Anyone else doing 30 day shred?

Squidmission · 11/04/2010 18:12

I heard lots about it and got the dvd. I'm on day 2 and can feel my muscles aching!
I'm trying to combine it with a diet too.

Is anyone else doing this/thinking of doing it?

GoldenSnitch · 27/04/2010 22:12

I'm already up around 6am most mornings and I'm up 3 or 4 times in the night to feed 17 week old DD. Sleep is precious.

It's hard because she's so clingy at the moment. 20 minutes seems a lot longer when you have a baby screaming the whole time because she won't be put down

Can't do it once DH gets home cause he would laugh at me so I need a time during the day. DS doesn't nap anymore so he's always around and DD's 10 minute naps are driving me crazy - teeny babys are supposed to nap for hours aren't they?!

Tortoise · 27/04/2010 22:23

Ah i see. A lot harder with a teeny baby. What time does DH get home? Could he take her for a little walk so you can do it?

GoldenSnitch · 27/04/2010 22:35

He doesn't get home until after DS has had dinner and then he eats himself and we do bathtime. He's not confident doing bathtime on his own yet and DD's having a Mummy phase where only I will do anyway so she'd just scream if I left her with him.

I'm OK as long as I can find 20 minutes in the day. It's just tough somedays. Still managing a run every other evening which is good. My 30 days might just take a bit longer though

mummytotwins · 27/04/2010 22:54

gasp day 2 done! I am SO unfit, Im sat here, sweating and looking rather tomatoesque!!

Ah well, 2 down 28 more to go............

NotNeeemo · 28/04/2010 07:16

day 5 completed and don't ache (too much)

may be brave and do level 2

Joby1970 · 28/04/2010 08:25

Well done girls - keep at it. I'm really pleased that we are finding motivation on this thread & also some self worth especially when not letting ourselves be ruled by the scales x.

notyummy · 28/04/2010 09:07

Quite agree Joby. I weigh 10st 11, am 10/12(although am tall) and I will never be petite/tiny. I am fit though, and have a healthy % body fat/waist size. I think aiming to be healthy and a good role model for your kids is a much better mind set than having to be a particular weight. It is good to have a goal (i.e a healthy waist size or BMI) but being being healthy is far more than being a particular weight - you can be skinny and unfit/unhealthy.

justaminute · 28/04/2010 09:29

I too am finding this thread motivational and The Shred is addictive. Last night I played netball so thought it best not to wear myself out by shredding beforehand but I stunned myself by doing it when I got in .

squidmission I took a look at your links. As Jillian would say "Amazing job" (i love her when she says that at the end of Level 2 ). I wish I'd taken some before shots. I'm feeling fitter but can't see much change. dh says he sees me every day so he says he hasn't noticed it either. I guess there is a lot of flab for the muscle to push through!

BattyKoda · 28/04/2010 09:40

Hi.... Have never heard of this before, but after a quick scan of your thread I'm considering it. I'm massively unfit, and need to loose a stone by July (getting married, and bikini honeymoon!!!)

Is it really hard? Do you have to be fit? Will I loose weight as well as tone up?

justaminute · 28/04/2010 10:06

BattyKoda - take the plunge and join the cult. It is hard but in a good way.

For me it is just the right length, just when I want to give in I realise I am nearly done so I keep going. The abs section is also a welcome relief (never thought I'd say that about abs work!) as it's a chance to lay down. Doing the exercise is stopping me from pigging out too as I don't want to undo all my good shred work. Having said that I'm on my third week and not lost a pound but I'm feeling great and determined to see results.

Squidmission · 28/04/2010 12:08

Hi BattyKoda I agree with justaminute. It is hard but very good. Its only 20 mins and you really do push yourself in those 20 mins!
You will lose weight if you combine it with a diet.

Day 2 level 2 done. It is soooo hard. I can literally feel the sweat puring off me!

OP posts:
BattyKoda · 28/04/2010 12:31

Don't know if I'd have the stamina to keep it up! But then if it's only 20 mins....

Am on a diet, but need to be loosing weight quicker than I am. I'm 9 and a half stone, want to be 8 and a half.

Joby1970 · 28/04/2010 12:36

battykoda: go for it & join our cult lol. as everone says its quite hard (initially) but it makes you feel like you can take on the world & its only 20 mins long! Plus I found it improves all parts of my life.

As we have previously discussed on here I wouldn't go for a specific weight loss - just check how your clothes are fitting differently.

Just a minute - lol on the abs comment - I felt exactly the same - now I LOVE doing abs work

LostGirl · 28/04/2010 12:41

Battykoda, don't go for a quick weightloss. When people lose weight quickly it is normally because they are on unsustainable and unhealthy diets such as very low calorie, or no carbs. You cannot realistically lose more than 1-2 lbs of FAT a week. When you lose more weight than that (especially when you only have a stone to lose in total) you are losing muscle tissue, and the more muscle tissue to lose the slower you metabolism will become and this is why people who lose weight quickly on these fad diets end up putting on more weight than they lost.

Just try and make good choices, increase your protein portions slightly, cut your carbs down slightly and fill half your plate with veg at lunch and dinner. Have two or three snacks a day depending on how active you are, and try and make them a combination of carbs, proteins and fats.

Eating this way will give you loads of energy and you will feel great. Low calorie quick fix diets will leave you feeling tired and depressed which is not what you want in the run up to your wedding day!

twinkle183 · 28/04/2010 17:12

Am feeling fab another day of l2 shred done!!! Feel bad if I miss a day due to other committments!!! Food is going great too!!

Join the cult your love it, once you shred you won't go back!!

Tortoise · 28/04/2010 21:23

So tired tonight. Think i will have to miss tonight shred but will try and do it in the morning then maybe again in the evening.

mummytotwins · 28/04/2010 23:35

Day 3 Level 1 done, think I did something to my knee yesterday though, its really sore, will have to get a strap or something for it I think, I cant give up 3 days in!!!!

And seeing as this is cyberland and non of you know me I will tell you what I am finding keeps me motivated.....the sound of my fat slapping when Im jumping around I will be toned and slim, I will be toned and slim.............

Joby1970 · 29/04/2010 08:24

mummytotwins - I nearly spat my cereal all over the keyboard laughing at your last comment

BattyKoda · 29/04/2010 09:41

LostGirl - I'm aiming to loose about 2 lb's a week. My diet at the moment consists of:

Breakfast: Glass of OJ slice of Soya and linseed toast.
Snack: Banana
Lunch: Oatcakes with cheese, carrot sticks, Activia yogurt
Tea: What eveyone else is having but I try to cut out carbs and increase the veg.

Tonight is Chilli with rice and garlic bread. I shall try to just have the chilli and might bulk it out with chick peas or something.

I'm sold on the two comments that read 'look forward to abs work' and 'love abs work'. I have done a bit of Wii fitting and I hate the abs ones!! Think I will join you if thats OK?

marmalade32 · 29/04/2010 09:41

Hi all. I have joined the shred cult. Bought the DVD after reading all of these positive comments and have just done 7th day on level 1. Has taken me 9 days to do it. I am overweight-put 4 stone on when pregnant and DD is now 2- no excuse for leaving it this long really. Day 1 wasn't as bad as I thought-novelty value I think. I used 2kg hand weights--what was I thinking so soon......as...on day 2 I woke up and couldn't even lift DD out of small cotbed !! But I did it but used tins of beans. Hurt like mad, and actually thought I might cry ! It has now been getting easier and am following Natalie rather than Anita and am using 2 kg weights for all but the last strength exercise. That is just a killer, I have to say. Still struggle a bit with the jumping jack, skipping but getting there. Think I can get to day 10 and then day 11, level 2 by Tuesday working it around work, DD and DH commitments. All of you're posts have got me motivated. I didn't measure myself but can feel my clothes getting looser, only a bit but it's getting there. Anyone who is still nervous about it-just go for it. I never thought I'd say this but I am actually enjoying exercise for the first time in my life !

BattyKoda · 29/04/2010 09:45

Is this it?

Have just watched a clip on you tube. I'm terrified, but looking forward to looking like her

Do I need weights?

marmalade32 · 29/04/2010 09:50

I bought mine on ebay and it's got a different cover but I think its the same. You do need weights, but I wouldn't recommend starting like i did with 2kg unless you're quite fit already. 1kg will be good, maybe 1.5. Tins of beans will do but they're probably too light to make a differene in some of the exercises.

omydarlin · 29/04/2010 10:37

I am useless - really I am

This morning I got up half an hour early especially got my kit on had jillian on pause when I hear my daughter messing around upstairs - her tooth was hanging out of her mouth and givin her pain so she got up to read it ended up with us all back in bed for 20 mins until the alarm went off havin a cuddle - i mean i was dressed and readyto get going and evrything I just figured oh well "wont have enough time anyway"

bleeeuurrghhh

Marmalade32 well done on perservering thats great!

I really need to get going or I can never be truly a member of the shred cult!!

marmalade32 · 29/04/2010 11:14

Ohmydarlin, you're not useless at all. Daughters are lovely but strange creatures and do things to confuse us--I know mine does. Cuddle time is worth 10 days of Shred any day. Can you do it tonight instead ? Do it before the debate so you're fired up to shout abuse at the TV...

LostGirl · 29/04/2010 11:23

Battykoda, weights are good as they add more intensity to the exercises, especially for the upper body. If you don't have any weights it is still worth doing though as there are plenty of lunges, squats, push ups etc where you are using your own bodyweight anyway.
