Large painful lump next to anus

Riddlediddle · 28/06/2019 18:58

Sorry if this is TMI but I've been on a diet recently and the last week or so it's been more of a struggle to pass a bowel movement which has meant I've had to sit on the toilet for much longer than I normally would and strain more. Yesterday I had horrendous pain constantly in my anus which I just assumed was from the recent issues but it's got even worse today so I've done some prodding and I have a huge hard bulge on the left side of my anus moving up towards my vagina but it's all underneath the skin so I can't see anything other than swelling. It's painful constantly whether I'm standing, sitting or laying down. Will this be from the straining? I've done some Googling and can't work out whether it's Rectocele Expanded? Also how the hell do I treat this? Heat packs or ice packs? Any help is appreciated as I genuinely am in so so much pain.
Thanks!

No IV antibiotics. The a and e is at capacity so I've come home with a load of antibiotics to take and some magnesium sulfate paste. I honestly am shocked by how poorly an access can make you. I don't think I've ever felt so so poorly in my life

Oh riddle poor you! How awful for you! Do take care.

DrDreReturns · 29/06/2019 19:22

Get well soon.

SinkGirl · 29/06/2019 22:02

So sorry you’re so poorly - I really hope the antibiotics work quickly. Thank goodness your partner was there, horrendous that you couldn’t get an ambulance - what would have happened if you’d been alone? It’s just awful.

Get lots of rest and fluids and hopefully things will pick up soon Flowers

PenguinsCantFly · 30/06/2019 09:28

How are you doing this morning @RiddleDiddle ?

Riddlediddle · 30/06/2019 09:42

Thanks for asking Penguins. Feeling very very rough still but I can feel that the medication is beginning to kick in so that's good. Just so sleepy but can't sleep!

Did they not say anything about draining or do a scan etc ?

Riddlediddle · 30/06/2019 09:57

I'm putting a paste on it twice daily to try and bring it out to a head. If that doesn't happen then they said they would need to drain it but they want to give it a chance to happen naturally first

Sounds a bit crap really magnesium paste is useless. Go back to your gp tomorrow.

Riddlediddle · 30/06/2019 10:15

Oh really. They really bigged it up to me and made out it will almost certainly work. I'll see how things go tomorrow then.

Dd had a massive breast abcess once, the size of an egg. The abx did work took about 5 days.

TwinsTrollsandHunz · 30/06/2019 10:40

Some people find mag sulph paste really works, others not so much. It can take time to work. Glad you’ve got some antibiotics now and you’re starting to feel better. Make sure you complete the course and go back to your GP or walk in to get it checked over.

PenguinsCantFly · 30/06/2019 10:44

In my experience (sadly have had a few now!) they can drain by themselves but you have to be so careful about infections. All the horrible stuff inside it has to come out, you don't want anything left behind!

My first one I had to have surgical drainage, the second one I was waiting to go down for surgery and it drained itself so I was sent away with mega antibiotics and then scheduled for something called an EUA (examination under anaesthesia) to check everything over.

A portable bidet (one that sits inside your toilet bowl) has been a godsend - half filled with as hot as is comfortable. Sit in it for a good ten minutes at a time! It will ease the pain, and can help to drain it.

I'd really advise going back to see your doctor tomorrow (or sooner if your temp spikes, the lump feels hot to the touch or is really red!). If it does drain you may need more antibiotics so still be seen even if it does!

PenguinsCantFly · 30/06/2019 10:45

half filled with as hot as comfortable water that should have said!

PenguinsCantFly · 30/06/2019 10:47

Also, I'd also recommend requesting an MRI if you at all worried about it once things have settled down.

They give a good indication of whether eveything has healed or if anything else needs treating.

LoafofSellotape · 30/06/2019 10:49

Try and have salt baths ,it will really help soften and bring it to a head if it's going to drain naturally.

WatcherOfTheNight · 30/06/2019 11:43

Poor you RiddleThanks
I hope you feel better soon.
I've nursed DH through these quite a few times ,they really do make you feel awful.

Bathe as often as you can ,add Epsom salts to the water .
If you still have symptoms or a hint of a lump that hasn't come to a head after a few days of antibiotics,go to your Gp.

DH has had a few occasions when he's need a second lot of antibiotics.
Also,5 that have needed surgically draining & 1 occasion when he ended up septic .

As Pp have said,if you do need it draining, you recover faster the earlier it's done .

sallyscallop · 30/06/2019 22:03

Ouch ouch ouch! I imagine hot baths will ease the discomfort.

Get well soon

Riddlediddle · 01/07/2019 08:21

First time out of bed today and feel absolutely terrible. The lump is still there and not come to the skin yet. I feel so weak and drained. I've been taking my 4 x antibiotics per day as prescribed so I'm not sure if it's normal to still feel this way now? From any of you that have been through it is this normal? Thanks

LoafofSellotape · 01/07/2019 08:25

Antibiotics will make you feel rough on top of everything else.

Are you eating/ drinking ok?

Trying regular pain killers?

Using hot compresses/ salt baths ?

Do you have a temperature?

LoafofSellotape · 01/07/2019 08:25

*taking

Usingmyindoorvoice · 01/07/2019 08:32

Please get back to the doctor. I tired oral antibiotics as I needed to attend a funeral of a dearly loved family member, but they didn’t make any difference and needed IV and surgery in the end

Sunshinegirl82 · 01/07/2019 08:42

It's been 48 hours of antibiotics with no improvement now? I would go to the GP for review as I'd be concerned about sepsis.

Sexnotgender · 01/07/2019 08:44

Definitely go back to the doctor. Hope you feel better soon, sounds utterly miserable.

HumphreyCobblers · 01/07/2019 08:47

I would go back. You don't want to be left with a fistula.
