Anyone else doing 30 day shred?

I heard lots about it and got the dvd. I'm on day 2 and can feel my muscles aching!
I'm trying to combine it with a diet too.

Is anyone else doing this/thinking of doing it?

DO NOT DO IT SQUID. Sorry to shout but if you do something like that then it is likely to be a very low calories diet and you will lose water and muscle NOT fat, your body will go into starvation mode and will store and hang onto all the fat it can so will burn all that lean muscle you have spent the last couple of months working so hard to make.

Firstly, does it really matter what the scales say. I rarely weigh myself but according to my mates set I weigh exactly the same as I did eight months ago, but I am nearly three dress sizes smaller.

Look at your diet objectively and see if there are any small PERMANENT changes you think would be beneficial to make. Little things like maybe cutting down slightly on the amount of pasta/rice/potatoes you have on your plate, and upping the vegetables. Small changes like that will make a difference, slowly but surely and are sustainable. If you do a crash diet the results will be VERY short term, you will lose muscle mass thus slowing your metabolism down so when you come off the diet you will put more weight back on more easily, and you will find the shred even harder to do

Wise words LostGirl. I know you're right and weight loss should be done slowly but sometimes I need a bit of a kick.
I actually weighed 12st 10lbs 6months after ds2 was born (2yrs ago) and I now weigh 10st 7lbs. I've got here using a mixture of sensible eating and a couple of fad diets here and there for a boost. It does really help me so I'm not averse to them if theyre just for a week.

Day 26 done. Just 4 days to go. And tonight i managed to do the 1st set of mountain climbers the hard way and half the jumping lunges the hard way too.
Am fighting the temptation to measure myself tonight! Will try and stay strong.

Tortoise · 11/06/2010 13:12

I know we are meant to avoid scales but i need to keep track of weight so i weighed myself this morning and am finally under 12 st!
Also used a BMI calculator online and it saud u am now a healthy weight for my height. Before Shred i was overweight.
It has made my day.

gotareason · 11/06/2010 13:39

You're really on a roll Tortoise, what with the compliment yesterday and now getting under 12st! congrats, you've earned it

I did day 4 today and it felt fractionally easier on the arms so I am very happy with that. I'm really looking forward to seeing a difference inch-wise. I haven't actually measured but I've got loads of clothes that don't fit so they should provide a good indicator!

Tortoise · 11/06/2010 13:43

Notareason Thanks Now i just have to keep it up lol!

gotareason · 11/06/2010 13:49

Yes - wonder if there are other dvd's with the same sort of structure ie intense mini workouts that you can do every day? It might be worth getting a few to build some variety in as that's probably the best way make sure you stay with it. For the moment I'll just get my head down and aim for that day 30!

Skimummy · 11/06/2010 14:46

The 30 day shred...is complete! Yay!

Good to see everyone else is going well - and only 4 days to go Tortoise!

Thanks to this thread for keeping me motivated. I am going to stick around and keep at the Shred. I have learned to love it...baby...

justaminute · 11/06/2010 16:08

Go tortoise go!!!

Fantastic news about ducking under the 12 stone barrier. If you keep the shred up this weekend you'll be able to measure on Monday - what a fantastic start to the week that would be ...no pressure

Well done skimummy too - welcome to the "I've completed the shred and lived to tell the tale club" Any measurements to report?

Just done my session - I'm sure I'm sweating more than last time, hopefully that means I'll see better results this time.

Skimummy · 11/06/2010 18:38

No measurements sadly but can definitely say I have lost inches. All my clothes are loose! I might measure this weekend and see how I go for the next month.

Am very curious to see how Level 1 goes tomorrow. Although will miss the amusement Jillian gives me in Level 3 when she says "you should be seeing a six pack right about now." Er, no!

Tortoise · 11/06/2010 22:38

Day 27 done. Just 3 days to go. Struggled a bit tonight but i have had a headache for most of the day. Fought through it though and got to the end!

trumpton · 12/06/2010 09:37

Congratulations Skimummy Please have trophy engraved and keep it polished. I am on day 3 of level one second time around. Trying to do hard versions and doing cardio whilst holding weights ( the equivilant to the weight I have lost iyswim) Still good fun. DH birthday and have made huge choc cake ho humm.

Squidmission · 12/06/2010 09:39

Good going Tortoise and Skimummy!
The results are amazing aren't they? And loose clothes is the best

Skimummy I'm still finding level 1 challenging but to add to the challenge, I just do the cardio with weights in my hand too.

Just done day 2 (2nd time around). I'm still enjoying it. I love it that I love it and haven't got bored of it.

Skimummy · 12/06/2010 18:03

OK, am holding on to the trophy for a few days for Tortoise! Polishing furiously

I am having a day off - although did an hour of Pilates this morning - so will be back on level 1 tomorrow. Good idea about the weights and cardio trumpton and Squidmission, I'll definitely try that.

Caught sight of myself in fluorescent change room lighting today and decided I must forge on with another 30 days. At least!

Tortoise · 12/06/2010 23:28

Day 28 done. Had to wait for footie to finish then watched BB! Was tempted to not shred then i remembered i really want to end on Monday and take measurements so made myself do it! Had trouble with my right wrist tonight. Quite painful when doing any exercise where you have to be on hands.

Tortoise · 13/06/2010 23:16

Day 29 completed
Looking forward to tomorrow night.

LetThemEatCake · 13/06/2010 23:22

hello!

I took a break from level 2 for a few days but went running every day in lieu ... back to shredding tonight. Geez, those plank jacks are nasty!

Have received lots of positive comments over the w'end wrt to slimness so want to hang on to those!!

Does anyone else think that Jillian fancies Natalie or am I just incredibly puerile??

congrats on the whole 30days skimummy and on the compliments Tortoise!

Mithered · 14/06/2010 10:20

Hi can I join this thread - I had a quick look and was so impressed by your comment that I ordered DVD and have just done day 1. Here goes...

Do you all do some other form of exercise too as I am doing a 10k in 12 weeks and need to have some sort of plan to train for that. If Jillian gets harder and harder am not sure that I will be able to run.

Any advice from the experts?

LostGirl · 14/06/2010 11:12

Why don't you alternate the shred with a run, so you can do three runs a week and three shreds and have one day off to rest and recover? Can you run for a certain length of time already, or are you starting your training from scratch?

Mithered · 14/06/2010 11:34

No I did couch potato to 5k on here last year and can run for about 30 mins(not very fast but I can do it)
Plus I have been going to gym to do classes at least once/twice a week

Just trying to work out a training plan - think that sounds like a good idea. 3 runs, 3 shreds and a day off.

Will try for a week and see how it goes

LostGirl · 14/06/2010 11:41

Sounds like you have a good level of fitness already . I don't shred anymore but alternate running with weight training and it has worked well. If I feel I need an extra rest day during the week then I sometimes combine an interval running session after my weights, or just skip the interval running session altogether . Good luck with your 10k.

Nolda · 14/06/2010 16:32

Did day 29 today. Can't wait to be finished tomorrow.

Tortoise Have you finished yet?

Tortoise · 14/06/2010 16:38

Nolda Will be doing day 30 tonight. Looks like i will be passing the trophy onto you . Well done.

Naetha · 14/06/2010 17:29

Did my run yesterday in a time of 35mins which I thought wasn't shabby for a first timer

Back on the shred today - technically I'm on day 14, but I'm going to reset to day 11 as I've had a few days off and don't want to overwhelm myself by rushing to level 3. Did it today with no problems, although I did substitute some of the exercises to minimise knee pain. I didn't go so low in squats and lunges, and did butt kicks with same arm movement instead of jumping jacks. Hard work but good fun!

Can we have some stats from those of you completing the shred? Something for us wannabes to aspire to!

Squidmission · 14/06/2010 20:59

I cant wait to hear Tortoises results!
Unfortunately, Naetha, I didn't take any measurements before I started but my clothes are definitely looser and I look more toned. Dh can vouch for that

Day 4 (2nd time) done.
