Anyone else doing 30 day shred?

I heard lots about it and got the dvd. I'm on day 2 and can feel my muscles aching!
I'm trying to combine it with a diet too.

Is anyone else doing this/thinking of doing it?

Thanks guys - will start on level one and have my varied weights ready. Knew you'd be able to anser my question.

Tortoise · 21/04/2010 11:10

My copy arrived this morning. Hope to have time to have a go later. My only problem is that i have a cough at the moment which is making my chest a bit tight (asthmatic too). Should i wait until the cough has gone?

Squidmission · 21/04/2010 11:38

See how you feel but you could try the weight exercises and sit ups but just march on the spot during the aerobics bit?

Or just watch it to prepare yourself....!
Good luck!

Really thick question but please indulge me ! Ive just realised my weights are probably to light at ½ lb each when you talk about what size weights you use are you talking combined or individual?? Im off to sports direct after work to get new ones.

justaminute · 21/04/2010 12:12

Good advice squidmission. I find it hard to breathe when doing this DVD and I'm supposedly healthy and non asthmatic.

justaminute · 21/04/2010 12:21

omydarlin - I was using 1kg weights (2kg combined) until dd insisted on copying me and she wanted the pink weights so I used the 1.5kg handweights (3kg) combined and I've not gone back to the lighter ones.
It's hard work towards the end of the sets but I'm enjoying the pain! Totally mad

I got a set off Amazon for about £17 - very pleased with them

Joby1970 · 21/04/2010 12:40

hi guys. I use 2kg each dumbells. I would deff start on level one & see how you go. When I first got 30 DS I had been working out for a year & it still challanged me & I ached (a lot) after day one! But it does get easier - but never easy iykwim

omydarlin · 21/04/2010 12:45

Thanks justaminute - now you go and enjoy that pain

ClaireDeLoon · 21/04/2010 12:57

Well no more shred for me I guess, just took a pregnancy test and it's a bfp. We've been ttc for two and a half years and two pregnancies, two m/c's. Am in complete shock.

Do you think I would be OK to start some gentle swimming?

cyteen · 21/04/2010 12:58

Oh yay, congratulations Claire! Definitely best to leave the shred behind in that case. I have no advice on the swimming but I really hope you have a stress-free pregnancy

Joby1970 · 21/04/2010 13:00

Clairedeloon - I would speak to your Doc about exercising - a healthy body makes a healthy baby.

Squidmission · 21/04/2010 13:03

Congratulations Claire!!!!
You must be over the moon. Good luck with your pregnancy.
In most cases, gentle exercise is fine so unless you have some condition or problem, go for it!

Clairedeloon - to see you leave the cult but for you!

Squidmission · 21/04/2010 13:04

Oh, and I use 1.5kg in each hand. Its quite hard but I can feel it working so I'm hoping for better results

Thanks all for congratulations not sure how happy yet mostly feeling very shaky and weepy and scared. I don't have any health problems just a problem with my uterus, so will do lots of walking for now and maybe if I get past 13 weeks start with swimming. Don't massively want to go see doc this early as last time he insisted on early scans (6 weeks) and I found it very stressful, would prefer to wait until 8 weeks when thy can tell for certain.

Lots of luck to you all with the shred, will keep an eye on the thread and see how you are all doing.

GoldenSnitch · 21/04/2010 13:15

Sorry to lose you from the shred Claire but congratulations on the pregnancy. Best of luck with it all. Fingers crossed all will go perfectly this time

Joby1970 · 21/04/2010 13:29

ok looked on another discussin on amazon - & these are 2 thoughts

You should not BEGIN a strenuous workout plan while pregnant. Now is not the time for that. You should definitely stay active and walk a lot if you were not active before. I was a moderate runner/lifter before my pregnancy and I was able to continue my routine through pregnancy, but I listened to my body (after a while, running became too hard so I walked on a sharp incline instead). You want to drink a lot of water and pay attention to your heart rate because you do not want to overheat or become faint. Do Shred AFTER the baby, when you want to blast those pounds off.

L. Sharpe says:
I started doing 30 day shred while pregnant and modified it to suit my pregnancy. I was fine doing regular lunges while she does jumping lunges, etc. As my pregnancy progressed, I went with a different workout (Beachbody's Power 90, which does not involve jumping and is performed standing). Just use common sense and keep your prior fitness level in mind before you begin a new workout plan. I was very fit prior to becoming pregnant (runner, 30+ miles a week). I also continued running throughout my pregnancy, and am still running 20+ miles a week with the due date only a few weeks away. When I deliver, I will use 30-day shred again, modifying it to suit my recovery.

To a previous reviewer - pregnant women are no longer advised to limit heart rate. The ACOG's 2002 guidelines for exercise in pregnancy use perceived exertion as a guideline. They also recommend that even if you have not been active before, that you exercise 30 minutes daily while pregnant. Again, common sense should be your guide. As your pregnancy progresses, you will naturally modify your routine.

LostGirl · 21/04/2010 13:36

Congratulations Claire, really hope all goes well.

Twinkle, don't get me wrong, as long as you are not over eating and are exercising then your stomach will flatten out and look lovely but a proper 'six pack' is far harder to achieve. Remember that the girls in the dvd are fitness models and make there money by looking like that.

I know nothing about ww but if it is working for you and you are enjoying what you eat then great! I have been reading more about weight training recently and how what you eat effects your workouts and the results that you see and have followed some of the basic principles.

Your dh sounds very sensible, definitely only weigh yourself once a month, or even better throw the scales away and have a good look in the mirror once a month at yourself and you will really see the changes, and more importantly think about how you are feeling compared with before you started exercising. Use these things to judge how successful your healthy living is as the scales often don't truly reflect that.

Don't feel guilty about having a 'bad weekend', this is life, you should be able to enjoy the odd takeaway, cake, night out etc without feeling guilty, it's just a question of going back to your good habits the next day.

SandylovesZsadist · 21/04/2010 13:38

Well I should be doing the 30 day shred - Have had the DVD for 3 weeks or so and haven't even taken it out of the wrapper.

LostGirl · 21/04/2010 13:46

Give it a go, it's blissfully short. Just think in half an hour it will all be over

Tortoise · 21/04/2010 14:07

Congratulations Claire. Good luck with the pregnancy.

twinkle183 · 21/04/2010 16:22

ClaireDeLoon congrats on your bfp.. swimming sounds okay to me! Its okay to exercise as long as you stay hydrated!

I went for a 6 mile walk today and will get round to doing my 3rd day on the 30 day shred although if I am honest.. everything hurts... lol

I love the fact that it is only half hour.. the time goes so quickly that the pain is worth it.. I swear I can see a change in my arms already!!!

Scales have been throw out and am just going to keep to measuring i think....!!!

LostGirl I'd be happy with my pre-pregnancy stomach back to be honest... Lots of hard work to do but it will be worth it I know it will!

twinkle183 · 21/04/2010 16:22

Squidmission thanks for the suggestion will give that a go!

livvylouis · 21/04/2010 16:29

Congratulations Claire , sorry to see u go. Going for day 3 of the shred tonight, may try level 2.......we'll see!

Squidmission · 21/04/2010 16:51

I can't even remember what day I'm on now! I think its 7.
My jeans are definitely looser now and I swear I can feel tighter muscles. My body is looking slightly better.

I'm going to start body brushing too. Its meant to smooth skin and help get rid of cellulite lumps and toxins and has other marvellous benefits too.
