Hi, I have started the Dukan Diet. Managed to get thru day 1. Anyone else trying it? What do you think ?

SuperSoph73 · 01/06/2010 13:52

Hey all, welcome to all the new starters
showmeheaven - that sounds OK to me. I don't think you're supposed to drink loads of the stuff though.

Unfortunately I crashed and burned at the weekend. I've gone down with an ear and throat infection and although I can barely swallow, when I did eat it was all junk So, obviously, I'm still the same weight as last week. Have been fairly good today but am determined that once the antibiotics kick in I'll restart with a vengeance

Showmeheaven · 01/06/2010 13:59

Ah thanks SuperSoph, I'll be sensible and have a small latte so (hee, hee). I can't normally eat in the morning so it will be great to have this. I have recently finished Lighter Life so this diet will be like a feast to me, bring it on!

There is a bad dose going around (my two ds's have it) and when you are ill all you feel like is tea & toast! Anyway, I hope you get better soon and get back on the wagon

SuperSoph73 · 01/06/2010 14:06

Thanks showmeheaven

MuthaHubbard · 01/06/2010 14:24

am hoping to jump on the bandwagon and ordered the book after reading this thread last night.

have kind of started today as i'm off work this week so any ill affects am hoping will be able to deal with whilst i'm off!

have had scrambled egg and salmon flakes today, have steak ready for my tea.

one question, do crab sticks class count as protein (quite like these as a snack) and what yoghurt/bran do you recommend?

insertexpletive · 01/06/2010 15:04

Hi MuthaHubbard

I get my oat and wheat bran from Holland and Barret.
Yeo Valley do a nice fat free organic natural yoghurt and I add this to a Dannon fat and sugar free fruit yoghurt in the evening.
I think on attack phase they do not reccommend fruit yogs but even then you can have one a day and it did not seem to have a negative impact for me.

I am really hoping to lose another 2lbs this week - but have had a couple of slip ups so will have to see......

Good luck!

Showmeheaven · 01/06/2010 15:44

Oh, I thought you could have the fruit yogurts as long as they were fat free Did anyone else eat them in the attack phase ?

Am I mad in thinking I could make chicken/beef curry on the attack phase ? With no rice or naan bread of course Made with curry powder & a bit of skimmed milk or natural yogurt. Chicken tikka marsala could also be made the same way using tikka spices.

SuperSoph73 · 01/06/2010 16:13

Yes showmeheaven you can. Me & DH have been eating an awful lot of curries lately. When I remember I marinade the meat in a natural yog, spices, tiny dollop of tomato puree, tiny splash of soy sauce the night before. The only flavoured yogs you can have are lemon, coconut & vanilla AFAIK.

MuthaHubbard · 01/06/2010 16:35

thanks for that insert...am not really a natural yoghurt eater but willing to give anything a try!!

well done so far - am hoping to eventually shed 2 stone, though 3 would be a dream come true.

am off to drink some more water and then 20 mins on treadmill later

Showmeheaven · 01/06/2010 18:40

Thanks Supersoph, I'll stock up on the plain yogurts tomorrow & give the fruit ones to the kids. I'd hate to scupper my changes of losing for a yoghurt! Great tip re marinating the meat, will do this, sounds fab. Can't wait to start now.

kolacubes · 01/06/2010 19:05

Can you tell me please whether my dh is right and I've been a pig, or whether I will lose weight -

Today

I have eaten:

2 eggs
200g prawns
8 crab sticks
500g diced beef
150g Fat free natural yoghurt.

DH says I can't lose weight eating that amount.

Do I have to cut back tomorrow?

Quattrocento · 01/06/2010 19:21

I'm sure you can and will lose weight

My food intake has been

Breakfast - fat free vanilla yoghurt
Lunch - salmon steak and green salad
Dinner - roast chicken and ham and green salad

kolacubes · 01/06/2010 19:27

Do you know how much salmon, chicken and ham you have eaten?

Is it unlimited amounts allowed or not?

VTrying · 01/06/2010 19:46

Well, you might have gone a bit mad on the beef, but, if you go bcak to old fashioned counting calories,in total, your daily calorific intake is not that bad.

Eggs: 2x 90= 180 calories
Prawns : 220 calories
Crabsticks 25 calories x8 = 200 Calories
Beef: about 800 calories
Yoghurt About 60 Calories

1460 calories per day
Its recommended that the average female needs about 1950 calories per day.

If you go by Dr Dukane, as most of those calories are protein, you will only use a certain percentage of the total protein calories ingested. (Cant remember the exact figures, and I've put the book down somewhere.)

Anyway, the point is, you should be eating until you are not hungry any more, and not worry too much about amount.
I suspect though, that you probably havent drunk enough fluids, hence eating a v large portion of beef.
Dont worry about it.
See how you go tomorrow.

kolacubes · 01/06/2010 20:02

Thanks for that VTrying.

I have drunk today:

2 cups of black tea
1 cup of green tea
500ml of still water
1500ml of sparkling water

Maybe my dh has a point and I am a pig

Okay tomorrow's food plan is:

Eggs x 2
200g chicken
120g salmon
Yoghurt

1 litre of still water
1.5 litres of sparkling
1 black tea
1 green tea.

kolacubes · 01/06/2010 20:04

My menu for the day looks depressing for one meal

VTrying · 01/06/2010 20:12

No pigginess.
Definitely not.
I have done slimming world in the past, and one of the big things there was never to be hungry. I ate a lot more than that....

The thing is, eat until you are satisfied. You will eventually start to eat less, because you wont feel the need to eat so much.
If you feel that you are not eating enough, you will be tempted to fall off the wagon.
Ignore your DH, (Although I am sure he is lovely!)
Eat as much as you feel you need.
Its only this week after all.....
And, AND it works...
but if you feel you are being restricted, your mind will make you crave carbs.
Eat the whole cow if you need to.

kolacubes · 01/06/2010 20:19

Thank you for the pep talk VTrying - that was what I definitely needed. I'll try drinking the water just prior to the eating, so I get the full up feeling.

androbbob · 01/06/2010 21:03

Survived another day and appear to be 3 lbs lighter than when I started. I am doing another two days on attack and then moving onto the next stage for the long haul! I have just input my data on the website and it will be 5th Nov when I get to my goal weight! It reckons I would lose 6lbs in the Attack phase which I need to do for 7 days. hen follows 149 days of perseverence!

I am actually enjoying the oat bran - it is a bit like ready brek as a porridge and I made muffins the other day which were ok. Havent done the pancake yet - saving that one!

Quattrocento · 01/06/2010 21:29

I am hoping that some Dukon 12-steppers can keep me on the straight and narrow

Because right now, I have a picture in my head of my favourite cake - which is a Dorset apple cake, slightly crusty on top, lemony appley bits, served with clotted cream. I think this adds up to a 1000 calories per serving, mostly carbs, but it's truly delicious and all the ingredients are in my kitchen ...

kolacubes · 01/06/2010 21:55

Make it for the kids.

I will be a svelte figure by the end of this diet, but the rest of my family who are currently all skinny runts will need to go on a diet, as anytime I fancy something nice I give it to them.

They are currently loving the fact I'm on a diet.

MrsFawlty · 02/06/2010 08:09

Quattro - don't do it - go and put the flour in the bin!

Ladies, I need help. I started doing (not exactly this diet but it's close enough) last Tuesday. I've lost 7lbs but only 1 lb since Friday.

What's going on, how can I be plateau-ing on this first stage? Do I move on to the next stage or just keep this up? Surely if I've stalled at the first stage the next stage is only going to put weight on me?

Baileysismyfriend · 02/06/2010 10:15

Im going to start this tomorrow, read about it in a magazine and if its good enough for the slim french ladies then its good enough for me!

Have ordered the book but have a couple of questions...

  • can I have Muller light yoguhts?
  • I read that you needed to have a tbs of porridge oats every day is the same as oat bran? [dumb emotion]
  • can you eat cheese or is that a no no along with butter and olive oil?

I have two stone to lose and am sick of different diets, am really hoping this one will work!

insertexpletive · 02/06/2010 11:53

MrsFawlty Are you drinking enough water? I am really bad at this and constantly need to remind myself to sip all day. I would also suggest that you gently increase your exercise - your body is trying to hold onto those calories - make sure that you eat enough, even if your appetite is small. You should find that you have another large ish drop sooner rather than later, when your body gives up trying to fight the weight loss!

Bailey be careful with Muller Light yogs. I think that many have added sugar even though they are fat free.
Not sure about porridge oats, I have oat bran and wheat bran to keep me regular

Welcome to all the other new starters and SuperSoph hope you are feeling better now.

MrsFawlty · 02/06/2010 13:36

I just ate a teeny tiny piece of bread and butter. Oooops.

Wishiwasacat · 02/06/2010 14:17

Hi - Im new to this site so hello everyone.

I started the Dukan Diet the day after it was first published in the Daily Mail. (22nd April i think).

4 weeks later I had lost 11.5 pounds and in that time I "fell off the wagon a couple of times" when I went to a wedding and out for another meal.

Apart from that I have found it reasonably easy. I thought I would get bored quite easily and give up. But as my DH said, it is the first diet I have ever been on that I havent complained and moaned about. For breakfast today, it was two boiled eggs, for lunch prawns with lemon juice and garlic and a Yeo Valley Fat Free organic yoghurt as a snack. I always always drink 2 litres of water a day and apart from that coffee with skimmed milk and no sugar.

I have an under active thyroid and it has been all but impossible to lose weight before this diet. I have since found out that this is probably the most effective diet I could be on.

I hope this is of some assistance and well done everyone who has lost weight
