Starting New Atkins tomorrow

mrsboogie · 28/03/2010 20:28

I am starting the new Atkins diet tomorrow - it's a bit less full-on than the old Atkins in that you are not just supposed to eat bacon eggs and steak three times a day forever.

Have been trying to lose weight all year -I last three weeks, plateau and then give up. This time I have to stick to it as I am a bridesmaid at my sister's wedding in June. I have already had to tell her that I cannot wear a traditional bridesmaid type dress (I am 5 stone overweight and have a 48 inch boob measurement) but there is still time for me to look a bit less massive if I go full on from here in.

She is slim and has the most beautiful dress - I dread to think what I am going to look like in the photos.

Wish me luck (and will power - no more Friday night wine)!

Hi Riven

How's your water drinking going? That makes a difference to me when I'm headachey. 8 x 250ml glasses of water per day minimum - other liquids don't count as part of this.

By the looks of what you've had today I think you're a bit short on veg, and probably haven't had enough lunch. The book says we're aiming (on induction) for 20 grams of carbs per day of which 12-15g should be made up of foundation veg. Have you had any cheese/butter etc today, either?

The book has just tons on pages on fat - I think you may be right on the body fat v dietry fat as one of the things you have to do when you reach your goal weight (ohpleaseohpleaseohplease) is to start eating more fat so you maintain your weight.

I cracked today and had a cup of tea with milk. I don't know who I was fooling but I just can't start the day without a brew! Just have to wait and see if it has a knock on effect tomorrow.

I wish I could stop weighing myself everyday too - no self control at all there

Canitbedone · 24/04/2010 15:20

3lb for me as well this week so 9lb down in total. Although I have a feeling that shifting the last 6lb is going to be hard work...

Good luck with the 'picking' Pebbles and enjoy the wedding.

Welcome Noobynoo!

was very naughty last night as I had my sister visiting and drank several glasses of wine and ate loads of peanuts

not going to weigh myself for a while...

riv, on su's thread someone linked to research into diet suitability. apparently low carb doesn't suit everyone. in fact from memory it was only about 6% of people who suited both low carb and low protein.

pebbles77 · 25/04/2010 10:59

oh my god, was sooooo good in the arvo - drank water and didn't have any canapes.

sat down for evening meal and the white wine just looked so cold and inviting - ended up getting hammered!!! was still good with the food and picked out the chicken but drank my bodyweight in alcohol

struggling today cos of the hangover - however fried eggs and bacon helped a little bit not feeling too depressed cos i was still good with the food, just the alcohol.

not going to weigh til next sat so i don't get depressed.

feeling strong

riven - i am a believer in some diets suit some people. i'm a definitely bad carb person and i know that's where my weight gain always is. so perhaps you may be a bad fat person (not you but what's bad for you if that makes sense!!!). well done for staying strong cos i do know how horrendous it is being so good and not seeing weight loss - i get that on ww.

trying to psych myself up to go for a run but head hurting too much so can't see that happening

happy sundays everyone

Riven I think the Atkins bars can stop weight loss. Some people can't handle the artificial sweetners, their body treats the polyols as sugar. So you have to count the total carbs not just the net carbs.

pebbles sounds like we have both been naughty - never mind - the important thing is to get back on the regime today.

Riven I have been wondering the same thing I have not cheated and have had no wine for 4 weeks (apart from last night) normally I would have had a couple of bottles over the weekend, and I would have thought that the lack of alcohol and cake and biccies and everything else junky would have knocked loads of weight off me without any faddy Atkins nonsense needing to be employed. I have no idea what the eff is going on.

bugger bugger bugger. Well it serves me right for weighing myself evey day- apparently I've gained 3lbs since yesterday

This is despite me eating bugger all, all weekend due to fight with DH. Which is a new one for me - normally I find respite with Cadburys but just wasn't hungry all weekend.

Back on plan today though..... sigh....

Tortington · 26/04/2010 08:34

how many carbs are you all on - all you people who aren't losing weight maybe you need to lower your carbs.

mrsboogie · 26/04/2010 11:24

hmmm.. well to be honest I am not measuring my carb intake - only estimating but a typical day would be

breakfast: boiled egg

snack: 8 smoked almonds

lunch: chicken or ham, maybe some lettuce, cucumber, half a tomato, another boiled egg, piece of cheese

snack - slices of ham or cheese

dinner: steak with fried onions or mushrooms or a decent sized salad, no dressing.

I think I if I ate any less carbs I would be on the Dukon diet.

Am in ketosis all the time , so my wee sticks tell me.

I'm thinking maybe I am having to much fat and am living off the dietary fat rather than body fat.

mrs boogie,i am thinking along same lines with the fat intake

i eat quite alot of different cheeses....cant be good can it? and cream too,in coffee as i always liked it 'milky'

is there a limit to how much cheese we should consume on this diet?

mrsboogie · 26/04/2010 12:08

yeah, I can't believe how many eggs we are going through at the moment - literally dozens of the bloody things.

I have to space my ommeletes out as I can't afford to get sick of them!

riven I think coconut milk has about 30g of carbs per tin. Creamed coconut blocks are lower overal in carbs (about 10g per half block)

stil probably too much if you wanted to stay below 20 g a day carbs

I made a cauliflower curry on sat and used creamed cococunt and some double cream,

cd try basing it on natural yoghurt also.

I still don't understand why the weight isn't falling off me from just cutting out all alcohol and biscuits etc and only eating 3 modest meals a day.
