Thanks for the wine info - and for being such a welcoming crowd.

Feeling better still, day 5 of attack. I have decided to stay on attack until Monday 13th.

I think when I do the veg days i will not have the quark/yoghurt.

saltcod · 03/09/2010 21:16

Thanks for the birthday wishes... just hope I don't get given any chocolate goodies! Happy birthday to you to Kittya :)

I have no craving for wine luckily, and managed to dish out the birthday cake to everyone this evening without wolfing down a slice myself!

Dott, I take my hat off to you for planning on doing the attack phase until the 13th - that's amazing willpower. I am SO sick of meat after just 5 days. Hoping that my 30 day shred dvd will arrive tomorrow so that I can see some faster results!

Katisha · 03/09/2010 21:53

Yes Happy Birthday to Saltcod and Kittya!

Lottie I saw a Movenpick stall in Tottenham Court Rd today and thought of you!

Moonshine when I first lost weight low carbing I ended up doing several pregnancy tests but eventually worked out what was going on! It's a pain when you don't know when totm is going to be though as Dukan makes such a big deal about how you retain water in the run up and then lose it mightily afterwards. I would love a nice big sudden loss of pounds but am more or less reconciled to it slowly creeping as I try to get the last half stone off.

And I have established that my scales are probably accurate after all so that's good.

dott · 03/09/2010 22:11

saltcod, many happy returns to you, but don't take your hat off yet I may well fall off the wagon and into a gutter full of pies before then Grin

Morning everyone! Gosh, some of you are early risers Shock

Well, despite saying I was going to stay away from the scales due to the illicit birthday cake, I couldn't resist seeing the damage this morning. But hey, once I'd stripped off the PJ's (they weigh over 1lb!!!) I managed to force the scales down to a 0.2lb loss... yay!

So, it's a protein day today plus my 30 day shred dvd has arrived so will attempt that today. Also going to walk to town and back as I haven't managed to fit in the 20-30 mins walking most days and I really could do with stepping up the exercise. I used to be able to drop 1 - 2 stone in a couple of months just by hitting the gym 3 times a week (mostly running & bodypump) and still eat tonnes of crap, but those days seem to have sadly gone... an "age" thing apparently.

Also need to stock up on yet more meat. Think I'll try a steak today plus am going to make the ducan meatloaf - has anyone tried it?

Hope everyone has a good weekend & stays on the straight and narrow. I have a birthday party to go to this evening but (luckily Hmm) I'm driving so can stick to diet coke!

Hi there! Just new here just heard abput this diet... I am needing some advice. I have been on it for 6 days... Waiting for my book to come from amazon.com. I am eating mainly egg whites, extra lean turkey and sardines. I am wondering if it is possible to eat too little? I am really trying to lose weight fast so I have been doing portion control. Maybe 600-900 cals a day. Does the book talk about calories at all? Could that be stalling my wieght? I mean I think I am losing weight but I don;t want to do anything wrong. Walking, jogging, and boking also. Do they say not to exercise too much??? Sorry to bother you all... seems like you are all doing great!!! Also I don;t have oat bran, do t you think that makes a big difference??? I have pyllium husks, would that work instead?? I just don;t know how much too eat... I don;t want to eat too much?!?!!

apple7 · 04/09/2010 14:23

Oh and before starting this I was doing atkins... I gained weight. I don't think I do well with fatty foods. I hope I hope this works!!!! And I am drinking tons'O' water too. And I haven't had dairy yet... is that important for weightloss???

Katisha · 04/09/2010 16:05

I don't know apple, but it does sound like you are maybe not eating enough. You don't need to be quite so drastic as crash dieting is not generally thought to be very successful in the long run.
The dairy is not compulsory but it helps us all get through. And it's something to put the bran in, which Dukan is pretty adamanat that you DO need. You can get it in supermarkets by the porridge or in health food shops.
Maybe you should think about taking some vitamins, and eating whole eggs not just egg white etc. This diet really does work if you follow it - I wouldn't try to do some extreme version of it as I think it could backfire on you.

moonshine · 04/09/2010 16:11

Hi and welcome Apple7. I'm no expert but here's my tuppence worth: I think you are eating too little - eating only 600-900 calories a day will leave you with little energy, probably sap your will to carry on with the diet for long and probably put your body into starvation mode so that it will hang on to every little calorie you put in after a while. Dukan says you can eat as much as you like from the approved list ie most lean meats, all fish and seafood, fat-free yoghurt (just check it's carb count isn't high), fat-free cottage cheese (I have low-fat - not sure if fat-free actually exists), eggs and milk. After doing just these foods for 2-5 days alternate the above with days with veg. Eat the oat bran - it helps fill you up and keep you regular (sort of). Weightloss will be quite steady but not spectacular after the first week/10 days but continuous. Dukan also recommends at least 20 miutes walking every day and not using lifts or stairs ever. Good luck.

Oh yes I must admit I am waiting for the post-totm 'swoosh' but I imagine it won't happen.

Lottie - do you not want to tell mil about being on the diet (I can understand why as I haven't told anyone yet)? Lots of meat and 2 veg-type dishes and just discreetly pass on the carb portion? Can you stomach buy some alcohol-free wine? Or just tell a half-truth that you want to cut down for a couple of months or so in anticipation of all the Christmas excess?

I have had my hair cut today so feel better in a different way. Weight loss still slooooooow but at least I am not doing my usual thing of losing and putting on the same 2lbs every week. And still no alcohol [polishes halo]. Just got to grit my teeth and get through a Saturday night in with dh quaffing away while I nurse a can of coke zero....

apple7 · 04/09/2010 19:49

thanks gals! I ate a steak for lunch today!1/2 a pound... I could have eaten more though... I think. I am saving the other 1/2 for dinner. Yummmmm... Maybe I will try to relax and enjoy more food. i thought you were only aloud the egg whites cause the yolk has fat and carbs??? I am just afraid I might overeat.I am an all or nothing kinda person. So it's either restricted or all out extremes. I am trying to control it though.. I am gona go get the oatbran today! I can't wait to get this fat off my body I have been carrying since the birth of my son... that was 10 years ago!!!!!! Oh and I am taking a multivitamin and extra biotin, don't want to lose my hair!

MummyBirdthe1st · 04/09/2010 22:26

No you are allowed 2 eggs (yolk included) a day unless you have problems with cholesteral then you should only have 4 a week.

You definitely should eat more. the less food you have the more your body will fight it and keep hold of the fat.

I eat quite a bit but only when hungry and only until I am full and I never skip a meal as that is when I find I get into trouble. Just ensure you drink loads of water and do the walking and hopefully, like me, you will find it falls off. I also have 3 sometimes more muller light yogurts a day, as well as fat free natura yogurt I use for cooking. Also think about getting Quark, fat free soft cheese.

Saltcod what is the 30 day shred dvd?
I have Just Dance on the Wii and also Personal Trainer Dance Workout, now that is funny. It is mainly latin dance, I manage about 4 steps then fall over Grin

MummyBirdthe1st · 04/09/2010 22:30

Oh and forgot to say.

Sorry but I have sinned Shock I have just given in to a bag of McCoys that was shouting me from the cupboard. Hangs head in shame Damn my brother for leaving them here Sad
But so what I really enjoyed them :). I will just do an extra 10 -15 minutes on Just Dance tomorrow to work them off.

dott · 04/09/2010 22:35

Heloo dukanners I am still doing the attack phase. I find the weekend more difficult but still on the wagon.

kittya · 04/09/2010 23:27

the weekend its awful. Ive decided that I cant do it now until Tuesday. Birthday Monday and I would be kidding myself if I said I wasnt going to drink and eat besides. Diets do ruin your social life!! but, Im going to be careful until then. My friend has cancelled lunch tomorrow and Im releived to be honest.

apple7 · 05/09/2010 12:58

Love all this info! Thank you! Today I am gona eat as much as I want. I hope. Yesterday I hade 10 egg whites, and 1 big steak that weighed a pound. But maybe I will eat more!??!?! I want yogurt but, I don't think we have mullers... I am in the U.S., are you? We have 0% fat greek yogurt is that what Muller is? I am away in the mountains too, yup I started this on vaca! Home tomorrow thought I think so soon I am gona get some yogurt yummmm! Super markets are too far from where we are.... SO no one weighs how much they eat? like the meat? 1 or 2 ounds or more?? I am still afraid of over eating but today I will enjoy!

saltcod · 05/09/2010 14:14

Damn it! Another sliver of birthday cake has just forced itself past my lips Shock.

Birthday roast tonight & apparently it's cheesecake for dessert. Gonna forget the diet for 1 evening, I'm afraid!

saltcod · 05/09/2010 14:15

Apple 10 egg whites??? What do you do with all the egg yolks... throw them away?

Katisha · 05/09/2010 15:50

Apple how much do you have to lose?
Really I doubt there's any need to do all this egg white only stuff!
Get the book and go from there.

dott · 05/09/2010 17:04

I am still on attack and it it is going well. but pleased the weekend is over as I find them more difficult.

Any suggestions for interesting attack recipies?

Katisha · 05/09/2010 17:30

Some recipes here although I don't bother - I just eat plain hunks of meat and fish! Anything that needs a lot of special cooking is out for me, and I certainly can't be doing with all those variations on egg custard puddings...

dott · 05/09/2010 18:58
