive ovarian cyst that weighed 18lbs when removed. I'd spent a good long while thinking I was just fat. Please get a second opinion.

Nosilayak · 04/11/2021 15:40

@Welshandpro thank you, I only mentioned my symptoms as they are similar to yours and I also have back pain. It is so hard to get a Gps appointment at the moment where I live, which doesn't help when you are worried.

ShowMeHow · 04/11/2021 16:01

Let’s keep the focus on you and anyone else in the thread with possible gynae symptoms who has been told a low CA125 is therefore ‘negative’ but continues to be concerned, getting the correlating parts of that test eg pelvic ultrasound and a gynae consult with pelvic exam.

shangshai · 04/11/2021 16:13

@felulageller

They should be ruling out ovarian cancer first!
My heart just sank. They definitely should be ruling this out first.

Best wishes to you OP xx

SpiderinaWingMirror · 04/11/2021 16:21

Fibroids?
I had one that went bonkers. I looked a good 7 months pregnant by the time I had a hysterectomy.

MrsPaulSimon · 04/11/2021 16:33

My stage 1 ovarian cancer was picked up while having an MRI scan for something because of my large stomach.
2 weeks later I had a 50lb ovarian tumor removed

Welshandpro · 04/11/2021 16:35

@MrsPaulSimon wow !!! Do u think they can detect it when the gp feels your stomach .. or is the scans etc the only thing that definitely shows it ? Sorry to hear that and hope ur ok now

OP posts:
Hadenough21 · 04/11/2021 16:40

You definitely need a pelvic ultrasound ASAP to rule out ovarian cysts / possible cancer (although hopefully not that as your blood test was ok but it’s still a concern without a scan). I paid for one privately and got an appointment within days, cost about £140. Nhs wait time was about 6 weeks and I was worried. They didn’t find anything though.
