no its not katisha so i have nothing to blame it on

AbsOfCroissant · 23/06/2010 19:43

I'm back.

Well, the first week was fine actually (in the end) and I lost 3 kgs in a week! Insane! I have been having fruit (evil Abs) as I love it and can't live without it. So there. Take that mean doctor person.

I have noticed that I'm getting smaller, and measured - over the course of a week I lost 2 inches off my hips, 2 off butt and 1.5 off waist. That is incredible! I'm now alternating two days pp, two days pv and getting used to it. I am, however, eating low fat yogurt like it's going out of fashion, and so far, so good.

Couldn't find the oatbran either, but no issues in that department.

bratnav · 23/06/2010 21:46

OK, half a kilo of the 1 that I put back on is gone again

BecauseImWorthIt · 23/06/2010 21:58

I bought oatbran in Holland & Barrett today, if that's any help?

Will hopefully be starting the attack phase on Monday, when back from my weekend.

ThatVikRinA22 · 23/06/2010 23:10

havnt waded through the whole thread but can anyone tell me what this diet entails please - lots of protein could be good for me as im trying to build muscle but lose fat.

i go to the gym daily but in 4 months have only lost 2kg! please tell me more about this diet and where to get the info from! ta muchly

cornishrex · 24/06/2010 19:18

whoathere - dont feel alone. Its not just you. I've been on it for 2.5 weeks so far, and i'm exactly the same weight as i was when i started. Period arrive and ended three days ago. Zero water retention put on or lost.

I have another "regular" diet which I know works for me and I think I will revert to if nothing changes in the next week - lots of fruit and soup and not alot of protein. My body just doesn't seem to accept that all this protein means that i can burn fat off .....

Katisha · 25/06/2010 13:05

Sympathies for those for whom it isnt working... I don't know what to suggest. Maybe go on measurements rather than weight? If you are doing lots of exercise maybe you are building up muscle which is what you see on the scales?

Personally I am down half a stone in 12 days and am finding it hugely effective. I imagine things will ease off a bit now, and indeed probably should.

uggmum · 25/06/2010 22:50

Now lost 30 pounds. It just keeps coming off

itstimmytime · 26/06/2010 08:59

That's great uggmum - You started a month before me and I hope this time in July, I can say the same - you're an inspiration.

I am surprised that a few people don't seem to be having any results from this diet. I found the initial weight loss dramatic. The book says something about slower initial weight loss for those who have done loads of different diets before. Could that be it?

On a pp day today. Any tasty dinner suggestions that are not salmon, chicken or beef?

Also, I have been plotting my weight loss at fridgegraph.com - it's very motivating!

Thelongroadhome · 27/06/2010 12:46

Can anyone advise me as I don't have the book yet. I don't eat meat but do eat fish and am just starting the attack phase . Can you eat cheese e.g halloumi and can you eat things like tofu and quorn? Not sure about snacks in this phase. Means all I've had today is an egg for breakfast and going to have tuna and prawns for lunch. Can't help think no wonder I'll lose weight cos I'm not eating much!

Katisha · 27/06/2010 14:19

No cheese is off I'm afraid, until you reach the consolidation phase or whatever it is.
The idea is that any dairy should be very low fat. Have a look at the fat content on the tofu and quorn - might be OK.

jennycomelately · 28/06/2010 08:10

I've been doing this for 4 weeks now, and my initial 8lb loss has become 11 lb. It's been hard to stay motivated when the scales have been stuck in one place for days or even gone up, but I'm carrying on. I started off doing 5/5 but have gone back to 1/1 or 2/2 as it doesn't seem to make any difference to the weight loss and is easier to live with.

I'm hoping that I can lose half a stone a month from now on, which would get me to a reasonable weight before the end of the year. I think I can stick with it because I'm really not missing any of the carbs I've cut out, except chocolate, and I can now sit in the same room as a packet of biscuits without feeling the need to scoff half the packet!

I've got a couple of things that make it easier too - if I want something 'forbidden' then I have one teaspooon of it e.g. had some guacamole the other day when we had Mexican Dukan-style (oatbran pancakes instead of tortillas, cauliflower rice etc). And if I have something that I really shouldn't have (kept a bar of Fruit and Nut for 2 weeks but then my resolve weakened) then I calorie count for the next couple of days and keep my intake to 1300 cals or so.

Haven't been exercising as much as I should so if I increase that it will help.

DH has lost 8lb and is happy to continue with a steady 2lb a week (he only has a few more to lose now). That's with the odd beer included, he wants to lose weight but is happy to take it a bit slower.

So I'm not getting the fantastic weight loss that some others are, but the scales are heading in the right direction and I'm finding out what works for me. And I love having oatbran pancakes or an omelette for breakfast every day instead of toast, never feel the need for an 11am snack now!

Oh, spaghetti squash is brilliant, as is cauliflower rice, if you miss pasta or rice. Even DH is a convert

MrsPW · 28/06/2010 09:49

Hi, I've been lurking on this thread for a couple of weeks and got the book a week ago. I've finally started today
I'm going to try and do a 5 day attack to start with.
I've got just under 3 stone to lose and I'm a going to be a bridesmaid in November, so that's a big motivation.
I've never really done a "diet" as such before and I've been about 2-3 stone overweight since my eldest was born 9 years ago
This diet just interested me a lot and I've been looking into it for a while now.
I hope it bloody works

MarshaBrady · 28/06/2010 09:58

Uggmum that is amazing. What are you doing about your clothes?

Still going here, although not weighing as no scales But I feel fabulous, wore a shirt that was on the smallish size 10 years ago (pre-dc and skinny) and it fit so very happy. Easy to do, eggs for breakfast and chicken or fish for lunch, dinner. Had a few wobbles but not too bad! I like that I feel in control and not hungry and craving any food at all.

uggmum · 28/06/2010 15:56

Hi, Marshabrady,
All my clothes are really loose now which is great. I went out on Sunday and spent £100 on some new ones.

Thelongroadhome · 28/06/2010 17:02

Well, I'm now on day 2 of attack and have lost 2lb overnight so very happy. Although very bored as don't eat meat so have had eggs, prawns, tuna and smoked salmon for 5 meals now. Only want to lose 7 lb though so hopefully won't take too long. Have also cheated with 2 glasses of wine and some tomatoes!!

Katisha · 28/06/2010 20:37

Can anyone explain why it has to be alternating protein only days? I don't really feel he explains why in the book.

Why can't it be a smaller amount of veg every day instead of unlimited veg every other day (or whatever pattern you are using)?

Other than this puzzle I am impressed with how this is going. As a seasoned low carber I think the difference must be in the low fat aspect, which I still struggle with as don't think low-fat things are good, but as it's for the short term what the heck...

uggmum · 28/06/2010 21:20

Hi, Dr D does say that if you eat veg everyday you won't lose weight. He experimented with his first patient and he lost weight everyday on protein but when he had veg every day he didn't lose anymore weight. He adds it every other day for nutrition and to break the boredom of protein only. I only have veg once or twice a week at a maximum and I have found that the weight comes off quicker.

OP posts:
Katisha · 28/06/2010 22:21

Hmmm. A bit baffling nonetheless. Why would veg stop you losing weight?

uggmum · 29/06/2010 07:51

To be honest I don't know. But it's working for me. You can leave a message on his website and he might reply

BecauseImWorthIt · 29/06/2010 23:06

It stops you losing weight because it's added carbs, I suppose!

I'm a bit confused about this diet, now I've read the whole book.

I went on to the website and filled in the information about my weight/desired target, etc - and it gave me only a 2 day attack phase, followed by a 79 day cruise phase. Why not longer in attack? I have two stone to lose, so it's not as if we're talking about just a few pounds.

And some of the things that are allowed in the attack phase are quite carby, like yoghurt (especially fruit flavoured ones) as well as the galette - so I'm a bit nervous about it now.

I'm sort of on day two - yesterday was:

B - two boiled eggs
L - rotisserie chicken, breast and leg (no skin)
D - chicken breast wrapped in 3 slices of pancetta, stuffed with a pickled chilli and a small amount of pesto

By this morning I was 2lbs down, so pleased with that.

Today was:

B - galette (savoury), with smoked salmon and a squeeze of lemon
L - rotisserie chicken - breast (no skin)
D - omelette

(I have to confess to having snaffled 2 nachos)

I haven't managed to fit in the walk either day, but this afternoon I was on my feet from 2pm to 4.30, wondering around a conference exhibition, so hopefully that counts a little!

I'm going to do the attack phase until Friday, rather than the two day only, to get me off to a good start. And I'll get on with the walking tomorrow.

Katisha · 29/06/2010 23:12

BIWI I have lost 9 lbs in 15 days. This is much quicker than when I would go back on low-carb periodically, I think I must be somewhat hardened to it or something.

As I said below, I think the difference must be in the sheer calorie restriction because of the low-fat emphasis. But when low-carbing Atkins-style I was probably hitting the cheese, cream and nuts rather too much.

Anyway I am slightly ignoring Dukan on one or two points - I don't think aspartame is a great idea, I don't think you need to try to fry your galette with virtually no oil, and I am having full-fat milk in tea and coffee as usual. And yet the weight is steadily going down. A bit further down the line I shall ditch the low-fat yoghurts etc and eat proper, non-processed things.

Will be interested to see how you get on!

BecauseImWorthIt · 30/06/2010 08:15

I think you're probably right about the calorie thing - I've undoubtedly consumed far fewer calories over the last two days than I would normally. It is interesting that Dukan is so completely opposite Atkins (et al) in terms of insisting on low/no fat.

Anyway, I'm another pound down today, so not complaining!

BecauseImWorthIt · 30/06/2010 08:17

Oh, and totally agree re aspartame. I'm drinking Sainsbury's Diet Ginger Ale and Bitter Lemon because they don't use aspartame.

Katisha - I assume you've moved onto the cruise phase? How long did you stay on attack?

Katisha · 30/06/2010 11:28

I did attack for 5 days. And now am alternating days, except for going off track at w/e so am compensating by having 2 protein days in a row.
