Hi, I have started the Dukan Diet. Managed to get thru day 1. Anyone else trying it? What do you think ?

CarTrouble · 21/07/2010 00:17

Hi all

am on day 2 of Dukan and so far so good. can anyone shed any light on 0% dairy? I've found the yoghurts but having no luck with cottage cheese - best I can find is 2%, good enough or does it have to be 0%, and if so where can I get it?

and what's the deal with low fat ham? I've just been getting "lean ham" in a packet but the stuff I've got (sainsburys and M&S) has a small amount of sugar in it - is this ok and if not then what?

got quite a lot to lose and not sure that I'm going to Dukan all the way so to speak but certainly going to try and stick with it for the first couple of stone

shortandsweet2 · 21/07/2010 09:40

Sue are you allowed those brownies on the attack phase?

I spent £20 on meat and fish last night and think it will only last 2 or 3 days and thats just for me. Think I will have to stock up on the cheaper meat like ham.

Katisha · 21/07/2010 10:02

The attack phase is protein only plus the no-fat yoghurts and bran. I would have thought the brownies would be for the 3rd consolidation phase.

(Thanks for the recipe Sue - wonder how horrible they would be without the dreaded aspartame)

I never found any 0% fat cottage cheese either, but the general low fat stuff doesn't seem to have stopped the diet working.

sue41 · 21/07/2010 14:36

Hi, my understanding is the brownies can be had in the cruise stage - you are allowed 1 tbsp of Cocoa and the rest of the ingrediants are allowed too. Another site uses the same recipe but cooks in the microwave for 4 minutes. When I make them at home I add three tablespoons oatbran and use an extra egg - cook in the microwave for 5 minutes (bit dry when cold, but quite nice hot served with some low fat yogurt).

For Ham I am getting into the habit of checkng the label and always try for v. low fat, there seems to be quite a difference from one product to another!!

Good luck,

Sue

shortandsweet2 · 21/07/2010 15:53

Thanks for that ladies.

Was looking at the ham today and it all had salt added. Grrrr

Katisha · 21/07/2010 16:08

To be honest shortandsweet I don't think it will affect the diet.
Dukan is anti-pork products in the early stages but I have been merrily scoffing sausages and lost a stone.

Yeah OK I would have lost 2 stone if I hadn't...

Turniphead1 · 21/07/2010 17:06

Hi all. Can I join you? Just signed up to the website. Have just over a stone to lose and more importantly want it to stay off. My weight goes all round my tummy and am sick of looking pg. Waiting for some email to come from some french people to tell me what to do - but I get the general gist!
I was ny skinniest ever for my wedding 10 years and 3 children ago - and that was via Atkins. But I read with interest someone (insertexpletive?? not sure) comment that your body becomes wise to low-carb.
Anyway, both DH and I need to lose weight so hopefully this will work. I am also going to try combining this with Paul McKenna as I think his are good eating habits.

Katisha · 21/07/2010 17:15

It could have been me, Turniphead, who thinks that her body has got wise to low-carb. My last crack at Atkins before Christmas was awfully slow. But this has got much quicker results and I have got a lot further. It took a bit of getting used to what with being low fat as well as low carb but what the heck - it's working.

Another stone to go tra-la.

I would advise buying the book.

SnowieBear · 22/07/2010 12:37

SpanishHarlot, I'm sure I'll find suitable food on hols - problem will be my mum asking me at every meal why I cannot eat a bit of this or that .

My "stagnation" last week was all down to my completely unexpected period... Finished 10 days on Attack yesterday and the scales today show I've lost 7lbs! I'm keeping at it for a couple more days before moving onto Cruise.

Discovered hot smoked salmon loins - absolutely delicious, vac packed for the office, can be eaten hot or cold.

Turniphead1 · 22/07/2010 13:37

well done snowiebear. 7lbs - wow!
Katisha - yes, that's right it was you. Bought the book today - it's good (although like the website, i think some of the translation is slightly odd).
I would love to know of anyone who has done the Consolidation phase and kept the weight off? I guess you have to go on the actual Dukan forum to find such people - and they are probably all French!

Day 1 for me. My tummy is VERY upset. Not sure why...

SnowieBear · 22/07/2010 16:57

Ta, Turniphead, extremely chuffed today . Mind you, 1 1/2 stone to go...

shortandsweet2 · 22/07/2010 18:04

Wow thats fantastic snowie. Everyone is doing so well.

I am on day 2 and would love some tomatoes

Not been too bad, was down 3lb this morning

insertexpletive · 22/07/2010 20:38

Hi Turniphead!

Try not to worry too much about the tummy trouble - I have had this a few times in the last 12 weeks or so, never lasts more than 24 hours - not sure what causes it though as I had expected to have the opposite problem iyswim

I am going to do another weigh-in tomorrow, but think I have now lost 2 1/2 stone - only 7 lbs more to go

Fidget32 · 24/07/2010 09:51

Hello eveyone..

Been on this diet 3 weeks and 4 days and lost just over a stone. I feel alot slimmer, and even at this weight feel quite good!

I've not lost any weight for the last 4 days which is a bit disheartning as its not even approaching time of the month! I've not cheated, not once. When i think of the massive reduction in calories to pre-diet on food alone, and then take account of the fact i've not touched a drop of alchohol which must of accounted for a hell of lot of calories pre-diet, i feel it should be dropping off!

But hey ho, I am still just as determined, I feel alot healthier, am excersising everyday, and sleeping the best i've done for years. Actually waking up before the alarm (and kids), seems a normal thing, but this is the first time i've achieved this in my 32 years ha ha.

My first waking thought eachday remains 'have I lost a lb today' before jumping out of bed and rushing for the scales!

I've got 7lbs to go before i am not 'officially' overweight (1st goal). A stone and a half to get to the lowest weight Dukan thinks I should be (2nd goal), and an extra 7lbs to get to a weight i've achieved before and when felt the happiest with my body (3rd goal). Breaking it up into these goals seems easier, I suppose goal 4 (the most important) is to keep it off.

Anyway, apologies for the rant, my way of keeping myself motivated!

Katisha · 24/07/2010 11:01

Hi Fidget - good going!

this is on the FAQ about "stagnation" on the Dukan website :

"...losing weight as quick as you did means your body has to stop in its track for a short while in order to adjust to the weight loss process. Your body doesn't like to see its reserves melting and it takes it some time to adapt. Believe me, this stagnation occurs in every diet, especially when the weight loss is fast, but I assure you the weight will keep dropping at about 2 pounds a week now. Keep at it ... make sure you exercise and if you can push yourself that little bit more, it will help you go onto a new threshold faster."

Fidget32 · 24/07/2010 11:31

Hi Katisha thanks for that! Its put my mind at rest, be interesting to see if i lose 2 lb in the 3 days left before weigh in recording date lol!

Did you sign up to the website, i nearly did but the price put me off as you cant trial it and see if its worth it first! plus i think there missing a trick, if it was broken down and paid weekly it wouldnt sound so bad, and you could cancel if not happy!

Katisha · 24/07/2010 12:54

No haven't signed up - don't see the point in paying for it - I have the book.
I don't want online coaching or anything like that.

Fidget32 · 24/07/2010 13:13

Yeah same here, intrigued to know if its worth the money though!

Whats everyone taking for work on PP days, I feel like a wierdo keep taking slices of meat, even started putting it on a bed of lettuce and just not eating it lol!

insertexpletive · 24/07/2010 13:30

Hi everyone

fidget I just have slices of meat - true, it feels weird, but I don't think anyone really cares.
I also have m&s hot smoked salmon flakes - 3 packs are £5 so with one a day, I actually save money at lunch time (It is the only part of the diet that is cheap though, as my food bills seem to have increased)

I have now hit the 2 1/2 stone mark! I am so thrilled
I would like to lose at least another 12lbs. I have done the 'true weight' thing twice on the website, the first time it said that I would need to lose just 6lbs more, the second time it has agreed with my target, so not sure how that works

I have not signed up for the coaching thing either, does not seem worth it to me, but I was into the swing of the diet before the website was up and running, if I was starting now I might be tempted.

I am a little worried that I have a long holiday coming up over the summer and the temptation to fall off the wagon and eat rubbish with the kids is going to be hard to resist.

Hope everyone has a guilt free weekend!

Katisha · 24/07/2010 13:40

That's what I do as well - get those 3 for £5 M&S packs and eat 'em out of the pack. Chicken, salmon, ham sometimes. No-one bats an eyelid.

Sometimes I take in those £1 packs of thin ham/chicken from Tesco. I tend to ignore Dukan on the ham/pork issue!

shortandsweet2 · 24/07/2010 17:21

Well done on getting to 2.5st insert.

Has anyone tried the dukan bread? whats its like? Really craving chocolate so might make the brownies to stop myself eating anything bad.

Plus are we allowed onions and gerkins on PP as some of the recipes have these and they say they are for PP days.

Fidget32 · 24/07/2010 19:26

Onions and gherkins are allowed for cooking!

Just made the chilli that someone on here recomended.... mmm was lovely! thanks whoever it was!

Well done insert on the 2.5, hope i get there one day soon.. thats if I move from this frustrating plateau!

Fidget32 · 25/07/2010 10:00

Lost a pound this morning......YAY! ...blows a rasberry at the plateau!

SnowieBear · 26/07/2010 12:31

Gosh, ladies, you are all doing SO well! Big, big congrats to you all, you deserve a medal! Well done, Fidget, plateau has been truly plateaud!

The M&S packs are brill - they also do a prawn one that I reserve as a starter for dinner, just lightly grilled with half of my spice rack sprinkled on top.

Ended up doing 12 days attack and started on Cruise this Saturday. Weighed myself this morning and total loss is 10lbs in two weeks. I've got a waist again and I'm delighted!

sue41 · 26/07/2010 15:11

Had a bad weekend, a quarter of a chicken kiev, a glass of white wine and a chocolate muffin and a croissant!! Back on track today.

Shortandsweet, the bread is quick and easy and tastes like bread!! I use the recipe from www.mydukandiet.com which uses yeast instead of baking soda, it looks a bit pale but tastes like proper bread and if toasted is nice with scrambled eggs or just some philly extra light and ham....

For lunch at work my favourite is cottage cheese and either prawns or salmon fillet - it looks like a meal and the only comments I get are "that looks good" and 'that looks healthy' - one or two of the girls here are even adding cottage cheese and prawns to their salads (on on a PV day I can do the same!!).

Good luck all - I so envious of insertexpletive, i've lost 2 stone in three months but it is now so incredibly slow....and I still have another 3 stone to lose.....
