Hi, I have started the Dukan Diet. Managed to get thru day 1. Anyone else trying it? What do you think ?

OP posts:
SpanishHarlot · 03/07/2010 22:13

Well what a day! a couple of times I felt like I could do with a choc fix (am due on) but instead had a yoghurt and it seems to hit the spot.

Had a lovely steak tonight, didn't need anything else, really filled me up. Not missing the chips at all.

Tried to make porridge with the oat bran this morning, total failure! think need less milk but it didn't puff up like normal oats so not sure what to expect. Normally I like the taste of bran but this doesn't seem to taste of anything so bit dissapointed.

Definately better to put it in the yoghurt.

First day of Stage 2 tomorrow so at least can add some veg or salad. Very like the Atkins in that respect.

Keep going girls, it will be worth it

SpanishHarlot · 03/07/2010 22:16

Recipe idea

Here in Spain you can get big and little tubs of a solid no fat cheese, it has no taste on its own but is good with seasoning so had 1 small tub chopped up with 2 small slices of serrano ham and 1 slice of normal ham. Very tasty and the different textures were nice.

BecauseImWorthIt · 04/07/2010 11:38

I have had my weekend 'off' - food has been OK-ish, reasonably low carb - but lots of champagne/wine, which wasn't so good!

I'm going to do another three days of attack from tomorrow, to 'undo' some of the damage (I don't want to weigh myself to see how much I've put back on!), but I'm not really looking forward to it.

I enjoyed the galette the first three days, but couldn't stand the idea of it on day 4. Think I'll try adding the oatbran to yoghurt instead.

I made a really (surprisingly) tasty chicken curry:

One cooked chicken breast, diced
1/3 small onion, finely diced
juice of 1/8 - 1/4 lemon
soy sauce
curry powder

Put a few drops of olive oil into a small frying pan, then wipe the pan with kitchen paper
Heat, and then fry the onion and chicken till the onion is softening, season with black pepper and add a good shake of curry powder, then a sloosh (technical term!) of soy sauce.

Turn the heat down and simmer for 5 minutes.

It's sort of like a Chinese curry because of the soy sauce.

SpanishHarlot · 04/07/2010 18:40

your curry idea sounds nice, I usually stir fry my chicken with a "sloosh" of soy sauce too it tastes really nice.

Also very good for when you make chicken kebabs for the BBQ.

Started on 2nd phase today so could have salad with my chicken for lunch which was very nice.

It's amazing how nice everything tastes its as though your taste buds have come to life!!

stomache getting nice and flat, no more pain at night from bloating and water retention less too.

Roll on summer in the bikini !!!! i wont be the fat one in all the piccies this year

Katisha · 04/07/2010 20:01

I'm finding it quite hard to rigidly alternate between veg and no veg days. Esp at weekend. I seem to have had 3 semi or full on veg days in a row - will try to have at least 2 protein only days now , but it's quite an erratic pattern. I suppose if you keep a general tally it'll pan out in the end.

Danthe4th · 04/07/2010 21:59

I've bought the book and think this should work for me, I want to lose 1 stone.
But what can I replace the oatbran with as i'm coeliac and can't tolerate it. Do you have to have it??

SrStanislaus · 04/07/2010 22:25

Im certainly not doing it by the book.

I adapt to suit myself but adhere to the mainly protein principle .
I dont know how I managed to ignore what I intuitively knew for so long but I am so happy now that I eat protein as a main event rather than a small accompaniment . As an ex carboholic I can definitely say that I have not been hungry(and I mean that horrible stomach inside-out type of 'hunger')and I actually eat relatively little.

Just do what seems right for yourself -stick to mainly protein and whatever means of roughage you choose. I think that as long as it isnt a huge proportion of your daily intake you will be fine.

Happy losing

SpanishHarlot · 05/07/2010 10:24

tried to cook the pancake thingy again today came out ok but doesn't look like the pictures on their web site. Was ok but a bit bland so had it with a strawberry flavoured yoghurt on and it was ok.

Very filling, still loving the fact that belly doesn't hurt at night from bloating and is nice and flat (still too much of it though)

Looking forward to breaking through the 13 st mark and getting into the 12 st somethings. Want to get down to 12st this time and not stop at 12 1/2 like i normally do that way can fluctuate up to 12 1/2 if lapsing but not up to 13 again.

Katisha · 05/07/2010 10:31

Re the pancake i made it this morning with 2 eggs and not the usual one. Came out much more like an omelette and didn't all break up. I like them better savoury - some tuna stops it being bland. Tuna and cottage cheese seems a good combination.

SpanishHarlot · 05/07/2010 10:36

thanks, think i will try a savoury one tomorrow. Not sure about tuna just dont like it hot. everyone raves about tuna pasta bakes but just cant like it although like it cold..weird huh!

Katisha · 05/07/2010 10:40

Well it's hardly hot as it's fried so quickly really. And you could always just tip it on the pancake after you have made it.

well after a good start - loss of 10lbs - i kinda fell off the wagon and a day or two off the diet turned very quickly into a week or two off!!

am still half a stone down though and now starting afresh - am hoping to lose at least another half a stone before i go holiday on the 18th - fingers crossed.

very, very, very well done to all of you who have stuck to it - you are inspiring me to carry on!

WildistheWind · 05/07/2010 18:52

Day 5 and lost only 2 pounds so far...I'm looking forward to my veggies tomorrow!

Showmeheaven · 05/07/2010 21:41

Hi everyone, i love the control i have over food now. I'm no longer a raving foodaholic. Sometimes i nearly have to force myself to eat. Instead of gobbling down everything in sight, I'm easily put off food now. This must be how slim people live and it feels great

It has made me realise how damaging carbs must be. They increase the appetite and cause a constant craving for more sugar, a vicious cycle. I always suspected it but doing this diet has really proved it to me. I wasn't the problem, it was the type of food I was eating.

My BIL is French and the principles of this diet are very similar to the way his family eat (obviously as the diet was created by a French doctor). When BIL's sisters come over to visit I was always amazed by what they ate and how they looked. They would eat a huge steak (rare!) with some salad for dinner, I noticed they wouldn't touch the bread on the table. They would have some cheese after their meal. They would then have a yogurt for dessert. Very much like this diet.

BIL has lived here for years and pretty much eats like we eat, but when his family are visiting he reverts to the French way of cooking/eating to suit his family.

BIL's two sisters look amazing. They have gorgeous figures with not an ounce of fat. They never have to diet, they eat well but never worry about putting on weight. They don't eat sweets/crips/chocolate like we do.

The French have it figured out, Dukan is the way to go

MarshaBrady · 06/07/2010 09:22

Completely agree ShowmeH.

And the whole diet industry based on carbs and low-fat is pretty bad for the figure. Carbs are good if you are a seventeen year old boy and exercising (high long term energy).

But most 30+ year olds don't need so much. It's interesting as you have to relearn how to eat, not in accordance with that food pyramid they show you at school.

SpanishHarlot · 06/07/2010 10:28

good point Katisha I could do that rather than mix it in that way wont feel like I am eating cat food.

Went to the beach yesterday and took a tub with salad chicken and tuna in it instead of grabbing burger and chips and was strangely satisfied even DH enjoyed it.

wasn't hungry until late evening then had chicken stirfried with soy sause, balsamic and some sweet chilli sauce. was lovely.

felt really full so imagine my surprise this morning when found out i had lost another 1lb

that makes 6lbs in 6 days...yayyyyyy

wendygirl72 · 06/07/2010 10:46

Starving on the dukan diet, day 2, as I'm nearly veggie!! I've had whey protein shakes each morning, 2 muller's yesterday saved my life, and tasty cajun chicken made by our canteen chef for me yesterday lunch and homemade burgers in the night. I failed at the galette making...not sure why...my pancake recipe (American) always includes oil in the recipe, not the pan so maybe that's why. I'll try again today. It sure is nice to have the canteen willing to whip me up something. Making food for me and the boy I have the worst tendency to pick!! This morning my son said, I'm really worried about you on this diet, Mammy. I asked why and he just felt like I wasn't getting enough to eat!! Bless him!

Miggsie · 06/07/2010 12:39

After 11 weeks on the diet I have lost 10kg!!!!!

I am missing chocolate and bread still. I only have 2kg to go and then I can go onto stabilisation and have bread!

I'm looking forward to that.

I'm a big fan of this diet (other than the oatbran) as I've fallen off the wagon several times (eating birthday cake!!!) but 3 days of attack and back to the veggie/protein days and the weight is still dropping off.

I have just bought myself some size 10 knickers and feel very proud, and I got back into a dress I bought 20 years ago...yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/07/2010 16:59

Well done, Miggsie!

I think that the weekends are hardest - when you're eating more meals with other people.

I think I might do p+v on Saturday and Sunday, and pp on Monday and Tuesday to compensate for it.

I didn't venture on to the scales this morning but will do so tomorrow.

One unexpected side effect for me has been diarrhoea - I thought I was more likely to suffer the opposite! Anyone else had this?

Katisha · 06/07/2010 19:57

Nope BIWI it's unique and special to you

I am amazed at the steady downward creep of the scales - 12lbs in 3 weeks. Whenever I got a grip of myself to go back on low carbing I would find it was incredibly slow-going after the initial large post-DCs weightloss. But so far this is steadily working.

I find I struggle when I get back in knackered from work and the commute, and there is absolutely nothing to stuff in! Have just resorted to half a tin of pilchards...At least with Atkins you could have some cheese or something. But then again, losing the fat-based stuff is probably why this is working.

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/07/2010 20:20

Yes, I miss not being able to eat cheese and nuts - although I think both of those were probably one of the reasons I wasn't losing much weight

12lbs in 3 weeks is brilliant!

Will brave the scales tomorrow. I hope my weekend excesses didn't wipe out the loss I made last week.

Have got through day 2 of attack OK - I think you get used to it - I just don't think about it as food to enjoy, just food as fuel.

After work snacks - do you like/can you cope with eggs? Always worth having a couple of hard boiled ones in the fridge.

Katisha · 06/07/2010 20:28

Yes was wondering about hard boiled eggs. Not sure how many eggs to eat in a day really though - I now make the galette thing for breakfast with 2 of them, so kind of think that's the limit for the day.

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/07/2010 22:39

Dukan spouts the outdated advice not to eat more than 3 a day - but it was my understanding that eggs don't contribute to high cholesterol.

Will google ...

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/07/2010 22:44

here you go - eggs are not bad for you!
