Kodak - no, I'm very rarely starving ... hungry, yes but not starving. You can marinade your steak before cooking it. Also, buy some onion seeds to season things with ... very nice IMO. Congrats on the wedding btw now I understand why Also, remember that you can buy low or 0% salt ham, turkey, chicken, etc and munch on that on and off. The same for natural yoghurts - unlimited. Not the same as scoffing a piece of cake obviously but ... hey ho

MrsFawlty - well done you, very impressive.

Miggsie - I'm with you on that one. All I really want to do is eat fruit I have to say though on Dr Dukan's website he says that you can't have pork until the consolidation phase and then you can only have it now and then!

Forgot to put a big for uggmum

Hello again.

You are all doing so well!!

I am 4 weeks in today and have lost 17lbs. Even with a weekend away last week I managed to lose 3lbs!

I keep meaning to start the 30 day shred, as feel that I have plenty of energy, but I've not got around to it yet. I am struggling a bit with clothes as my current wardrobe does not do the 'new me' justice, but I refuse to buy anything more than the essentials now as I still have another 2 stone to lose.

I really do want to tone up and need to do more than walking to significantly change my body shape.

To all of you thinking about starting this diet, I would just say that I have never lost this much weight before and my progress is really inspiring me to keep at it.

Miggsie · 28/05/2010 18:18

I've just read the website and I'm doing it all wrong, I'm eating bacon and sausages and pork.

I've lost 7kg so I can't be doing too badly.

Mind you, I do have a strange metabolism, so maybe it's that?

I wonder if I'd have lost even more weight if I'd followed the diet to the letter? Well, luckily I'm losing enough for me.

Back to steak and salad for tonight.

I now have the remains of the fruitcake in a tin, and every so often I open the lid and take a big sniff!!! How sad I am!

Miggsie · 28/05/2010 18:19

PS: last night I ate a banana then did 55 minutes of aerobic exercise (step plus weight) because I wanted to get that "exercise buzz".

I am hoping the exercise worked off the banana.

...ok, back to the strict diet for 4 weeks.

Blackduck · 28/05/2010 18:29

book also available on The Book People cheap....

Jiru · 29/05/2010 03:06

Hello All,
Hope you don't mind me joining in the conversation. I am a mom of four kidsall grown up now. I live in Japan and could use some Dukan-ers to discuss the diet with. I just got the book a few days ago and decided to get going after reading about all your success with it.I have been on the South Beach diet since early March and have lost 18 lbsbut it seems like a slow loss at times. I still have a lot to lose--50 lbs.
I thought I'd shake up my metabolism a bit and follow the Dukan Diet. I started yesterday--attack phase. Lost 1.5 lbs in a day.
Day 2 todaydrink like crazyvery thirsty on this diet. Luckily here, I can get unlimited amounts of green tea from vending machines on every corner. I limit my red meat and find tofu and fish my best bet for protein. Oat bran is not available--but I am going to Canada next week so can pick some up there. I use rice bran instead here. Tastes fine in yogurt with a bit of cinnamon.
I will be traveling a lot this summer, so could use some tips on snacks to bring along that can cross international borders!! Meat's a no-no. At least fish is fresh, cheap and plentiful here.

I want to keep away from airport/airline food.
You are all an inspiration!

Thanks, J.

Day i of this diet

Probably a wet bank holiday weekend wasn't the best time to start

Those galettes - has anyone really tried to make one? And if so, did you actually eat it?

androbbob · 29/05/2010 20:49

Another new starter here - off for a weekend break next weekend so want to drop 5 lb min!

Starting tomorrow - have ordered the book from the Booke People - hope it comes quick! I have the diet plan from a magazine so hopefully with that and the advice here I will do fine! 5 days of Attack then onto the next phase in time for the weekend.

All those who have lost weight - fab results!

kolacubes · 29/05/2010 21:59

New starter here.

I'm going to start in the morning. According to the website I'll reach my goal 06/10. That sounds depressingly ages away - but I'll give it a go.

6 days of attack - let battle commence

androbbob · 30/05/2010 21:23

Started today but forgot to weigh myself this morning - doh! WIll do that in the morning! Been ok but was hard due to kids wanting to make cakes! We did run round the park though!

I can see me getting fed up with meat soon - will have to get inventive! Ordered the book so should come on Wednesday. Hope that helps.

kolacubes · 30/05/2010 22:05

DAY ONE - Bored of meat, and hungry, but can't think of any protein only product I want to snack on at 10pm at night!!!

msboogie · 31/05/2010 09:24

hello all

I've been doing Atkins for about 3 months and have lost about 20lbs -I am doing it so as to look not huge at my sisters wedding (the week after next).

I hvae just had a massive blowout over her hen weekend and I want to give it one final push - was thinking of eating a la Dukan for the next 10 days or so.

Can anyone give me some pointers or direct me to this website I have seen mentioned please?
Can you tell me what you eat? I haven't time to order the book now!

thanks

Jiru · 31/05/2010 10:21

I was wondering about the amount of bran you're allowed in attack and cruise phases. I am eating rice bransince I can't find oat bran for love or money in Japan. I just read though that rice bran is soluable fiber like oat bran so I guess I am not too far off. Found wheat bran too which I got really excited aboutsad but true. I tend to put the daily amount in yogurt for breakfast. Then I see all these baked goods using bran in the diet.
I am traveling soon and want to make a few airplane snacks--the baked stuff might keep longer unrefrigerated. Have any of you discovered good travel snacks? I guess having too much bran is better than eating bad airport food.

You might want to google konnyaku--it's amazing and tastes like vermicelli noodles if you buy the noodle-shape ones (you can buy it in blocks too). It's got 9 cal. for a healthy big serving, 0 carbs, 97% water, 3% fiber. I eat it a lot and it really curbs hunger pangs. You might find it at a Japanese grocery. Here it is super cheap too.

So tonight I had some smoked salmon with lemon, capers and fromage frais to start. Then steamed baby cuttlefish and crab on konnyaku noodles--touch of very good low sodium soy sauce. So it doesn't have to be all steak and chicken.

I am on day 4 of attack and lost 3.5 lbs as of this morning--can't wait to wake up and weigh in tomorrow!!

insertexpletive · 31/05/2010 18:47

Hi MsBoogie

On Protein only days, my meals tend to look like this...
Breakfast - lean ham and poached eggs, scrambled eggs (if I have time - am pretty bad with making sure I have breakfast)

Lunch - Chicken slices or turkey slices, or ham slices (you get the idea )

Supper - low fat burgers or smoked salmon with dill and fat free plain yoghurt or steak, or steamed fish...

No veg allowed at all on attack, or protein only days.

I always have a fat and sugar free yoghurt, mixed with extra fat free plain yoghurt and add oat bran and wheat bran for a snack in the evening - just sweet enough to dull any cravings!

You must also drink at least 1.5 ltrs a day. Water is best, but sugar free squash ok, as are diet drinks such as diet coke (and others as long a sodium is low)
Tea, coffee etc is also fine, as long as you use skimmed milk and sweetener.

Good luck - It really does work if you can get over your cravings!

Welcome to the other new starters - have a look over the first few pages of this thread - loads of good advice!

Jiru - I would LOVE to visit Japan
Konnyaku sounds interesting - will have a look. Well done on your success so far!

msboogie · 31/05/2010 18:55

thank you for taking the trouble to post all that insertexpletive

essentially then, its like a low fat version of Atkins induction with fibre from bran rather than veg.

I can do that - I am nearly there anyway - I jut need to out out cheese

androbbob · 31/05/2010 21:30

Day two over and done - quite well even if we went on a picnic! I did feel really unwell this morning - readlly bad headache, felt cold sick and shakey - couldnt even eat breakfast! So went back to bed, with my 3 year old DS who insisted on looking after me (or my guard dog as DH said!) for an hour and felt better after that - if a bit weak. Not sure if that is the effects of the diet or a bug!

kolacubes · 31/05/2010 22:13

Androbbob Today was my day 2 and i had a pounding headache all morning, lifted by lunchtime, went out this afternoon with the family, and on my return fell asleep on the couch for an hour (which is unheard of for me).

Again like you unsure whether I've got a bug or lack of carbs/sugar got to me. But I'm going to percivere (sp.).

Quattrocento · 31/05/2010 22:15

Okay. End of day 3 on attack phase.

Was all going very well until went out this evening. Succumbed to one glass of white wine. Found myself very very drunk indeed.

Think this is because carbs absorb alcohol and carbless - you just end up drunk very quickly. Unfortunate side effect - be warned - stay off the booze.

kolacubes · 31/05/2010 22:21

AH at least that compensates for the cost of all the meat - it's a cheap night out for drinking

VTrying · 31/05/2010 23:51

Well, have read the book. (And the thread, and have also finished off the pears and the kit kat fingers.)
Am starting in the morning.
Am so fed up with being overweight but have lost the motivation to do anything.
I am 17stone, the most I have weighed in years.
I have completely lost confidence in myself and cant bear the way I look.
I avoid mirrors and refuse to pose in photos.

So here goes.
I have 5 and a half stone to lose.
I will be done sometime in April 2011.
I have a week of the attack to go through.
Dear God, I will need some support! I mean I like my meat and everything, but a week of solid protein.
I may suffer.
On the otherhand I have a whole wardrobe of clothes that I cannot do up.....

msboogie · 01/06/2010 01:07

get some laxatives in, VTrying....

and good luck!

Showmeheaven · 01/06/2010 13:32

Girls, another new starter here. I have the book on order from Amazon but until then I have a question re milk I hope ye can answer.

I know skimmed milk can only be used (i.e. 1% fat) but can I have as much as I want of it ??? I was thinking of having a nice big latte in the morning made with skimmed milk. This should keep the hunger pangs at bay until I get to work and have my B/F.

Delighted to hear of the good progress with this diet. Can't wait to start on Thursday.
