Hi, I have started the Dukan Diet. Managed to get thru day 1. Anyone else trying it? What do you think ?

Thanks BIWI.

Nancy66 · 07/07/2010 07:23

Is there any reason why you can't have a skinny latte on this diet?

itstimmytime · 07/07/2010 08:01

I have Nancy - no caffeine restriction. Maybe a small one tho?

Can anyone inspire me to get back on track pls? I lost 21 lbs since May 26 then last week, I decided to grant myself a week off until after my pal's hen night. Cue a week of not sticking to Dukan even loosely, loads of carbs/alcohol/crap. Have had two consecutive days when I have done well on attack all day (thought I'd do a few days of attack then back on cruise) but I seem to have lost my willpower come the evening and I have ended up having toast/cereal etc.

Any tips on getting my momentum back - still have 1.5 st to go!

BecauseImWorthIt · 07/07/2010 08:25

itstimmytime - it's hard, isnt it?! Best tip I've even been given about motivation is 'just do it'.

Sounds less than helpful, but actually, it's what you have to do.

Why don't you make your plan for whatever you're going to do over the next few days, but make sure that you're eating really tasty stuff - so it doesn't feel like deprivation?

My weekend cost me 2lbs (after 2 days on attack!), so it wasn't good.

But I'm still down, overall, so shall carry on.

Miggsie · 07/07/2010 11:01

Get back on track!

It DOES work, DH joned me on the diet and has lost 8kg so far.

I find in the evenings I think about food as I'm bored sitting in front of the the TV, so started knitting or doing a jigsaw. It cuts down the urge to snack.

However, when I'm eating my yoghurt and oatbran in the morning I do get a little dip in my motivation!

Off to eat entire bag of prawns....

BecauseImWorthIt · 07/07/2010 11:04

Yes, I'm finding I'm looking at my bag of oatbran with increasing loathing!

MarshaBrady · 07/07/2010 11:05

I'm not doing oatbran.. Off-piste! I seem to be still ummm functioning ok.

Katisha · 07/07/2010 11:52

Itstimmytime - this is what I think (and there may be no scientific basis for it) - when I repeatedly went back to low carb, it would get slower and harder each time. I have a lot of sympathy with the view that there is a basically one "golden shot" with this and that after that your body wises up to you.

As Dukan is working so unexpectedly well in the light of this, I intend to get to my target weight before starting to faff about with it too much (although remains to be seen what I do when on holiday in a few weeks.) But I don't want to accustomise my system to this diet by stopping and starting repeatedly in the way it seems to have got slightly resistant to low-carb.

So come on - get back on the wagon!

itstimmytime · 07/07/2010 19:59

Thanks for the support folks. Had a disastrous portion of chips tonight - partner on lates, kids a pita and I just went on autopilot til I ate them. Tomorrow is a new day. ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK! I will be 1 stone lighter for my pal's weddin in mid Aug! Oh, and I suppose I'd better weigh in too

Thanks again. I will be back this time tomorrow to let youkknow how good I have been

Fidget32 · 07/07/2010 21:27

Hi- I did the attack stage for 5 days and lost 8lb in 4 days, have stayed the same weight since, am on 4th day of PP/PV, has anyone had similar problem? Have stuck to it rigidly!! even resisted alcohol!!!

Katisha · 07/07/2010 21:33

Stick at it Fidget - it will shift eventually. You can't really keep up that sort of weight loss - and most of it will be water loss to start with. It's generally considered good to be losing no more than 2 or 3 pounds a week if you want to keep it off.

Fidget32 · 07/07/2010 21:39

Yeah good advice, thank you, have always been too impatient for my own good! Wrong time of month too, so that may be contributing!

Fidget32 · 07/07/2010 22:00

For anyone new like me, i'd recommend my 2 new best friends, Onken Fat Free Natural Yoghurt and Garlic. Mixed together with chives makes a great dip, drizzle over a salad for PV days, or esp nice with homemade beefburgers-

Lean Mince
Small onion
Chillies
Cayenne Pepper
Onion Salt
Egg to bind

Nice for BBQ season

Or mix garlic yoghurt and loads of pepper, warm gently and pour over steak

My spice rack has undertaken a radical makeover, i've discovered you can make anything tasty!

WildistheWind · 08/07/2010 13:11

Fidget you might be right about the time of the month, I started Attack on the first day of my period and I didn't lose anything for 4 days. I have lost a few pounds 1 week into the program but only for the last 2-3 days!

Loving yogurt at the moment, also been using Fromage Frais and mustard to make sauce and dips, really nice!

Fidget32 · 08/07/2010 22:10

Will have to give that one a go!

Sounds like it defo has an impact then, a few pounds in the last few days is really good, bet you will notice a difference next couple of days too

I had a breakthrough this morning lost a 1lb, and after a long night in a&e (son broke his finger), I managed the drive home with a bag of chips on my lap for everyone elses tea. It was torture but I resisted!

SpanishHarlot · 10/07/2010 10:42

Into my second week of cruise and not finding it too bad. Problem is I am crap at making the pancakes it turns out sort of pancakey (is that a word?) and sort oflike an omelette.

Tastes ok with a yoghurt on top though and feels nice to have something carb like.

Have now lost 7lbs so really pleased and clothes are feeling easier to wear.

Only problem is that DH gets more frisky the more weight I lose so not getting much sleep, don't know if it is better to be fat and get sleep or skinny and tired...ha ha

Fidget32 · 10/07/2010 11:05

Ha ha that made me smile! Well done on the 7lbs.

I tried the pancake, it tasted like it had been used to pick up crumbs off the floor!

I've lost 10lbs now, just about managaing to watch my partner and 3 kids stuffing their faces with anything. Alcohol at the weekends has been the biggest struggle, especially last night I must have read about 20 different articles trying to find one that said vodka would be ok, but of course none did, so i resisted. Am I sad or what!

WildistheWind · 11/07/2010 13:51

Completely fell off the wagon yesterday, we had a evening with friends, sushis, lots and lots of wine . Not very proud.

Getting back into PP for a couple of days now. I did start quite well as I had a galette and yogurt in the morning...but after a glass of wine it all went out the window.

Oh well...

Fidget, Vodka and Slimline Tonic isn't so bad.

insertexpletive · 12/07/2010 09:28

Hello everyone - hope your resolve was better than mine this weekend...

I am now 10 weeks into this diet and have lost 30lbs. I feel so much better in myself, although I have a feeling that the last stone will be harder to shift.

I had a look at the Dukan website and was disappointed to see that you are only allowed 4 sugar free sweets a day - have had more than this most days so need to cut back.

The biggest revelation for me has been drinking water - I have known for years that I do not drink enough as I never feel thirsty. But, now I am making myself have plenty of water as I do not want to have kidney damage a result of this diet and feel so much better - good skin and more energy.

I also have to confess that I have not tried the oatbran pancakes yet - I stick my oat and wheat bran in yoghurt. I may have to give the pancakes a go though, just to see what I am missing out on.

Have a great week everyone.

SpanishHarlot · 12/07/2010 10:24

Hi Fidget32

I'm glad it's not just me who cant make the pancake look like those in the pictures.

DH home today because of late night last night watching Spain win. The whole country went mad and lack of sleep is really killing me at the moment.

Had egg and bacon this morning, can't face doing the Wii exercises but have to face the hoovering so that will have to do today.

Got ambushed by a plate of chips last night, force fed and then made me wash them down with a small beer. Cloud of guilt hanging over me today so back on meat and yoghurts for a couple of days with a couple of sawdust pancakes thrown in for good measure

Keep going everyone!!!

Katisha · 12/07/2010 12:33

I positively LIKE the pancakes now! Making them with two eggs does the trick for me. I have it with cottage cheese.

I have hit a bit of stagnation for the last 4 or 5 days. Scales have gone the wrong way by a couple of pounds. But I am not too worried as I know it's water retention - can't possibly be anything else the amount I am eating!! But it's annoying as I was about to hit the one stone mark and now haven't yet!

SpanishHarlot · 12/07/2010 20:43

oh no....got attacked by four chunks of chocolate....

was really good today too..must make sure I have more grabby bits to eat in the fridge so that it wont happen again.

have lost 7lbs now but must keep going!!!!!

Fidget32 · 12/07/2010 20:50

Must have been a good night in your house then SpanishHarlot, i'm off to spain in August, kids now want to go and see the world cup! Looking forward to it, not too worried about the food because we are staying in a Villa so I'll be in control as long as I learn Fat Free in spanish! It's the booze im more concerned about, been tee total since the diet, have never tried an alchohol free holiday before!

I've given up on the sawdust pancakes, am having it as a topping on yoghurt, its looks like an upside down cheesecake, it tastes like yoghurt and sawdust ha ha. Had a chicken breast wrapped in weightwatchers bacon tonight, that was nice!

Well done on the 301bs insertexpletive thats some going, helps to keep my motivation up seeing how well other people are going!

Katisha-Water retention is a pain in the A**, i've noticed if I wake up twice in the night to go loo i'm usually a pound lighter than if i go once, I did contemplate setting my alarm but then figured that was just crazy ha ha

SnowieBear · 13/07/2010 12:56

Hi, may I join in?

I read the thread and the book over the weekend - I was really inspired by all of you ladies!

I've got a couple of stone to lose and really wanted a programme that was going to produce quick, solid results that I should be able to maintain. So... after my first day of Attack yesterday, I could not believe it this morning! I've lost 3 pounds . I was honestly hoping for 1, maybe 2... this is a great, encouraging start!

Absolutely over the moon, went and woke up DH to tell him and couldn't wait till lunch break at work to log into MN and share it with you .

Really enjoyed my food yesterday, did not feel hungry and OK on energy levels... let's see what happens, but right now it is my idea of heaven to have a slice of smoked salmon with scrambled egg for breakfast.

SnowieBear · 13/07/2010 12:57

Fidget32 - Fat Free in Spanish is "sin grasa".
