Large painful lump next to anus

Sorry if this is TMI but I've been on a diet recently and the last week or so it's been more of a struggle to pass a bowel movement which has meant I've had to sit on the toilet for much longer than I normally would and strain more. Yesterday I had horrendous pain constantly in my anus which I just assumed was from the recent issues but it's got even worse today so I've done some prodding and I have a huge hard bulge on the left side of my anus moving up towards my vagina but it's all underneath the skin so I can't see anything other than swelling. It's painful constantly whether I'm standing, sitting or laying down. Will this be from the straining? I've done some Googling and can't work out whether it's Rectocele Expanded? Also how the hell do I treat this? Heat packs or ice packs? Any help is appreciated as I genuinely am in so so much pain.
Thanks!

I would go back to the Dr, the antibiotics should have made you feel better by now.

Riddlediddle · 01/07/2019 08:51

I don't have a temp anymore so I think they're managing the infection but I just thought I'd be feeling a little better by now. I've been taking the antibiotics for over 36 hours which is when I thought they really started to kick in?

Are you taking regular pain killers? Are you bathing in salt water/ compresses?

Bostyrone · 01/07/2019 10:20

Back to GP or other urgent care. ABs for deep tissue are notoriously hard to get right first time and you may need a combined dose or IV to really get to it. Hope you feel better soon.

PenguinsCantFly · 01/07/2019 13:53

I'd really advise going back! I think if it was going to drain by itself, it would have by now.

As a pp said, they are hard to treat with antibiotics, unless you catch it in the really early stages.

And I'm speaking from experiencing 3 abscesses. The first one was like you're describing and I needed it surgically drained. The other two I managed to catch early and they drained by themselves. But I also had sitz baths at the ready and the antibiotic CoAmoxyClav on standby.

WatcherOfTheNight · 01/07/2019 15:03

I agree with Penguins ,op
Go to your own Gp and get it checked ,from my experience with DH if the antibiotics are going to work they'd have kicked in by now .

Riddlediddle · 01/07/2019 15:14

Yes will definately go back tomorrow I agree it must need draining now. I fell asleep at 10am this morning and I've only just woken up but I'm still feeling absolutely exhausted. Something really isn't right

My DH has just had similar. The infection was inside a gland so incased in an egg like sac. The antibiotics basically couldn't get to it to kill it. We ended up with him screaming in agony and going into shock. I got him to A+E as NHS24cwere useless. He ended up going for an emergency operation at 5am. It was awful. Please go and get seen.

Riddlediddle · 01/07/2019 19:33

Tried ringing today but they have no appointments so need to ring back first thing. I will literally lose my shit if they say they can't see me I will.not settle for anything other than a doctors appointment tomorrow. I have such a weird sensation at the moment - if I stand up it feels like a dragging down sensation in the lump. Almost like a childbirth pain. Very strange

Can you go to A&E? You sound like you may have Avery extensive infection almost like osteomyelitis

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/07/2019 19:58

@Riddlediddle I'm an A&E/triage nurse. Please go to A&E tonight, this has gone way beyond a GP appointment.

alohadaisy · 01/07/2019 20:15

If you think that it needs surgery why are you waiting for your GP?! They won't do it! They will refer you to A+E/ emergency surgeon assessment.

Riddlediddle · 01/07/2019 20:21

I've never had anything like this before or known anyone who has so i am only going on what the doctor at the hospital said and that was to go back to gp if the lump was still there in 2-3 days which is what I'm doing tomorrow.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/07/2019 20:51

I know Riddle, but I'm concerned about you. Maybe ring 111 again, get assessed and speak to a clinician?

Riddlediddle · 01/07/2019 21:13

Thanks Bore that sounds like a good idea I'll try that

@RiddleDiddle was it a general surgeon that saw you? You really need a colorectal surgeon if at all possible - they see these things all the time and are the experts.

Your GP/doctor may not know that much about them.

Mine just told me to take paracetamol over the weekend and see if it goes...it didn't...got progressively worse and then I needed emergency surgery.

Maybe give 111 a call? They might be able to get you straight in to surgical admissions rather than the faff of A&E?

Whatever you decide, I really hope someone proactively helps you with this Flowers

JollyHolly30 · 01/07/2019 21:23

Please go back to A&E tonight. A GP appointment seems like a pointless waste of your energy when you could use that energy seeing doctors who can actually treat you.

EKGEMS · 01/07/2019 21:51

I'm an RN as well and I hope you go to A&E

candycane222 · 02/07/2019 09:31

Just to back what everyone is saying - you need to take this very seriously. A family member had an abcess that was missed for a few days and their bum has never been quite right since Sad

WatcherOfTheNight · 02/07/2019 14:18

How are you today @Riddlediddle ?

Riddlediddle · 02/07/2019 18:15

Had emergency surgery last night
