Large painful lump next to anus

Sorry if this is TMI but I've been on a diet recently and the last week or so it's been more of a struggle to pass a bowel movement which has meant I've had to sit on the toilet for much longer than I normally would and strain more. Yesterday I had horrendous pain constantly in my anus which I just assumed was from the recent issues but it's got even worse today so I've done some prodding and I have a huge hard bulge on the left side of my anus moving up towards my vagina but it's all underneath the skin so I can't see anything other than swelling. It's painful constantly whether I'm standing, sitting or laying down. Will this be from the straining? I've done some Googling and can't work out whether it's Rectocele Expanded? Also how the hell do I treat this? Heat packs or ice packs? Any help is appreciated as I genuinely am in so so much pain.
Thanks!

Cloverisover · 02/07/2019 20:02

Phew. A tad over invested in your arse here. Glad you've had it seen to and hope you recover well.

Grammarist · 02/07/2019 20:14

Really hope you're ok. Sounds horrible xxxx

Someonesayroadtrip · 02/07/2019 20:24

Good luck recovering op. Good thread. So important not to be embarrassed etc. I had a similar issue and was amazed at how very unembarrassing it all was when it came to being seen and treated etc.

PenguinsCantFly · 02/07/2019 20:45

Sounds like there are a fair few of us here who have either been through the same or know someone who has, so we'll be here if you need us whilst recovering Flowers

MollyHuaCha · 02/07/2019 21:17

Well done Riddlediddle.

Get well soon. Thanks

Riddlediddle · 02/07/2019 21:19

I can honestly say the embaressment wasnt an issue for me. To them I'm just a number and they have no interest in how my bits look other than the poorly bits. Nothing they haven't seen before that's for sure. No-one should ever let worries about that stop them from getting seen - you're always treated with respect from my experience

Hope you make a quick recovery.

So scared about this ladies. I've just been discharged and had my gauze replaced but the nurse warned me that my wound is literally 1mm next to my anus. Therefore when I need a poo essentially I'm going to end up in a massive mess as it will end up all over the bandages and in the wound. She said she had never seen one so close before. I tried to have a poo there but couldn't but now I've just got home I need one. What the hell do I do I'm terrified?? She said I can't change the bandages myself because they leave a loose bit of gauze out and that will stick to the bandages and rip out too. Such a mess I could just cry

It sounds as though you may have been discharged too soon. If it were me I would get taxi to emergency room and ask for help. Really sorry. You will get better just need to get through crap bit. (Not a joke there).

Bostyrone · 03/07/2019 20:33

You should not have been discharged like that, that’s disgraceful!

BrienneofTarthILoveYou · 03/07/2019 20:33

Oh Op, that sounds awful. I agree with @HeronLanyon - go back & ask for help. Thanksfor you.

Bostyrone · 03/07/2019 20:35

Can you cover the bandages with something disposable until you’ve been? Having a good clear out is v v v important.

LittleAndOften · 03/07/2019 20:38

OP my DH has this operation on Monday and went in for his first dressing change today. He said he screamed in pain, you both have my sympathy. I bought him a child's inflatable swimming ring to sit on which is helping but he's afraid to poo too. I don't think there's an easy answer - he's using the wet toilet wipes x

Bostyrone · 03/07/2019 20:40

Far better to go NOW than let it harden and back up and then it’s like passing a rock. Stay away from codeine until you’ve been as they constipate too.

ohhdearyme · 03/07/2019 20:47

Can you hold some wet tissue wipes over where the gauze is to support it whilst you go?
It does sound like you've been discharged too early.

ohhdearyme · 03/07/2019 20:48

Or can you get in touch with your gp first thing and request a district nurse to come out?

FATEdestiny · 03/07/2019 21:03

Hold some tissue or wipes over the dressing when you go, it will be fine.

Drink tons of water and plenty of fruit/veg to keep things loose.

PenguinsCantFly · 03/07/2019 22:20

Agree with the other posters about putting a wet wipe or a flannel over the gauze. That should hold it in place whilst you go to the toilet. Drink plenty of water to help you go easier.

Do you need daily packing?
