Hi, I have started the Dukan Diet. Managed to get thru day 1. Anyone else trying it? What do you think ?

apple7, its actually possible to slow down weight loss (well fat loss) by not eating enough. You really never want to go below 1000 calories a day. Your body needs fuel to do everything... including burning fat. So eat up sister... just keep it protein :P

So I finished my attack phase and I lost about 5 lbs. I had my first cruise day which included dinner at my sister in law's to celebrate my father in law's birthday.

I cannot believe how good I was. yes... I did have a glass of wine and a piece of gluten free blueberry flan with icecream... But I avoided the cheese platter and all the stuff served with lunch. So proud of myself and you know, what? I didn't feel deprived at all!!

So proud of myself. I really like this diet. So bloody easy!

PandaBear · 06/09/2010 08:26

Well done to you all for sticking to your diets so well. I have not just fallen off the wagon this weekend.... I took an almighty jump and stayed there Blush. Lots of wine, a couple of bread rolls, some pasta, an Indian Takeaway and chocolate!!! So, I've had my fun (and boy it was lovely!), and now going to get back to being good today. Luckily, no more events planned until weekend of 24th September, when myself and DH have a child free weekend on the Norfolk Broads - would love to be down to a stone weight loss by then!

That is very impressive londonlottie that is almost a stone in three weeks.

I am still on attack, survivied the weekend feeling awfully rubbish today, malnourished just eaten a handful of vitamins hope they help me perk up a bit.
Ds was up in the night so that is prob why I feel so horrid. Determined to doo this till 13th and then will do one day of PV and then two of P and then gradually increase PV days.

apple7 · 06/09/2010 13:25

Love reading all your stories. Thank you for the advice... yesterday was my 10th day in attack, but I gave in last night... and ate zuchini/squash cooked in water a little lemon juice and mustard. And I added some chicken breast... is this ok??? I hope I didn't ruin anything. I was trying to wait and start the next faze when I got home. I believe my book should be at the house by now... I am 145 lb and only 5 foot, so it is a lot on my body... I did eat more yesterday. egg whites, lean steaks, sardines, and then the chicken and veggies I hope that didn't trigger me to eat the veggies. But it was soooo yummy.
Do you all recocommend the 5 days meat 5 day meat and veg or the other ways (2 and 2) or whatever it is???? What gives that fastest results do you know?
Also Not sure if I said this already.. I make the hard boiled eggs and just pop the whites in my mouth. I know such a waste with the yolks. But we have chickens that make a ton... and I ususally feed the cooked yolks to them mixed with other scraps...
Oh and I must say my bathroom experience was wonderful this morn!!!! After 9 days without veggies. I hope I stay regular. sorry to keep bothering you ;)

saltcod · 06/09/2010 14:11

Apple, the Oatbran is supposed to help in the toilet dept ;)

The Dukan book recommends doing 1 day pure protein then the next day protein & veg & then carry on alternating a day at a time. Apparently it gives very similar results to the 5 day PP & 5 day PV schedule but is much easier to follow.

moonshine · 06/09/2010 18:29

Hello all - everyone seems to be sticking to it (mostly) but losing loads - actually I am still very Envy of your losses. Weigh-in day today, I have not had any wine or fallen off the wagon (apart from the odd few slices of salami) and I've still only lost 8lbs in 3 weeks. I know, it's in the right direction but can I just give a big harrumph.

Sorry Lottie, it didn't register in my proteined-up brain that it was your mum staying. Good for you for keeping to the low-carb - I am weak in company and would be quaffing that wine like there's no tomorrow, probably (which is probably one of the reasons why I am eternally overweight - no willpower). And since you went first, I can also confess that I am a daily weigher myself but find it quite useful and comforting actually, despite the gains and unmoving scales.

Can I do a link to another site? Lots of recipes and things you might not know are allowed (or not) among the mad tickers and quotes here which you might find useful.

Katisha · 06/09/2010 21:23

I think I'll come back to that site when I've found my sunglasses Moonshine! Or when I've had a couple of gins...

Anyway - I seem to have well and truly stalled. Scales even read a couple of pounds heavier this morning which I know is water but even so it's dispiriting. So having consulted the book I am going back on attack for a couple of days to see if that makes it shift. And will try to walk more. I thought I might be forced to do a big walk today to get back to the station because of the tube strike, but actually the trains were running... Oh well- I did walk up the escalators...

Have just had some smoked mackerel and remembered that I don't really like it. It stays with you for hours...

dott · 06/09/2010 21:25

Hi all, I felt dreafdul this morning, but still on the attack by the end of today.

I have been feeling a bit down and stopped drinking water, I made myself drink a few litres, had a bath and blow dried my hair and scoffed some more vitamins and feel a helluva lot better.

Like the look of that forum moonshine, I find the dukan threads help me to keep going.

dott · 06/09/2010 21:40

anyone tried .1% actimel drink or yakult lite, getting a bit desperate to keep my guts moving and wondered if these could help along with the brans and the psyllium?

moonshine · 06/09/2010 21:58

Oh yes Katisha, I love smoked mackerel but it is a dish that keeps on 'giving' all day long...

Dott - I have seen Dukan followers recommend 100g - 200g of steamed rhubarb mentioned to help get things moving. Are you also making sure you have regular p+v days?

I'm afraid Actimel always smells of vomit to me so can't help on that one, I'm afraid!

So woke up this morning not weight baring! Eek! HUGE bump on my heel. Went to the doctors and he said I had an infection. I pumiced my foot on Saturday... that is all I can think.

But no working out for a few days. I normally go pretty hard for at least 45 minutes 5 days a week and haven't slowed down at all on this diet (thankfully! I need the endorphins!)

So the man is taking me out on Saturday night for my birthday. I plan on thoroughly enjoying myself and eating cake. The funny part is... I'm not looking forward to the food as much as I would have in the past. Rather more looking forward just to a night out just us! Nice to have this diet also give a bit of perspective :)

dott · 07/09/2010 16:26

Thank you moonshine for the rhubarb suggestion. I will try and get some.
on 2/9 I was 77kg
I weighed myself today 7/9 I am 75.5kg.

I think I was around 79kg when I started this diet on the 30th. Delighted.

Got friends coming round tonight but staying off wine, it always derails me and I eat and then eat again with the hangover.

Selling our house at the moment, it is on the verge of falling through and has been for weeks it very stressful so if gets to exchange then I am having a drink then. Grin

moonshine · 07/09/2010 18:25

Wow another birthday - hope it's a good one Murraycat.

Dott - I would be interested in the, ahem, results if you do try rhubarb. I've never cooked it in my life Shock.

Katisha - are you still 'stuck'?I have been too for the past 4/5 days and it is getting frustrating. I am back to feeling porky and that what I have lost hasn't made much difference to my inch-loss (well not much).

I shall ask my question again - after how much weight loss did your clothes start to feel properly looser?

On the good news front, I have finally started my totm - nearly 3 weeks' late! And it is definitely less painful. I now await the 'swoosh' [hopeful emoticon].

Katisha · 07/09/2010 23:18

Moonshine - I imagine the swoosh will get things moving again!
No - I've been stuck for about a fortnight. V tedious. If nothing happens soon I might try my other (highly illegal) tactic which is to have a right old binge . My theory is that this will stop my body thinking food is scarce and will relax the calorie hoarding.
The only problem is the inevitable carb craving the next day...

MummyBirdthe1st · 07/09/2010 23:20

Hey all

Well I only lost 1lb last week but well it's still a loss :)

Happy Birthday to all the birthday girls :)

Moonshine I would say that my clothes felt looser after about a stone. My ankles and wrists seemed to shrink overnight! lol Then I noticed I wasn't filling my bra so much but the best bit came when I was doing some exercises and jumped and when I landed my trousers fell down :) Good job I was in my living room. lol

I also found that my TOTM came late and that it was less painful than normal. Must be the exercise.

Londonlottie I think I am overdoing the yogurts too. I hae about 3 a day, sometimes 4. Ok so they are the muller light ones, mainly Vanilla but maybe still too many. I might cut out one a day this week and see if that helps.

I'm still motivated which is good.

The thing I am craving most though is cheese and biscuits. Oh just one cracker and Red Leicester drools

Murraythecat · 08/09/2010 07:32

Moonshine, ah... I love that swoosh! Fingers crossed. And hope you feel better!

insertexpletive · 08/09/2010 07:50

Hello everyone - glad to see the thread has been so busy with lots of new starters!

Well, I am now on stage three. I have lost 42 lbs and it is staying off :-)

I was a little Sad to learn that I can only have one celebration meal for the first three months.
I am going to be consolidating for over six months so need to get into new habits that will hopefully last me a lifetime.

I am not doing bread though. Dukan says that I can have two slices per day but I really do not think that I respond well to bread and am managing without, so will try and avoid. It is good to know that I can have a bread roll (wholemeal) when out for a meal though.

I am really enjoying cheese - although I have to say, that even when on Cruise I cheated with cheese every now and again.

Hope you don't mind if I keep checking in every now and again? Good luck and keep at it - it does work!

PandaBear · 08/09/2010 08:34

Hi Everyone well done to you all. Moonshine, my clothes are starting to feel looser now at 9lbs off. I decided that I really should weigh myself this morning, after my dreadful weekend and suprisingly - I've lost 1lb. Must be due to the fact that I was so good on Monday and Tuesday. I've stopped the Muller Light habit after reading everyone's comments - instead I've been eating 0% fat natural fromage frais or 0% fat natural Greek Yoghurt. Doesn't give you the sweet hit, but does really fill you up.

Has anyone else been finding that despite drinking loads of water - they are always thirsty.... especially in the morning???

dott · 08/09/2010 09:59

I had wine last night eek, so feeling dreadful on all fronts. Stuck to the food so far....

But weight was up this morning by one whole kilo, so miffed. Tactic is to drink lost of water and go shopping with dd Grinand stay on the pp
I shall do an extra day of attack that originally planned to put me back on track

I think the yakult and actimel might be helping my guts. Not got any rhubarb yet moonshine.

Panda yes I feel very thirstly, the more water I drink it fuels the thirst, wheras if I drink crap then I don't feel thirstly but feel wretched.

dott · 08/09/2010 09:59

insertexpletive it is really good to hear from veterans - can you summarise your experience and give any tips of what worked for you etc.... and how you dealt with blips
thanks

Katisha · 08/09/2010 10:04

Hi insertexpletive - I was hoping you'd come back as we need to know how how it all goes on the next stage!
It's so hard to get the last half stone off in the weight loss phase that I am worried that moving up to the consolidation phase means it will all creep back up again!

saltcod · 08/09/2010 10:10

Another one here who's always thirsty!

saltcod · 08/09/2010 10:19

Feeling very virtuous this morning coz I was given a big box of fudge for my birthday which I've brought into work to stop me eating it (I don't even particularly like fudge but the sugar cravings are easy to give into if there's anything available in the house!). Made the egg custard last night & scoffed 2 of them! Some great recipes on that site that Moonshine recommended.
