Starting New Atkins tomorrow

mrsboogie · 28/03/2010 20:28

I am starting the new Atkins diet tomorrow - it's a bit less full-on than the old Atkins in that you are not just supposed to eat bacon eggs and steak three times a day forever.

Have been trying to lose weight all year -I last three weeks, plateau and then give up. This time I have to stick to it as I am a bridesmaid at my sister's wedding in June. I have already had to tell her that I cannot wear a traditional bridesmaid type dress (I am 5 stone overweight and have a 48 inch boob measurement) but there is still time for me to look a bit less massive if I go full on from here in.

She is slim and has the most beautiful dress - I dread to think what I am going to look like in the photos.

Wish me luck (and will power - no more Friday night wine)!

err...I had brazil nuts and marks and spencer's cornish cruncher chilli cheese for breakfast the other day riven

or how about some nice full fat greek yoghurt?

at the weekend I made a lovely lasagne with sheets of courgette instead of pasta and a cheese sauce made of cream and cheese with no flour. It was fab! no carbs and no hardship.

I have also discovered the cauliflower rice thing - very nice with a curry.

Meeting with cambridge woman went fine.I bought £50 worth of shakes and am due to meet her again on weds. I won't be meeting her though as I only started the diet today -am doing it for a few weeks to see if I can put a hole in the 3 stone I need to lose. then I wil go back to atkins.

I already have the dress and it just about fits me - but my belly looks awful in it so another stone would be great.

had first cambridge shake this morning - a porridge thing - it was VILE!! nearly puked, I did.

Canitbedone · 10/05/2010 14:04

Good luck Msboogie, I bought a weeks supply of Cambridge off a friend once trying to shift a quick half stone and I remember the 'porridge thing' only to well! and some foul bar that was like cardboard in my mouth! But it's definitely a good and fast way of shifting the weight and you sound in the right frame of mind.

Bad weekend here too! and after all my talk of leaving the chocolate alone I had a spectacular blow out saturday night! But onwards and upwards!

msboogie · 10/05/2010 14:42

£50 a week
you can lose 3 - 4 pounds a week.

Yes, I know what you are thinking - a fool and their money.

aND i CAN'T AFFORD IT AND THEY ARE HORRIBLE.

Canitbedone · 10/05/2010 22:24

Just hold your nose, throw it down your neck and think about your sisters wedding in June! And I know somebody who is currently on the cambridge and lost an impressive 8lb in a week! So you might be pleasently suprised.

I think we all know that it's not sustainable Riven but I do think it can be a great kick-start with the weight loss.

its out of my prove range too if I'm honest - that's about what I spend on the entire family shopping in a month!

i'm going back to atkins as soon as I have got rid of the stuff I have

prove range? price range

err well I was kinda doing the cambridge thing on a week by week basis - I expected it to be 35 quid a week which it is if you are under 5 feet 8 (which I am not) and eat normal food alongside it once a day.

i'm not throwing any more money at it, that's for sure.. I'll have no spends for the wedding - just had to buy a flipping new buggy for taking on the plane..

Canitbedone · 12/05/2010 15:59

How is everybody doing or isn't anybody doing Atkins anymore..?

I seem to be really struggling at the moment, keep cheating and can't seem to get back on track. I'm really pleased though that I haven't regained any as I've heard so many horror stories of putting on 8lb over night once eating carbs again!

How's the Cambridge going Msboogie?

msboogie · 12/05/2010 16:57

well to be honest its hard going canitbedone Have discovered that I can eat the soups and the chocolate shakes but nothing else. Have a weigh -in this evening and she will be expecting me to fork out for a load more stuff but I have loads left and when I run out I am going back on Atkins.

Honestly - Atkins seems like paradise to me now, I am really hungry today and I don't think its worth it.

The good thing about this is it has brought me up sharp because I was falling off the wagon a bit towards the end with the Atkins. When I go back now I will be good as gold - anything is better than having to live on this awful muck!

I think if you eat carbs you will hold onto a lot of water with them so that's why people put on a lot of weight very quickly - its not all fat though. Why don't you do a protein day to get yourself back into it?

pebbles77 · 13/05/2010 12:50

im still doing atkins

naughtily i weighed myself this am and am 2lbs down so in 4 1\2 wks thats 15lbs - v happy. i certainly have had a few naughty days but "only" booze or too much cheese. i havent eaten "proper" carbs once.

to be honest apart from boring eggs i am finding it quite easy. im a sahm who hates cooking so now my hubby (always cooks) will cook a roast chicken and gammon on a sunday and for lunch i have cold meat, vegies, egg mayo etc. really easy, quick and i like this type of food

im a cheddar addict so struggling with being on a diet and still eating it ie i go over board

keep it up everyone, even if not atkins dont give up on the dieting

msboogie · 13/05/2010 13:51

I'm still doing Atkins!

wow pebbles well done!! you have lost more weight than me in less time.

I haven't eaten any proper carbs either (except for some chocolate once but it was too sweet) It's actually not that hard once you get use to it - I think you learn to look forward to different things.

took a short break to try Cambridge but put on 4lbs in 3 days so bugger that! also its horrible and v hard.

So back on Atkins today.

Just been to Marks and Spencers to get some cooked chicken for my lunch break and I noticed that they have a deal on cooked meats - they have 3 for £5 which is quite good value. I got a sliced chicken breast in pesto, another one with mexican spices and lime and a packet of hand shredded duck - which looks lovely and is meant to cost £2.99 alone!

penona · 13/05/2010 20:40

I have sort of given up. I didn't mean to, but had some wine over the weekend, and a small amount of bread, and found I had put on 2lbs! Which is clearly water but still annoying.

I have tried to be good, but struggling with it now. I seem to have lost the motivation to carry on. I have lost about 6lbs, only have another 6lbs to go but the last bit always seems to be the hardest. PLus I am tired and craving carbs madly. I think it must be the booze!

Canitbedone · 16/05/2010 12:05

I'm determined to keep resurrecting this thread!

I've had a good few days, took your advice Msboogie and have gone back to the start again. I know it's working as I've spent 3 days with the atkins flu but more energised today.

We sound very familiar Penona, similar amount of weight to go - but it's definitely helped getting refocused and I actually quite enjoy this diet. Just need to lay off the booze, as you're right, it definitely starts the carb cravings.

Looking forward to weigh in on Tuesday - must keep myself off the scales till then.

Well done Pebbles - how's everybody else doing?

msboogie · 16/05/2010 12:29

I'm doing ok - except for last night and did very naughty and had vodka and chocolate

will make up for it this week by going heavy on the protein and light on everything else

pebbles77 · 16/05/2010 12:42

Got drunk last night and trying desperately not to eat anything naughty today - my goodness it's difficult.

Keep drinking the water

Canitbedone - well done for starting again - fingers crossed

msboogie · 16/05/2010 15:49

here is a nice low carb recipe - scroll down to the chicken with mustard and creme fraiche and the olive and cucumber salad..

pebbles77 · 16/05/2010 16:15

mmmmmm - thanks msboogie, i know what we r having for dinner now
