Starting New Atkins tomorrow

mrsboogie · 28/03/2010 20:28

I am starting the new Atkins diet tomorrow - it's a bit less full-on than the old Atkins in that you are not just supposed to eat bacon eggs and steak three times a day forever.

Have been trying to lose weight all year -I last three weeks, plateau and then give up. This time I have to stick to it as I am a bridesmaid at my sister's wedding in June. I have already had to tell her that I cannot wear a traditional bridesmaid type dress (I am 5 stone overweight and have a 48 inch boob measurement) but there is still time for me to look a bit less massive if I go full on from here in.

She is slim and has the most beautiful dress - I dread to think what I am going to look like in the photos.

Wish me luck (and will power - no more Friday night wine)!

I weigh myself daily regularly in teh morning when i am lightest. beccause you can flucuate upto 6lbs in a day - sometimes more - so it is important to do it first thing in the am.

mrsboogie · 27/04/2010 15:43

I do too.

mrsboogie - have u measured at all - ie have you lost inches?

penona · 27/04/2010 22:21

mrsboogie are you also measuring inches? or a pair of jeans or something? I remember last time I did it not losing alot of weight initially, but my clothes were loser pretty soon.

The period might have something to answer for.

Also, ehem, I find I get rather constipated - could that be putting on weight?

mrsboogie · 27/04/2010 22:39

will measure inches in the morning and see what's what...

I do think I look a bit thinner in the tummy area but I don't know ...

drank loads of water today so we will see if that makes any difference...

How is everyone doing? No change for me weight wise. But then I have been eating rather a lot of peanuts after discovering theyw ere low-carb and I'm sure that can't be great!

Going to keep going for the weekend and then ditch on Monday if no more weight loss. I miss fruit too much! A low-cal option might be better.

mrsboogie · 01/05/2010 12:57

I'm still not really losing much.

No, peanuts won't help much penona! there's a gram of fat in each one!

have made an appointment with a Cambridge counsellor for next week. Can't be faffed with this messing around any more...

five or six weeks in - have lost count..12lbs or 1 stone lost depending on whether it is yesterday or today we are talking about. 10 of those pounds lost in the first two weeks.

tummy definitely less huge but norks still massive as ever unfortunately (they are one of the main reasons to lose weight)

but its so not moving fast enough

and as for pooing only once a week..

have an appointment with a Cambridge advisor on weds - if I cd lose a few stone on that I would be tempted to move on to Slimming World.

kerching though.

yeh, I saw that - at least SW gives a bit of variety..

I just realised yesterday that UK food labelling is not the same as US, so have been doing it all wrong! UK Carbs are net carbs anyway, ie after fibre deducted. So I was thinking eg spinach is 2.7g carbs, less the 2.7g fiber = free!!! Eeeek!

am not sure this suits me really. I have lost the peaks and troughs with cutting out the sugary stuff, but I feel bloated and horrid and long for a decent poo too!

My DH is doing v well on it, losing a lb every other day so about 10lb so far. Pah.

Please tell me about SW. Can't bear a class or anything but happy to do a book.

pebbles77 · 05/05/2010 10:21

Been away so no internet

3rd week weigh in on sat and i lost another 2lbs so that's 13 in total

Has everyone changed to other diets cos of lack of loss or are people sticking with it.

I do agree with the fact that some diets suit some people but not others.

Keep going with the dieting everyone

mrsboogie · 05/05/2010 11:19

I'm still here - still on 1 stone 6 weeks in.

have an appointmetn with a cambridge counsellor this evening - am just on the border of 30 bmi so might give that a go. Atkins is working for me but very very slow.

OP posts:
GypsyMoth · 05/05/2010 11:21

slowly for me too....roughly a stone in 6 weeks also, but clothing starting to feel alot looser this week

Canitbedone · 05/05/2010 14:50

No further weight loss here either. 9lb in induction and no loss in the 3rd week but I haven't gained and have fallen off the wagon several times, alcohol mainly.

I'll give it another couple of weeks as I like the fact that I can now have chocolate fudge cake sitting in the house without feeling the need to go and eat all the icing off it! This is a big step forward and the atkins definitely stops me craving.

mrsboogie · 05/05/2010 16:34

that mini plateau seeems to be quite common - it will move again in a week or so

well Atkins DOES indeed remove cravings - I have had a large Boz of Thornton's chocs in the house and I am not even tempted.

choclate fudge cake tho - I would probably cry...

OP posts:
Canitbedone · 05/05/2010 16:41

It's amazing isn't it, under normal circumstances a box of Thorntons would be calling my name! Although I've a feeling that I'm now replacing one addiction with another... Don't drink an awful lot but Vodka and diet coke is starting to taste rather good! - what with it being low carb and all that!

canitbedone I hate to tell you this but you need to go easy on the voddies - alcohol brings ketosis to a dead halt also!

pebbles77 · 09/05/2010 13:55

well weighed in yesterday and stayed the same. to be honest not surprised cos was away last weekend so although tried hard was very difficult to do it by the book and also best mate got engaged this week so have had a couple of boozy nights. so.... my breath is no longer smelly so am assuming i am not in ketosis again so am going to strong again and hopefully will have another weight loss week this week.

is it easy to get back into ketosis after a blip?

how's everyone doing?

msboogie · 09/05/2010 15:10

pebbles yes it is easy to get back into ketosis - people can be in ketosis when they get up in the morning just naturally anyway- just have some good protein-rich stuff ready for your breakfast in the morning to get you over any hungry feelings and you'll be away again.

I have been bad this weekend too- had wine and chocolate - tomorrow am I am back on the atkins wagon!

pebbles77 · 09/05/2010 20:45

msboogie - how long til your sisters wedding? have u got your dress or waiting til the last possible moment?

how did meeting with cambridge counsellor go? what's their diet like? are you going to do that or stick with atkins?

here's to another week and hopefully some more weight loss

penona · 09/05/2010 21:08

I also had a bad weekend, managed to stick to about 50g carb per day, but couldn't resist the wine. And just indulged in some very dark chocolate which tasted fabulous. Will start again tomorrow, is reassuring to hear that about ketosis being easy to get back into. 2 weeks until hols, 4 lbs to go. Need to be disciplined!
