Starting New Atkins tomorrow

mrsboogie · 28/03/2010 20:28

I am starting the new Atkins diet tomorrow - it's a bit less full-on than the old Atkins in that you are not just supposed to eat bacon eggs and steak three times a day forever.

Have been trying to lose weight all year -I last three weeks, plateau and then give up. This time I have to stick to it as I am a bridesmaid at my sister's wedding in June. I have already had to tell her that I cannot wear a traditional bridesmaid type dress (I am 5 stone overweight and have a 48 inch boob measurement) but there is still time for me to look a bit less massive if I go full on from here in.

She is slim and has the most beautiful dress - I dread to think what I am going to look like in the photos.

Wish me luck (and will power - no more Friday night wine)!

I'm joining too. Started new atkins on Saturday and by Monday I felt so ill I didn't think I'd be able to carry on. But pleased to say that yesterday I woke up feeling much better, although my energy levels are still dipping at times but definitely improving.

Funny enough Pebbles it's fruit I'm craving too, woke up yesterday morning almost salavating at the thought of a peach!

Keep up the good work everyone and mrsboogie you're weight loss is a real inspiration!

mummymels · 14/04/2010 22:44

mrsboogie - 10lbs is brilliant. You must be feeling great. Go Lower is about £50 a month but if you say I recommended you, you can get a 10% discount.

Funny, I am also starting to miss fruit a bit too and I never thought I would say that! I am still eating a bit though as can have some berries on Go Lower so I do have some raspberries or strawberries most days so at least that is something.

mrsboogie · 14/04/2010 23:03

I don't crave anything really, oh except curry! Am trying to figure out how to make a low carb curry...

mummymels · 14/04/2010 23:30

Ooh I would also be interested in hearing if you discover a recipe for low carb curry!

pebbles77 · 14/04/2010 23:48

We r having friends for dinner on sat so tonight was chatting with dh about what we can cook and he's (he's the cook in the house) doing a chicken curry. he's in bed at mo but i'll find out tomorrow what he's doing and will get back to you. i'm pretty sure it's going to be tomato based.

cantitbedonenow - i to am feeling a lot better today. energy levels still not great - i'm doing a lot of fitness and am definitely struggling with it this week - however the "low carb flu" has definitely let me - thank goodness

how long are you all going to do induction for or r u playing it by ear. As I need to lose 2 stone i'm thinking about maybe continuing for a month before moving to next stage but not going to set a date on it but maybe rather a weight - a stone perhaps?

night night

mrsboogie · 15/04/2010 12:34

oh yes, a low carb curry would be the holy grail!!

I have done a bit of research on low carb websites and their version of low carb curry seems to consist of using stock and cream to make the sauce. Not likely to turn out much like the sort of curry I am used to making .

I am staying on induction for ages - I have four stone to lose so god only knows when I will come off it.

Can you have a tomato based curry on induction?

Have noticed weight loss slowing this week - the dreaded 3 week plateau - despite sticking rigidly to the rules. This is when I usually give up - but not this time because I know I could put what I have lost back on in 2 or 3 days eating carbs. So I am going to keep on keeping on.

Have also noticed that I don't lose any of I don't drink loads of water...

Can I join you. I'm starting the new Atkins tomorrow and have a minimum of 4 stone to lose!!! We're are going on holiday in January and I would like to be at least 3 dress sizes smaller than I am now.
I am a carb monster with pasta being my favourite meal base so the adjustment may be pretty difficult. However, aside from the holiday next year, we want another child and at my current weight getting pregnant is not ideal. Being the wrong side of 35 I think it's time I grasped the nettle and did something about it.

Canitbedone · 15/04/2010 17:29

Hi Pebbles, I normally exercise everyday and I did think about stopping during the induction phase but I've reduced it instead. Saying that my workout wasn't quite as exhausting this morning.

I've got about 16lb to shift, hopefully less than that now, will find out at the weigh in on saturday! And at the moment I can't think further than getting through these 2 weeks, so I'll tell you after that .

But I do have this fear that I'll gain it all again as soon as I start eating carbs as this way of eating is so different to anything I've done before. But what I do like is that I'm not constantly feeling the need to snack and although it's been tough on very little caffeine and nothing sweet what so ever, I'm not obsessing about food like I usually do on other diets.

Welcome picturethis, the more the merrier!

pebbles77 · 15/04/2010 19:41

Well done picture this. I am deffers noticing difference already with clothes and it's still first wk.

Totally agree about keep up the water intake if u want to lose as much weight as possible.

I'm definitely struggling with my energy levels re fitness but from everything I have read this should stop 2nd wk

I think our curry is tomato base. I'm not nr book at mo but I'm sure we r allowed toms in induction aren't we? Hubby going to cook fresh ones rather than tins. Certainly not my trusted chicken tikka masala that's for sure.

2 more days til I know how 1st wk has gone. A little nervous.

Mrsboogie - is the loss meant to increase again after 3rd wk or does it totally slow down now that body used to it?

GypsyMoth · 15/04/2010 19:57

how are you all doing this? is it book based or is there a website with rules to follow?

have lost 9 pounds now just low carbing my own way

Canitbedone · 15/04/2010 20:16

Well done TBB on your weight loss that's fantastic!

I found the All New Atkins Plan on the Daily Mail web site and have been following that but also read the "Thats it, I'm really low carbing this time" thread on Mumsnet which has been a real help.

mrsboogie · 15/04/2010 21:38

I'm reading the new Atkins book but to be honest I think you could get the info on the net.

pebble77 I wouldn't have expected the weight loss to slow down this soon but I am weighing myself far too often and really should stop! hopefully it will pick up again.

I am not sure if you can have many tomatoes on induction, but I am being as strict as I can.

I have 4+ stones to lose also and am the wrong side of 40 and have not yet totally abandoned the idea of one more baby. But there's no way I hell I can do it at this weight as I had Gestational Diabetes last time.

Well I'm day one into the programme. I had bacon and mushroom omlette (only used 1 mushroom) for breakfast, salmon and prawn salad for lunch and for dinner I'm making lamb kebabs with roasted mediterranean veg and salad. Started feeling a bit nibbly late afternoon so had a bit of cheese. I'm reading the book and dipping in and out as I go. Does anyone know if you can use passata or tomato puree in the induction phase?

GypsyMoth · 16/04/2010 19:12

i've just ruined everything and finished ds's fish fingers and chips!!!!!!!!!!!

why???

told dd to remove the rest...quickly!

PictureThis · 16/04/2010 19:16

Sounds like something I'd do. Get the washing up liquid ready next time. It's only a minor blip in the grand scheme of things so don't be too hard on yourself.

GypsyMoth · 16/04/2010 20:19

I think it's because eating patterns are erratic at the moment...... Dc still off school. Only had one meal today so far, roast chicken salad. And now a few leftovers, not much, but it annoyed me!

I'm still not hungry enough for dinner

pebbles77 · 19/04/2010 06:11

Well I weighed myself on sat end of wk 1 and .... 8lbs
Chuffed to bits
soooo happy
Can really notice a difference
I can start to feel my collar bones again!!!

Canitbedone - how did u do!

MrsBoogie. - good luck with weigh in today

Canitbedone · 19/04/2010 08:49

8lb pebbles! That's brilliant for the first week, well done.

I've decided not to weigh myself until the 2wks are up, I don't want to start obsessing with what the scales say, know what I'm like!

Although I wish I felt that wonderful euphoric feeling and vitality when you're in ketosis that I keep reading about. Still feel incredibly low on energy and although I feel sustained in the day, I'm waking up hungry in the night and ravenous first thing in the morning. Just hoping as time goes on it will improve.

Keep up the good work everybody!

mrsboogie · 19/04/2010 15:48

hello all

well done pebbles77 that is fab and very motivational I'm sure!

as for me, well I have stuck rigidly to induction but the weight loss has slowed right down - probably only lost about a pound in the last week. Its mad because I am having very few carbs and have not cheated. But I must keep on!

I have no euphoric feeling but also no problems with low energy - I just feel normal really.

oh well, must away, a boiled egg awaits...

OP posts:
pebbles77 · 19/04/2010 16:42

stick with it mrsboogie - i think all diets are the same in that you see the most weight loss in the first few weeks and then it just slows down and that's why we all give up before the first month is up!!!

apart from smelly breath (i'm not sure!!) adn those pee sticks (i haven't bought) how do you know when you're in ketosis. is this something people are in for whole of induction or just first few weeks?

Canitbedone · 19/04/2010 16:48

For the whole time you're in induction.

pebbles77 · 19/04/2010 17:31

do u think it's pointless buying the sticks if i'm losing weight?

Canitbedone · 19/04/2010 18:12

Definitely. Apparently it doesn't always show on the sticks anyway, especially if you're drinking a lot of water.

I don't think there's any doubt pebbles that you're in ketosis with that weigh loss!

mrsboogie · 19/04/2010 21:41

I'm thinking of buying the sticks just to make sure that I am not eating carbs behind my own back...

I think a lot of the weight lost in the first weeks is water weight.

OP posts:
pebbles77 · 19/04/2010 23:32

You know how it's water weight - if i'm drinking ENORMOUS amounts of water does that counter act and makes it more fat that i'm losing or does it make no difference and yes it's still mostly water?

I'm now going to ask a seriously seriously seriously embarrassing question. I was thinking about changing my name and then i thought ho hum who cares no one knows me... so here goes..... has anyone's discharge smelt worse since starting atkins? Mine has and I just wanted to see whether it was normal or something that i should perhaps keep an eye on (if that makes sense). Sorry TMI and hope I haven't put anyone off me

Thanks in advance
