Hi, I have started the Dukan Diet. Managed to get thru day 1. Anyone else trying it? What do you think ?

Well, I'm glad to report that after three days, I'm already down by 5lbs! I'm very pleased. And I haven't really got into the swing of doing the 20 minutes walking yet.

This morning I'm going to work by tube rather than in the car, and I'm going to walk to the next tube station rather than our nearest one.

The weekend is looming, which I know is going to be tricky. DH and I are going to a 20:20 cricket match tomorrow evening (which was his birthday present from me), and then we have a dinner party on Saturday. I'm not so concerned about the food, as I'm hosting so can control this a bit more easily, but it's the white wine I'm concerned about. I don't want to sabotage my good work so far, but a dinner party with no wine is hard!

Hello everyone - big welcome to all new starters.

I really can vouch for this diet working - even with the occasional cheat.
I am now 26lbs lighter, have dropped two dress sizes and am feeling much better about myself.

It would be wrong to say that I am following the diet to the letter - I have cheated many times (days where biscuits, crisps, birthday cake have got the better of me) but on the whole I am following the principles.

What is working for me is that although I do have some all protein days (maybe 2 a week), on most days I have protein only during the day and my evening meal is a protein rich chicken or salmon salad. This means that I do not find it difficult to eat meals with my husband or friends, can go out for dinner, or have friends round without feeling like a 'diet freak'

Because - when I had a girls weekend away a few weeks ago, I did drink (a lot ) but found that going back on attack for a few days after worked and I still lost. I would suggest that you do not weigh yourself the following day and drink extra water.

Katisha · 01/07/2010 10:41

Really well done insertexpletive! So you've done that in 2 months? Impressive.

I am going to be really interested to see whether the day a week on protein only keeps things online - it's will be a major breakthrough for me if it does as I tend to lose and put on the same stone repeatedly.

BIWI - I drank the best part of a bottle of red after 5 days on attack and did the protein only and lots of water next day - the extra poundage from water retention did drop back off after a couple of days.

Hi
I've got the book on order (after reading this thread!), but I'm shopping stocking up on some stuff today. Can someone tell me which yoghurts I can buy?
thanks

BecauseImWorthIt · 01/07/2010 14:09

I'm a bit wary of the yoghurt, BrassicaBabe - they are very carby, especially fruit ones. I looked at a fat-free Activia one this morning, and it was about 15g carbs.

I've been using Total 0% fat, which I think (from memory) is about 4-5g carbs per 100g. I've been using some to make my galette and some (tablespoon or so) to make a sauce for chicken, with a teaspoon of chilli sauce added (not sweet chilli sauce).

Glad to hear about the wine!

I think I'm going to stay on attack till tomorrow, will take a protein-based packed-supper to eat whilst watching the cricket, and then will allow myself to drink.

For the dinner party, I was thinking of some kind of seafood platter to start with, then steak and salad as a main course (everyone else can have some kind of potatoe dish as well).

insertexpletive · 01/07/2010 14:23

I have been eating either the Activia or Shape fat and sugar free and it does not seem to have had an effect on my weight loss.

I would be lost without them if I am honest...

Katisha · 01/07/2010 14:43

Yes the yoghurts are a necessary crutch. Although the Muller Lites do taste too sweet in an artificial way.

BecauseImWorthIt · 01/07/2010 14:55

I like the Hartley jellies myself - no fat, low calorie and low carb. Can't bring myself to do the yoghurts quite yet - the galette is enough for me in terms of carb intake!

MarshaBrady · 01/07/2010 15:03

White wine is better than beer (of course, beer is terrible carb wise!). And these days I have the odd vodka and slimline tonic.

You know what I like best about this diet I feel like I've rebooted my system. I do have the odd falter but I can really taste sugar in stuff now. Stuff that is meant to be normal savoury food. I had a bite of toast (and didn't um actually eat the bite), just normal supermarket wholemeal bread and it tasted fake and sugary. Vive la difference!

MarshaBrady · 01/07/2010 15:04

I'm not doing the galette or the yoghurt but every so often have something else like a bit of apple or pear as prefer that.

WildistheWind · 01/07/2010 16:41

Hello ladies- I'm starting tomorrow! A bit nervous but really need to lose some...I will be missing my glass of red Vino.

BecauseImWorthIt · 01/07/2010 17:03

Welcome!

dwpanxt · 02/07/2010 21:43

After many many false starts you all have inspired me.Like a loon Yes even those who haven't found it worked for them.
I am a carboholic .
There I've said it. Almost all of my food was carb based .Lots of bread ,potatoes , sweet thing ,chocolate - god chocolate.

dwpanxt · 02/07/2010 22:02

OOoooh just shows you how excited I am pushed the button too soon

Right - as I was saying. I love love love carbs. Brought up on them and rarely have fruit-although I love green veg.

I was diagnosed with and aggressively treated for breast cancer nearly 6 years ago(wow ) and sat around at home for a year before feeling well enough to start doing stuff again. I put on loads of weight -and I wasnt a skinny minny before .I have residual problems from the treatment that aren't visible but they prevent me from doing a great deal physically so a lot of exercise isnt the answer.

But lo and behold I came across this thread last week and something 'spoke'to me. I thought I would give it a go.
I don't weigh myself so go by clothes.
My God after only barely a week I am already fitting into clothes that were too tight even when I bought them ages ago. I dont even stick to the diet properly as I refuse to give up certain things. Sugar in tea(but only 2 cups a day -otherwise its water ), wine when the fancy takes me (most days ) but I reckon I will always be having those and to deny myself them is giving a false loss when I will only put it back when I have them again.
But I have lost and its been so easy for me. I have not had bread, biscuits or -amazingly- chocolate and not missed any of it.I have not been hungry even though I am eating much much less volume wise. I feel great and am loving the fact that I am getting my waist back .

I have a big occasion coming up and am looking forward to being a comfortable size and looking good in whatever I choose to wear rather than having the choice forced upon me by my body. I cant wait.

SpanishHarlot · 03/07/2010 09:11

Hi Ladies

I have been on the Dukan for 5 days now and have lost 5lbs so am really pleased.

I have done the Atkins before so I know that low carbs works for me, only problem with Atkins was the high fat and it sent my cholesterol through the roof so this low fat version is def better.

I like the yoghurts too because when you get that craving for something nice you can have one without feeling guilty.

Oat bran in the yoghurt is fine but not too keen on the pancake thingy. Got to try out a couple of recipes think I will add some well cooked bacon bits or chopped ham to it and some more seasoning to make it less bland.

The best thing is going to bed not feeling hungry and not feeling bloated or having pains in your stomache from the carbs. What a difference, stomache is flat (although still too much of it) and apart from having a couple of tired moments, I feel so much more alert and energetic.

Showmeheaven · 03/07/2010 09:52

Hi girls, I haven't been on for a few weeks. I lost 5 lbs on 1 week of attack. I had a few events in the meantime (and lots of weak moments), but managed to kept my 5lb loss off!!

More importantly, I noticed my appetite had hugely decreased when I went back to eating normal food, plus normal food didn't do as much for me as it used it

I missed being on Dukan In the past I couldn't wait to finish a diet so I could go back to the food. Obviously I put any weight I lost back on doing this. But for the first time in my life I couldn't wait to get back on this diet!!

Anyway, started again on Thursday and DH has agreed to do it with me (after a lot of grumbling). He doesn't have a lot to lose but he has a big, pregnant looking belly.

Anyway, made chilli last night. Bought extra lean mince. Fried it in the pan (no oil). When it was nicely brown, I tipped the pan and all the fat collected at the edge. I put in a couple of kitchen towels and mopped it all up. I then added a few chopped onions and spices, some cumin, dried chilli flakes, smoked paprika, hot chilli powder, tumeric, salt/pepper & cooked for a few mins. I added some tomato puree and veg stock & let it simmer for 10 mins. The chilli tasted nice, but a little dry as the stock had evaporated, so I added a glass of skimmed milk (never tried this before but it defo needed something else). I let it simmer for another 15 mins. Let me tell you it was amazing, the best chilli I have ever made, the milk made it soooo nice, thick & saucey. I didn't even miss the rice. I have some left over for tonight, which I'm having, DH can have steak.

Keep up the good work everyone, this thread is great, very inspiring.

WildistheWind · 03/07/2010 10:31

That chili sounds so yummy, I'm going to try it while on cruise phase!

Second day of attack here...I really miss my wine and choc but strangely, I don't feel that hungry!

Showmeheaven · 03/07/2010 10:46

Pegs, I'm on attack - I'm not sure if tomato puree is allowed on attack phase, perhaps someone could confirm this ??? I got up this morning and have lost 2lbs in 2 days, so I'm delighted!

WildistheWind · 03/07/2010 13:48

You're right tomatoes are only allowed once in cruise phase on a PV day.

I'm on day 2 of attack, no change yet but I will just be patient!

I've chosen to go with the online coaching and find it really helps and also the site has lots of good recipes, especially for PP days.

Nancy66 · 03/07/2010 14:55

What sort of salad dressing are you allowed on the cruise phase - anybody know?

insertexpletive · 03/07/2010 15:03

The book has a great mustard and balsamic dressing - really yummy, even my dh (who is not on the diet) asks for it with his salad now!

I have only lost 1lb this week, but I have only got 1lb more to go before I hit 2 stone so am happy with that.
I slipped up with alcohol this week Naughty but really nice

WildistheWind · 03/07/2010 17:36

From the recipes on the site.

Dukan Vinaigrette

Ingredients for 4:
In a bowl put 1/2 tablespoonful of mustard, 1 pinch of salt, some pepper, 2 tablespoonfuls of balsamic vinegar or another vinegar then mix together until you have a smooth sauce. Add 2 tablespoonfuls of liquid paraffin and 2 tablespoonfuls of sparkling mineral water then whip it up a little with a fork.

Nancy66 · 03/07/2010 20:08

the liquid paraffin sounds a bit alarming! think I'll go with water...thanks!

WildistheWind · 03/07/2010 20:44

Indeed. I've seen paraffin in the baking section though...It might be a substitute for oil! I'd replace it with lemon juice ...

Just enjoyed a lovely Prawn Ceviche it was so fresh and yummy. One paquet of prawns, Lime juice, chopped red onion and coriander.

Katisha · 03/07/2010 21:04

Paraffin?

I notice he was advising someone to swallow paraffin on the website for water retention. And take a suppository.

Cripes...
